  • I'm 22 and I find myself with more of this music in my car then anything else....wish I was around back when it was new....my friends call me "the old man" but I'd take this over Black Eyed Pea's or Lady GaGa anyday....

  • @PsychoNetsfan05 You da man! I was lucky enough to have been in my 20's when this was new and fresh. The golden age of music.

  • He is so amazing, love this video! He sings for his fans from his heart, truly brilliant

    and wonderful man!

  • Todd has a great voice.

  • todd rules

  • One of my favorite songs ever and brings back memories of first girlfriends & breakups years ago. Very nice video in a fairly small setting and it's cool how Todd constantly gives group hand hugs to everyone.Something/Anything has always been one of my favorite albums and i was always amazed he played about every instrument and did all the vocals. The 'Runt' lives forever!

  • gotta love that base line

  • NEWSY you MF like todd you had your moment in the sun in 1973 . Its 20010 these days you rystal methe taker. Get a life. TOMK

  • In 1975 Todd Rundgren was the most famous singer songwriter in the USA.

He was bigger than Elvis, Michael Jackson; in fact anyone.

  • i bet todd wishes those days were back

  • This song has meaning and feeling! Those were the good old days.

Today's so called "music" is trash!

  • I really love this BASS LINE!

  • Easily his best SONG ever/ Hes a pale shadow of hs former self but at least he had his moment in 1973. TomKes doo wop/rocknroll historian

  • @tomkes100

    hahahaha "had his moment"???

    AS IF!

Todd can still kick major A@@ssss anytime anywhere!

you make me laugh so hard.

  • Todd is truly an awesome person. Never does he refuse to play any song that the audience requests. His live performances are filled with energy!

  • todds the beast

  • Great tune and video - recorded in Cleveland Ohio at the Agora Ballroom for a WMMS Coffeebreak Concert - these were free concerts that the radio station promoted - good times..

  • Yezzzzz! Baby-- Hot Video

  • he lokks great here in 73 (not saying much) and he had drawing power but hes still to this day in a frigging timewarp. he hasnt matured sadly. thats nt to say I LOVE THIS SONG. its immortal and for that i salute him. TOMKES

  • Look how he treats his fans. Like people.

  • @slidenote you got that right my friend. Another artist who does the same is Ted Nugent. I've got a great playlist of Todd on my channel.

  • @slidenote on a side note, that's the most exquisite comment perhaps ever posted.

  • Great performance, man has vision and talent. I am glad he still performs. I do think his voice is a good bit deeper these days, but still sounds great

  • Actually the Isley Brothers also covered "Fire and Rain" "Love the One Your With" "Summer Brezze" and a host of other soft rock tunes on a album title "Giving It Back"

  • it sounds better this way , without the sax !

  • Monster hit Hello Its Me from 73. I dont care for Todd as he is now but in his prime he wasa giant. this doo wop/rocknroll historian knows great music when he hears it. he HAD charisma. but still this song is his gift to the world. Thanks Todd. TOMK

  • What? his voice has improved with age. Like a fine wine.

  • Hello All..Do anyone know who sang this song 1st? The Isleys Brothers or Ted Rundgren

  • Todd!!! he wrote it in high school. I believe it is the first song he ever wrote. The first recording of it is on his Nazz album, then he rerecorded it on Something Anything

Find the album and listen to the whole thing!

  • Rundgren recorded in first in 1968. The Isley Brothers made a cover track of it on their "Live It Up" album in 1974.

  • tedd

  • i watched this vid at least a hundred times since i discovered it...i guess it's the best version of this song, the original is probably a little too smooth for my taste. so, can anyone tell me if i can find this version on some record or bootleg please? thank you and ciao from italia :)

    e.

  • Rundgren came out with an album called "Back to the Bars" that you could probably get on the net somewhere, but i hear its a lot more expensive than albums usually are. And yeah, i pretty much am addicted to this song too, lol

  • Me too!!!!! Ted.....LOL

  • @bryanlynne: I know right! The bass line is so sexy and Tod's voice is the icing on the awesome cake that is this song.

  • I find this video of Todd sexy, he seems relaxed and his facial expressions are great.

  • @bryanlynne : Couldn't agree more!

  • this version is on his live album, back to the bars-its on itunes

  • This guy is one of the few really talented people in music today. With over 30 albums to his credit, and still producing, this guy makes any other star look like a first grader. The man is brilliant. I have been listening to him for years and I love the music he makes.

  • One of the most talented musicians/songwriters that ever lived. If you're not familiar with his stuff, do yourself a favor and pick up a greatest hits CD (or his latest Arena) and you will be very pleasantly surprised.

  • Hes soo sexxyyyy.. I would be with him even now and Im only 32 :)...

  • .......wanna get with someone half your age?

  • In a past life we were married, I adore this man.

  • he is so beautiful

  • Jeez...My sister and ole' man hate this song as to my replaying it so many times!! Yeah!! I've already played twice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • I thought he was very sexy and handsome when he was this age myself. Cant really say the same thing now that he is older, but then again i am older too and people probably say the same thing about me!

  • Angela I was just thinking what a great face the kid had and I wished I looked like that .lol

  • Hey that was a nice thing to say about all of us "old people" I'm only "old" when it comes to music because my brother and aunts and uncles are old!!! But you can still appreciate wonderful music Aye?

  • Oh fuck ! I just played this again! I can't get enough of this song! Everybody in this household hates him though! The dogs and cat know the words!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • This is from one of the original Cleveland Agora performances recorded for "Back to the Bars." This performance was simulcast on TV and WMMS 100.7 one Saturday night in '78-'79. I am looking forward to the opening night of AWATS in Akron

  • This is of course awesome. I wouldn't mind kicking the nuts of the fag that grabbed the microphone at 3:40 even today.

  • I saw this video at Penn State on VH1 in 1987!!!!!

  • Todd wrote this song. it is best sung by him,

  • my little girl says hi, and happy61B-day!

  • Where & when is this from???

  • This song was originally written in the late 60's when Todd was with a band called Nazz 1967'-69', however, he later produced a slightly different version in 1972 which is what you are listening to here. I'm guessing this particular performance was around 1978.

  • Cool - Thanx! In '78 I was 17 running-around w/a bunch of guitar players. We were all 'into Jimi,' and Ritchie, and Jimmy, and then Randy, not so much EVH though... One dude (don't remember his name anymore) was very heavily 'into Todd' & played him note-for-note! My friend JJ played Jimi note-for-note & LOVES Zappa! We jammed for years - SICK Good! Lost track of all those guys over the years...

  • I'm so jelous of my dad's / ur guys music era... i wish I was around in the old days

  • God, I just LOVE the first Nazz album!!!

  • I'm way jelous of your guys music era....

  • Great song! ♫♫♫♫♫

  • That's when music was MUSIC!!!!! I'm loving this!

  • @aapoin He's still a great live act, just saw him in L.A. three months ago.

  • This is pure unadulterated good music...good feeling, great message.

  • a cable jockey? man thats indulgent

  • Very mellow and just beautiful..............

  • It's one of his most popular songs, maybe he's sick of singing it now... but it will always be my favorite song. And I think he does it fabulously.

  • This band had a lot of substance, unlike the hollow soul of today's sound. rap, techno, plastic rock 'n roll.

  • 0:39 the drummer looks bored XD

  • He sings like me--Hello its Autoteck!

  • Ahah TODD RUNGREEEEENN !

  • Euh... ça va hein XD

  • Hein hmmm...

  • Bon tu comptes venir quand sale jeune ? I'm waiting for you.

  • Its one of those songs that when you hear it, you can't get it out of your head. I've always loved playing drums to this song, it's actually got an interesting beat. As for the way it is performed in this particular piece, although it is a confused heartning ballad, it also can be uplifting, and to see Todd have a connection with the audience is great.

  • Todd is sick & tired of this song! He refused to play it on Letterman, calling it "A certain song"

Something/Anything 1972 Bearsville, Is outstanding. A landmark in multi-instrumentalist recording. Sides 1-2-3 all instruments and voices tracked by Rundgren. The greatest American Pop/Rock/Soul writer & vocalist of our time. A visionary living legend. Compared often with the late Frank Zappa for musical prowless. Todd Rundgren is the most under-appreciated recording artist & performer alive ~

  • Well I love this song, I got into his music about 12 years ago, when I started to enjoy my now love of 70's music (I'm 24 now) and this was one of the first songs I remember loving along with Starbuck's "Moonlight Feels Right". Thanks for posting.

  • This video ruins my whole way of looking at this song. I don't think it should have ever been sung like this. It's not a peppy rock song, it's an almost-lullaby love song. I guess I still like the song. I will always like the recorded version.

  • Just watched the damn thing AGAIN! Still not sick of it! Sent it to my daughter!

  • What a quality guy!

  • the best of the Seventies and today I just HOPE we can be free in or world for a long time.

This song is more luscious than Ben and Jerry's!

    XOXO, Jane

  • I always loved this live performance on back to the bars better than the studio version. A real treat seeing a live performance of that same track. Never knew it was out there.

Excellent live performance. He does not hack up a good recorded song he actually performs it and makes it better.

  • he has big teefers

  • he is not a fairy! dumb ass ! god you must must be a really un comfortable person with your sex ! in other words you must have a small penis ! this guy was so cool !

  • I finally figured out who he reminds me of! Yellow Dancer from Robotech: The Next Generation! Or for you purists, Genesis Climber Mospeada.

  • @GODCONVOYPRIME

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha, I know who you're talking about. XDDD Actually, Michael Bradley has a pretty nice voice himself. Don't really know him outside of the Robotech album, though.

  • Jeez! I'm still sick! Not sick of this!

  • wonderful todd

  • Obviously you never met him, he's anything but "a fairy"

  • that was just seventies style, he dated Liv Tylers mom and is happily married now:)

  • Nothing like old things to make one feel "old" But I love this! I'll be young forrever!

  • I searched for Todd singing with Stevie Nicks to this song but couldn't find one on You Tube! Amazing story Todd Rundgren!

Great artist and talent then he ends up with one of the Greatest Playmates Ever!

    Ms.Bebe Beull.Steven Tyler of Aerosmith

was supposed to be out of line so Ms. Beull selected Todd. Todd even accepted Bebe's daughter! Or so the story goes...

  • Todd should be recognized as a brilliant writer/songwriter.

  • God. He is a genius.

  • LOL There's something very wacky about this performance...not quite sure what it is. The whole thing is just odd. Having said that, I love Mr. Rundgren's voice. Anyone that can sing like this live has a true gift. He sings the hell out of that modulation at 2:43. And when the that harmony kicks in at 2:56 its so sweet. I love this live performance.

  • I love this so much I've bookmarked it! You're right; the modulation is awesome, but I just love the active bass line. If you just listen to the bass, it's just too cool. I grew up with this stuff...wonder how many people think its a shame these types of songs aren't being written anymore????

  • he's standing there like a musician and not like a rockstar. it could have been your someone of your class at a school party.

i wonder if he's truly authentic here, i guess that's the odd thing about it, it must have something to do with the fact he's doing so little effort, his attitude is so loose, like he doesn't care at all, but he's singing very very good.

  • Todd is such an excellent vocalist. I have always liked his music.

  • Todd is gorgeous in this and very Daryl Hallish. Love the ending improv.

  • he's so chill. i wish there were more musicians like him around today

  • Todd is a grandfather now. I think that he is 60 years old. He is the same age as my father. He looks so cute in this performance

  • great todd, i love u babyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • MORE VIDEOS ON TODD RUNDGREN PLS.

  • HOpe he washed his hands after that!

  • lol

  • GREAT!

    more videos from this concert!??

  • No wonder I have loved this man's music my whole life! Happy 60th birthday to Todd!! Rock Arena!! Wonder what happened to all of his old costumes !? Kasim is still a babe!
