Elvis did have something in his early days. But as someone who grew up in the 50's and 60's, I always thought that if Elvis was the "king," then Ray Charles must have been God.
This totally puts the lie to the ignorant pontifications of assholes like Bono who insist that "before Elvis, there was nothing". If he's any example then you could just as easily say there was nothing after Elvis.
