there are those who will tell you not to quit cold turkey. agreed, it is better to step down. but that might not be possible if your doc has cut you off. getting a bar here and there is one thing. getting a steady supply to detox on is another, especially when you mind is shot as yours will be for a few weeks. Dude I know how u feel. Keep taking benzos but drop 0.5 mg a day. Also drink a fair amount of alcohol. When u are down to 2mg...just spread out your doses by a day apart. youll probably have to take them forever though. I do.
@findittobeamusing stop being silly alcohol totally destroys the withdrawl process as it creates an additional influx of benzo in the brain thus making the user think they have had twice as much then when the alcohol wears off it causes anxiety therefore tempting the use to increase benzo dose or to simply drink more alcohol which will just carry on this vicous circle, I used to think same at one point but trust me as hard as it is stay clear of alcohol when withdrawing from benzos!
I come off benzos after 8months cold turkey... I nearly died. Without doubt the single worse thing that could ever happen to a human being. They should be illegal. You should go to a detox center. It will help u get through the hell and then u won't have to worry because you will be under medical care. Until u feel normal again.
I took 14 months to taper off 2 mg and even that was very very crazy. But it had to be done, Now I'm 2 years free of that poison, and it is SO worth it.
Taper slowly and steadily, and don't up-dose and down-dose. Be extremely patient. Avoid ALL other sedatives, including alcohol.
And please find a GOOD doctor about this. Benzo withdrawal is hell, i know.
But you can get free of them. And it's so wonderful, but takes much time and patience. Good luck, brother, don't give up, you will make it.

I hear Xanax is harder to get off also a benzo like valium but yes it is pretty addictive and has some bad side effects i don't think valium could really cause those kind of withdrawal symtoms you were talking about that's more of Opiates like oxycontin and morphine they will give anyone the chills that can even happen as a side effect of taking it

Anwyays, little by little, and i mean very little by little, I reduced the dosages...from 10mg daily, to 9...then to eight, down to 7. you get the idea. now, what got me hysterical was the brain zaps that i experienced throughout this time, the dizziness, losing my balance...you will get better
Good wake up call. I'm just getting into benzo's along with taking my prescription opiates. I have such a high tolerance for opiates but with a little bit of benzo's especially xanax, I feel so comfortable and so apathetic about everything in life and it's just great. I suffered a suicide attempt that has pretty much left me sort of crippled along with chronic pain for life. Percocet, Norco's, Vicodin, Xanax, and Trazodone are miracle workers. I don't feel like crap and I feel like I can live.
I am in a not so good place. Stopping very high levels of oxycontin/codone, PF, celebrex, lyrica, xanax and alodorm. Feeling the pain. Lost 3mths to re-tollerating to xanax and alodorm last year (probably didn't help to be doing it at home and with nitraz for help - damn it - adverse reactions with that one). Glad to hear the opiates are short lived withdrawal as I know the hell I'm up for a little more. Ugh. And again,,, doing this at home. The pain specialist NEEDS to know it's not meds :(
I have been agoraphobic and have had severe panic attacks for 5 years , i am on 1.5 mg klonopin a day my dr will not take me off of them due to the fact i have been on them so long, for your dr to stop you cold turkey is a bunch of shit and you should seek a lawyer to see what you can do. DR'S know the risks of stopping a benzo cold turkey , i have been watching videos all night , just hang in there go back to your dr see what they say maybe they can start you on a low dose to ween off.

I've been a HEAVY user of heroin and xanax for the last few years, detoxed off heroin MANY times and just recently kicked it for the final time. Im now getting off xanax (10-15mg a day) and i can tell you XANAX WITHDRAWAL IS A MILLION TIMES WORSE!!! It doesnt even compare. Shouldn't have stopped the medication without reducing the dosage. The only reason I stopped is because I felt comfortable enough to stop with minimum pain and discomfort .....but then again everyone reacts different to different medications.
Wow 15 mg's isn't that bad of a withdrawal from diazepam for most people but it seems as if your having a heavier reaction to the drug withdrawal ..... I stopped at 30 mg a day and was a bit irritable but that was it along with trouble sleeping...... The best advice I can give you is tell you doctor about your severe symptoms and tell him to gradually reduce your dosage until you feel comfortable enough to stop and get a feel on how your body will feel while stopping at that dosage..... I have no experience with heroin or such, but i've done every opioide painkiller you can name. Even Fentanyl (x100 morphine, more potent than heroin) and the withdrawals aint even close to Xanax. Heroin withdrawal by itself cant kill, Xanax withdrawal can. Perioid.

I just finally finished my detox which took months and months!! It was a battle but i now do not take any benzo's what so ever! I actually was shocked i was able to quit the last 0.5mg so easy considering. I still have them on hand for sleepless nights or break thru anxiety but i am no longer dependent on them and I only need a very small amount. Now I am trying to quit Suboxone which is ruining my energy levels and sex drive! (Anything but that! lol) The constant need for em is a pain also!
I went thru exactly what this guy did but not as long. I quit cold turkey from 3-4mgs of Xanax which is worse. This is shortly after quitting oxycodone (not as bad). I tried to quit both together but i almost lost my mind literally! Well cold turkey was insane! I started twitching, seeing strange bright lights and my senses were heightened and painful. I was psychotic and violent and literally hallucinating! And i am a nice guy. I didn't sleep one bit! It was insane I felt like death!
As for this, I recommend a sativa/indica mix, or a light sativa-based cannabis. I would love to help anyone in this predicament, smoke a very small amount, or vaproize or eat a very small amount. it will make your symptoms go away by 30-60%, I promise. I had some withdrawals, pretty bad, for the past week and a half, maybe longer, and the cannabis made it so I barely felt it. It was amazing, got rid of much of my stomach problems.

Hi dude. I've never been addicted to benzos but my friend is. You MUST detox in the care of professionals. All of what you're describing is NORMAL. Very normal. TERRIBLE. But normal. These are all textbook symptoms of benzo withdrawl. Please, if you're still on the drugs, make sure you're in a doctor's care for the detox and, as you say, wean off gradually. And i promise the physical withdrawl will go away. And the mental stuff WILL get better over time :)
@groovylocks when you're feeling depressed, angry, afraid, etc.. make sure you remind yourself that it's not real. It's a sign of withdrawl. Your brain isn't dealing with things so well so it's tricking you into thinking things are all doom and gloom. this isn't real and only chemical. And it WILL pass. But it takes some time. Don't try to do too much at once during that stage. Focus on staying calm, comfortable and getting better. You will :)
hey mate, i feel ya.Just remember mind over matter. I kicked heroin n that was 10 times harder (at least) than quitting a 6mg xanax a day habbit. Im not advocating illegal drugs but when ur having withdrawals or anxiety n feel like shit, a couple puffs of weed really helps u calm down, feel better, and especially helps you get some sleep. Try to have a good diet and take lots of vitamins. Ibuprofen may help.Thats all I can think of other than rehab. You can do it! Good luck and God bless.
@deezlesteezle benzo withdrawl is dangerous and possibly life threatening. Heroin withdrawl is NOT. Both suck. I totally agree that weed helps with these things. But to get off of benzos you MUST be under a doctor's care during the detox stage. DO NOT lock yourself in a room for the duration. You could die.
@groovylocks are u serious? have u been through either? kickin smack back in the day i lost 25 pounds in a month (160 to 135), couldnt eat, constant vomitting, dysentary like symptoms... pain throughtout my whole body, incredibly restless limbs, NO sleep for at least 72 hours, feelt like bugs crawlin under skin, spine felt like it was spring loaded or something, cant describe it. I did xanax, 6mg a day for years, and kicked that with no withdrawals other than lack of sleep and irritability...

dont know if your still suffering but I feel that stopping anything just abruptly is no way to deal with addiction. I hate to say this but there are pharmacy overseas that sell via internet all kinds of pills and friends of mine have bought from them and received the medicine without prescription. So I would go online and find a pharmacy in like south africa or where ever and buy valum and slowly ween yourself off. Good luck

My symptoms were short-lived and never got bad enough to where I had to put on a tapering schedule. But they said that if I got worse they would help me with that. They were wonderful. They had some fantastic success stories of people who had been on high doses of multiple benzos and recovered slowly by tapering or titrating. The Benzo Buddies website is awesome. I was on a low dose for a couple of months so my withdrawal was just some discomfort for a few days. I was very frightened though. They were so comforting and friendly even though they were way worse off than I was. One day I talked in the chat room for hours with a woman in Pennsylvania. She was snowed in and so was baking bread for her church. It was great. They were always asking me how I was feeling and saying everything was going to be okay.
Go to the website Benzo Buddies. They're an amazing group that help each other taper off of benzos. Some people are on several benzos at once but they have moderators who are very good at designing safe tapering schedules for people to get off these drugs. It will take several months but it won't be as painful as cold turkey and you'll have lots of support. The people over there are awesome and very helpful to each other Now that I'm off ativan, I actually miss them. They saved me.

Withdrawls can potentially take years to finish, depending on how long one has been on these. At some point, the abuse can cause permenent damage. Slow your doses down as most people have been saying. Life having to rely on medication to live is no life at all. I know this first hand. It really is a long dark road, one that you can make it out of, but a difficult trip nonetheless.
By going from 15 mgs of valium to 0 mgs per day in a short period of time, or what is known as "cold turkey" is a ridiculous move on your part. You are setting yourself up for seizures, and if your unlucky, you will die as the result of seizures. Get help and goto a medical supervised detoxification system, and the nurses their will make sure you don't die.

Ok, here goes. I was on Xanax 3 mgs a day for 2 yrs. I reduced my dosage by .25 a week. I am now 10 COMPLETELY off. I felt a little anxiety, some odd electrical like sensations, and some dizziness. But its almost 100% gone now. I have gone off before without tapering and it was hell. But, you have to be disciplined and ween slowly. I am proof you can do it. I am also a very addictive personality and I DID IT. My advice is real. Please reduce slow and get off.

there are those who will tell you not to quit cold turkey. agreed, it is better to step down. but that might not be possible if your doc has cut you off. getting a bar here and there is one thing. getting a steady supply to detox on is another, especially when you mind is shot as yours will be for a few weeks. I took 14 months to taper off 2 mg and even that was very very crazy. But it had to be done, Now I'm 2 years free of that poison, and it is SO worth it.
Taper slowly and steadily, and don't up-dose and down-dose. Be extremely patient. Avoid ALL other sedatives, including alcohol.
And please find a GOOD doctor about this. Benzo withdrawal is hell, i know.
But you can get free of them. And it's so wonderful, but takes much time and patience. Good luck, brother, don't give up, you will make it.

I did not sleep, my body crawled wit electric fleas, that alcoholics go thru, an made my skin burn for months. I do have lupus too, so it made it all so severe, I couldnt take it./ I begged t doctor to slow it down an she didnt give a shite, so tried to come off em on my own. to say the least, it did not work. Good wake up call. I'm just getting into benzo's along with taking my prescription opiates. I have such a high tolerance for opiates but with a little bit of benzo's especially xanax, I feel so comfortable and so apathetic about everything in life and it's just great. I suffered a suicide attempt that has pretty much left me sort of crippled along with chronic pain for life. Percocet, Norco's, Vicodin, Xanax, and Trazodone are miracle workers. I am in a not so good place. Stopping very high levels of oxycontin/codone, PF, celebrex, lyrica, xanax and alodorm. Feeling the pain. Lost 3mths to re-tollerating to xanax and alodorm last year (probably didn't help to be doing it at home and with nitraz for help - damn it - adverse reactions with that one). Shouldn't have stopped the medication without reducing the dosage. The only reason I stopped is because I felt comfortable enough to stop with minimum pain and discomfort .....but then again everyone reacts different to different medications.

Wow 15 mg's isn't that bad of a withdrawal from diazepam for most people but it seems as if your having a heavier reaction to the drug withdrawal ..... I stopped at 30 mg a day and was a bit irritable but that was it along with trouble sleeping...... The best advice I can give you is tell you doctor about your severe symptoms and tell him to gradually reduce your dosage until you feel comfortable enough to stop and get a feel on how your body will feel while stopping at that dosage..... I have had the exact experience. I went through hell. My doctor helped me to slowly decrease the dose. It hurts a lot at first but with a little time it WILL get better. You have my full sympathy and support.

I have no experience with heroin or such, but i've done every opioide painkiller you can name. Even Fentanyl (x100 morphine, more potent than heroin) and the withdrawals aint even close to Xanax. Heroin withdrawal by itself cant kill, Xanax withdrawal can. Perioid.

I just finally finished my detox which took months and months!! It was a battle but i now do not take any benzo's what so ever! I actually was shocked i was able to quit the last 0.5mg so easy considering. I still have them on hand for sleepless nights or break thru anxiety but i am no longer dependent on them and I only need a very small amount. Now I am trying to quit Suboxone which is ruining my energy levels and sex drive! (Anything but that! lol) The constant need for em is a pain also!

I went thru exactly what this guy did but not as long. I quit cold turkey from 3-4mgs of Xanax which is worse. This is shortly after quitting oxycodone (not as bad). I tried to quit both together but i almost lost my mind literally! Well cold turkey was insane! I started twitching, seeing strange bright lights and my senses were heightened and painful. I was psychotic and violent and literally hallucinating! And i am a nice guy. I didn't sleep one bit! It was insane I felt like death!

As for this, I recommend a sativa/indica mix, or a light sativa-based cannabis. I would love to help anyone in this predicament, smoke a very small amount, or vaproize or eat a very small amount. it will make your symptoms go away by 30-60%, I promise. I had some withdrawals, pretty bad, for the past week and a half, maybe longer, and the cannabis made it so I barely felt it. It was amazing, got rid of much of my stomach problems.

@angelwithbenthalo, one time I w ent through oxycontin, methadone, and clonazepam+xanax withdrawals, all at once (and crystal meth withdrawals, I only did it for 2 weeks straight, then quit, so, like 10-13 times in a row, my first time, lol, and never again). I can tell you, it was beyond anything I ever felt before. I was hallucinating and tried to kill myself several times. Methadone goes on for 6 weeks. Now I am on 2mg methadone, 30 mg norco and 30mg methadone a day, Ismoke medicinal cananbis

Hi dude. I've never been addicted to benzos but my friend is. You MUST detox in the care of professionals. All of what you're describing is NORMAL. Very normal. TERRIBLE. But normal. These are all textbook symptoms of benzo withdrawl. Please, if you're still on the drugs, make sure you're in a doctor's care for the detox and, as you say, wean off gradually. And i promise the physical withdrawl will go away. And the mental stuff WILL get better over time :)

@groovylocks when you're feeling depressed, angry, afraid, etc.. make sure you remind yourself that it's not real. It's a sign of withdrawl. Your brain isn't dealing with things so well so it's tricking you into thinking things are all doom and gloom. this isn't real and only chemical. And it WILL pass. But it takes some time. Don't try to do too much at once during that stage. Focus on staying calm, comfortable and getting better. You will :)

hey mate, i feel ya.Just remember mind over matter. I kicked heroin n that was 10 times harder (at least) than quitting a 6mg xanax a day habbit. Im not advocating illegal drugs but when ur having withdrawals or anxiety n feel like shit, a couple puffs of weed really helps u calm down, feel better, and especially helps you get some sleep. Try to have a good diet and take lots of vitamins. Ibuprofen may help.Thats all I can think of other than rehab. You can do it! Good luck and God bless.

@deezlesteezle benzo withdrawl is dangerous and possibly life threatening. Heroin withdrawl is NOT. Both suck. I totally agree that weed helps with these things. But to get off of benzos you MUST be under a doctor's care during the detox stage. DO NOT lock yourself in a room for the duration. You could die.

@groovylocks are u serious? have u been through either? kickin smack back in the day i lost 25 pounds in a month (160 to 135), couldnt eat, constant vomitting, dysentary like symptoms... pain throughtout my whole body, incredibly restless limbs, NO sleep for at least 72 hours, feelt like bugs crawlin under skin, spine felt like it was spring loaded or something, cant describe it. I did xanax, 6mg a day for years, and kicked that with no withdrawals other than lack of sleep and irritability...

I had a very bad problem with opium after I started growing poppies. I smoked and ate it everday for months, you know what, I gradually stopped and kicked it, fucking EASY.
I was addicted to xanax and klonopin for over 2 years, I got to the point where if I stopped, I had seizures, and withdrawal symptoms A MILLION TIMES worse then opiate withdrawals. The protracted withfdrawals lasted for years asshole.

Benzo withdrawals nearly killed me, If I didn't have them, I had intense fucking seizures, the withdrawals put me through a unbelievable amount of psychological and physical torture that lasted WAY TO FUCKING LONG.
Im not saying opiate withdrawals aren't horrible, but worse then benzos? No fucking way, not even.

dont know if your still suffering but I feel that stopping anything just abruptly is no way to deal with addiction. I hate to say this but there are pharmacy overseas that sell via internet all kinds of pills and friends of mine have bought from them and received the medicine without prescription. So I would go online and find a pharmacy in like south africa or where ever and buy valum and slowly ween yourself off. Good luck

i took 6 mg of klonopin which is equal to 120 mgs of diazapam for 5 years,after taking diazapam 30 mgs a day for 5 years.i quit cold turkey and it sucked bad for a couple of months,the worse withdrawel symptoms immaganable but i got through it and you can too.benzodiazapin will ruin your life if you continue to take it.the quality of life is far more better without it.trust me.again it will probably suck for months but there is light at the end of this tunnel only if you quit.

My symptoms were short-lived and never got bad enough to where I had to put on a tapering schedule. But they said that if I got worse they would help me with that. They were wonderful. They had some fantastic success stories of people who had been on high doses of multiple benzos and recovered slowly by tapering or titrating. Once they got healthy they became moderators to help other people with their recovery. They were great people. They saved me from ever trying that stuff again.

The Benzo Buddies website is awesome. I was on a low dose for a couple of months so my withdrawal was just some discomfort for a few days. I was very frightened though. They were so comforting and friendly even though they were way worse off than I was. One day I talked in the chat room for hours with a woman in Pennsylvania. She was snowed in and so was baking bread for her church. It was great. They were always asking me how I was feeling and saying everything was going to be okay.

Go to the website Benzo Buddies. They're an amazing group that help each other taper off of benzos. Some people are on several benzos at once but they have moderators who are very good at designing safe tapering schedules for people to get off these drugs. It will take several months but it won't be as painful as cold turkey and you'll have lots of support. The people over there are awesome and very helpful to each other Now that I'm off ativan, I actually miss them. They saved me.

This is probably not going to help you get off them but i have over 700 10mg diazepam tabs if you can't handle the withdrawls which you can have.,.there no good to me anymore as i am over that codiene and diazepam Addiction due to will power that i thought i did not have..But when you get over them physical withdrawals..you have your life again..Best feeling i have ever had in my life to be free of that garbageYou can get there that i promise

Withdrawls can potentially take years to finish, depending on how long one has been on these. At some point, the abuse can cause permenent damage. Slow your doses down as most people have been saying. Life having to rely on medication to live is no life at all. I know this first hand. It really is a long dark road, one that you can make it out of, but a difficult trip nonetheless.

By going from 15 mgs of valium to 0 mgs per day in a short period of time, or what is known as "cold turkey" is a ridiculous move on your part. You are setting yourself up for seizures, and if your unlucky, you will die as the result of seizures. Get help and goto a medical supervised detoxification system, and the nurses their will make sure you don't die.

your doctor should not have stopped your medication like that. always taper down VERY SLOWLY over a long period of time to avoid the horrors of benzo withdrawls. i switched from xanax to valium and tapered down over 3 months. it was hard but i cant imagine the pain of stopping abruptly.

Hi mate i have used all benzo for 4 years. my story is to long to explain but if you want to chat trevor69@westnet.com.au i main used Xanax and valium. i newly killed myself 4 times from car crashs to blowning my shed up with me in it. i spent 5 weeks in the burns unit all because i was careless on benzo. i havent had any for 5 weeks and i still fell sick i the mornings. then the methadone kicks in and i get alittle better. its like the withdrawl will never end.

Ok, here goes. I was on Xanax 3 mgs a day for 2 yrs. I reduced my dosage by .25 a week. I am now 10 COMPLETELY off. I felt a little anxiety, some odd electrical like sensations, and some dizziness. But its almost 100% gone now. I have gone off before without tapering and it was hell. But, you have to be disciplined and ween slowly. I am proof you can do it. I am also a very addictive personality and I DID IT. My advice is real. Please reduce slow and get off.

I had to use Benzodiazepine for 6 month, 1,5 Milligrams daily - since 10 weeks i am away from this "hellstuff", its a hard way, very hard. Try to reduce very slowly, keep working hard and you will come back to life. Best wishes from Germany,

Im able to use 2mg only as needed...no withdrawals & Ive been on it for shakes from GAD for 2 years. I tried without it for a few days & nadda. My effexor assists but isnt enough. I upped the effexor from 75 to 104.5mg & was too hyper. Consider effexor, non-addictive & life saving. You may have a chemical imbalance like me.

Get off any controlled substance! Your body is detoxifying itself and this is why you feel this way. Taper off slowly! It will take some time but please do not go back to the pharmaceutical drugs. Go to a good health food store and buy some melatonin or valarian drops to help you sleep. You can do this Ok ?
