And you can reflash a speed 3 for the same money people and blow the doors off the gti. remember a maxed out stock turbo gti is only as quick as a stage 1 speed 3 and stage 1 cobalt ss turbo. both cars have a lot more to go. but the gti is much higher quality, which is why it gets my vote as a daily.
If the GTI had the Speed3 motor than it would'nt be as a refined car, which is one thing the GTI is known for. It's a GT car, not really so much a sports car. I second the earlier said comment of simply go spend 5-600 USD to get a chip from APR and that will land the GTI where it really should have been from the factory and where more people expect it to be.

The Mazdaspeed Miata is a far and away more fun car with better durability if you're going to buy mazda. If you're simply looking for 260+HP in a 4 door, Evo or Sti are the way to go. Speed3's are not well built. At all. Enjoy your car, but you made a poor choice in engineering with that model.

@2011mazdaspeed3 It's almost like you haven't ever even been inside a new GTI. The interior of the GTI is MILES ahead of the 3, more comfortable, luxurious, and polished than the 3 by a long shot. It's more forgiving on rough roads, is more solid in the corners, and has a more refined ride all around. I'd love to take a GTI on a long road trip, the 3 would be torture. It's faster yes, but not by a ton, and the torque kicking in at lower RPMs on the GTI is great. The 3 torque steer is also awful.
I love my MS3...I have a 2012...i got my 0-60 time down a bit quicker than his (5.4 sec.) and the top speed is limited to 155mph and while I personally have not gone that fast I know it will do it...ive seen other people do it and I fully believe the car is capable of it...and I also believe it would go faster if it didn't have an electronic limiter...given unough flat, straight road...im thinking at least another 10-15mph...it will also shit on a wrx...I have done that...i only wish it was AWD.

ah...just chip the thing and your at 250hp. Just me, but visually, exterior and interior, the gti wins hands down. I've driven both and prefer the gti...especially chipped. The Mazada is quite capable for sure, but styling makes me go with the gti.....das auto over zoom zoom.
It matters about what you want. It's your preference. Either looks or speed you looking for. There's always a car for you. But I would deff go for the Mazda :) Still got respect for the GOLF

GTI has TSI, the TFSI goes in the Audi TT-S and Golf R and Audi S3. Not to be confused with the old FSI used in the MkV GTI. TSI chips to 250hp, TFSI chips to 300hp, and the FSI chips to around 240 I believe.

Right, that's why the Mazdaspeed3 has a massive issue with blown engines. They should be sold cheaper because replacing an engine is expensive.
But now that you mention it, there was a forum post about an issue with the new GTIs. Apparently one guy heard a bit too much wind noise. The dealer replaced the door seals for free while he was in for his free oil change and tire rotation.
old gti and old speed3 look WAY better than the new ones..... the GTI gets Toureg taillights? who thought of that? and the mazdas shape doesnt make it look as sporty or as fun to drive as the old mazda speed..

In response to "put a flash on the GTI and you will see what it is like to have the power of the Speed3 in the GTI", put a flash on the MS3 and watch the flashed GTI fall far behind again.
The US GTI has an electronically governed top speed, whereas the Speed3 has no limiter. I suppose you can look to the aftermarket for getting more power for the GTI, but I wouldn't want to mess with the warranty. I'd be happy with either car.
Gti's are nice cars, so are ms3's, Volkswagens are know for all the stupid stuff breaking at high miles, I love gti's but for long term ownership I would go with the ms3 just because Mazda is known for ultra reliable cars. Not to mention you get 63 more hp, and a consideredably quicker car for 5 grand less
Top speed 126 my ass. I've gotten my GTI MKV past 140 and it was still climbing quickly when I let off. The speed3 is faster I'll admit, but theres no way the GTI MK6 tops out at 126.
Who cares? They are both nice cars. Tune both of em and they can compete with one another pretty well. I think APR proved their MKVI platform tuned up is superior in a track environment than the Speed3 by winning race after race. Talk shit when the Speed3 starts winning races.

Assuming we're not all going to modify our cars to get 500 hp, the MS3 continues to be the undisputed king of cheap speed. At least in the US market. I know a lot of our European friends that post here would disagree. Especially that poor dude who claims that the VW Golf is "like a father" for him. They just need driver mods..

i think the gti is a better car then the MS3 in almost all ways, if the MS3 is faster its probably cuz of the fact that it only gets 18 mpg and with the way you'd wanna drive it u would b lucky 2 get 14 lol. also with the available dsg (tiptronic) trans u get the best of both worlds and im with you all cuz i doubt its top speed is only 126 so +1 for the GTI

first, DSG is way better than any 6 speed manual out there... second top speed of the gti is set to 150 mph but with a reflash from unitronic, better the stage 2 this car will produce 325+bhp and hit the 180 mph range, so yes is another technology diferent style and euro cars are better than any other japanese cars, this comparisson is wrong why with the GTI? is not the best from VW the best is the GTI R wich is 4 motion... then vw would be better right?...just saying

Spend 600 bucks on an APR ECU and that right there is way more power than the Mazda.
The 2.0TFSI is WAY under-tuned from VW, 260-270 hp is really where it should be and all it needs is an ECU to do this.

GTI has TSI, the TFSI goes in the Audi TT-S and Golf R and Audi S3. Not to be confused with the old FSI used in the MkV GTI. TSI chips to 250hp, TFSI chips to 300hp, and the FSI chips to around 240 I believe.

Right, that's why the Mazdaspeed3 has a massive issue with blown engines. They should be sold cheaper because replacing an engine is expensive.
But now that you mention it, there was a forum post about an issue with the new GTIs. Apparently one guy heard a bit too much wind noise. The dealer replaced the door seals for free while he was in for his free oil change and tire rotation.

The US GTI has an electronically governed top speed, whereas the Speed3 has no limiter. I suppose you can look to the aftermarket for getting more power for the GTI, but I wouldn't want to mess with the warranty. I'd be happy with either car.

Gti's are nice cars, so are ms3's, Volkswagens are know for all the stupid stuff breaking at high miles, I love gti's but for long term ownership I would go with the ms3 just because Mazda is known for ultra reliable cars. Not to mention you get 63 more hp, and a consideredably quicker car for 5 grand less

At the very end or very beginning of any given year when the new model year of mazdas are coming out they will take up to 5k off these mazdaspeed3s.
My only problem with this car is that if you pause the vid at 1:16 it looks like a minivan, which is kind of a whack design

Who cares? They are both nice cars. Tune both of em and they can compete with one another pretty well. I think APR proved their MKVI platform tuned up is superior in a track environment than the Speed3 by winning race after race. Talk shit when the Speed3 starts winning races.

LOL, i just got my speed3. I've driven multiple VWs Golfs, Gtis, Jettas.. Vr6s, 2.0Ts.. Their comfortability doesnt even compare to Mazdas awseom bucket seats and roomy interior. Not to mention the extreme HP advantage on the speed3 and a wayyyyyy smoother clutch and transmission. Vws are nice, but Mazdas got this one. Sorry kids.
