  • i wonder why he skipped "AS"...

  • @fbcisco33 I skipped AS because it wasn't one of the top one hundred words. But perhaps next time when I repeat the exercise I should call it 101 and include AS. Thank you for your comment. These are always helpful.

    Best wishes JackBarnett21 - Jack

  • Thank you for your response. What does it mean?

  • E ??

  • Thank you so much! This is very helping(:

  • Thanks for this. It was very helpful.

  • @sippaCup it is kind of you to say this - thanks

  • well , if someone doesn't know these words how could he understand what are you saying !!!

  • @car8gtr perhaps they learn these and then go on from there. It just seemed a good idea. If you learn the most basic words then at least you have a foundation to move forward with.

    Just an idea.

  • @car8gtr perhaps he knows them but not what they look like. or he knows some of them and not all of them.

but thank you for taking the trouble to write. All these comments are going to be helpful when I do some work for my PhD

  • Hehe you sound like the narrator from Winnie the Pooh

  • @ericaleigh98 Fantastic. I have been practising this voice for a long time trying to get it right. And now you tell me I am there. Wow. Excellent.

  • @JackBarnett21 I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic? Sorry if you took that offensively, I didn't mean it as a bad thing. Just that your voices sounded similar. Do you find something wrong with the voice of the narrator from the Winnie the Pooh films?

  • @ericaleigh98 I am not sure that I would think that the voice of the actor of Winnie the Pooh is quite what I am seeking when I am delivering lectures to hundreds of students a week. I was looking for something with 'gravitas' without the pomposity.

But the accent that one has is built up over the years by one's experiences.

I grew up in central London and then taught at various schools around the country (England) - Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Roxburghshire, Kent and even New Zealand.

  • @JackBarnett21 Rest assured, your voice which I have heard in this video is extremely clear, and I believe it is perfect for lectures, it is a voice that does grab attention and it just sounds similar to the voice of the man who narrates for Winnie the Pooh, but not in the juvenile sense of the films. I'm sorry if you took that comment in the wrong sense.

  • @ericaleigh98 Thank you - my confidence is restored.

  • Thank you for your teaching, it has been very helpfull, in London you don't get to hear proper English, there is a variety of accents!

  • Thanks a lot for your videos...Very nice, very helpful...I watch your lessons with pleasure and improve my English day by day ...Best regards from Russia and Uzbekistan

  • @SvenDansk7 Thanks a bundle - Jack

  • 3 most common english words:

    MADE IN CHINA

  • @pedro1escobar1 ths is really very good - thank you - I will use this in my class teaching at university.

Where are you from? The thing is that I wouldlike to create this 100 words in other languages. Could you help? Jack

  • *BREATH* Crazy old guy British voice says:

  • common words, of course ! But how to use them?? Its a big deal :)

  • @lethiminhngoc90 So what I need is another video telling you just how to use these words. That is very kind of you - I will see what I can do. best wishes Jack

  • Yes Jack if it is possible to you, then it would wonderful.

  • Yes definitely these words are the most use full English learners.

  • @apurikishore thanks - then i shall do a third series. Do you want more explanation with each word or not?

  • english is hard!

  • @LearnOjibweWithSagii thanks for trying with me. Best wishes JackBarnett21

  • very helpful indeed.

  • The great problem when you learn words in isolation is that they do not are pronounced the same way when are inside a sentence, so it should be better if the words were taught inside a context. However this video is useful if you try to do the association with other exercises.

  • @Almightservant Thanks for the suggestions - i have tried all sorts of things to make the words more memorable - the only trouble is that the more things you add to them the longer the whole thing is and the fewer the words you are able to use. I will keep trying. Best wishes JackB

  • This is to learn English

  • thanks alot , your lessons are so useful

  • thank for your generosity and patient, you are a great teacher.

  • @deburgh65 that is very kind of you. Best wishes JackBarnett21

  • very slow and patient teaching by a teacher who actually uses correct pronunciation, unlike many trying to teach on youtube .Some of the American and Canadian lady teachers seem to gabble away and I cant understand what they are saying !!

  • Thanks for your kind words LoveMeTu

  • these words don't "make up half the words spoken in english". i could EASILY name 200 words, which is double that. and have you seen a dictionary? they have more than 200 words.

  • I was using a system that had worked out which were the 100 most used words in the English Language. Of course you could go for the 200 most used words - that would be useful to have. If you send these to me I will happily add them to a new lesson. That is very kind of you to work on. Thank you for your help Gilbert411.

  • This guy sounds smoked weed before giving these lessons.

  • I think i was trying to sound clear. Perhaps I was just a bit nervous making an early vid. But thank you for your comment. I will try harder in future. Try i-TEACH-u English 12 and 13 - I think they get less weed smoked!

  • No that is just being relaxed and trying to come to terms with the technology. I am sorry it is not frantic enough for you. Best wishes

  • thank you best wishes.

  • And 1 more sorry to reply 2 message.

    Bak Ku Teh.

  • Thank You JackBarnett21,

    his name is Joey.

  • Thank you for posting this. I have been teaching a 9 yr. old that never learned to read in school. This is very helpful.

    Great Job!

    Thanks

  • it,s very helpful. I like it

  • surely there must be a more creative way to show and teach these words

  • I think you are right. I am teaching university four days a week and preparing on other days. a more accomplished person would have done more. Sorry

  • really nice of you to tell us that! really good its helpfull....just joking..its bad

  • But you are an Irish speaker and therefore this is not really aimed at you. If English was not your first language then perhaps you would find the information contained therein useful. Best wishes JackB21

  • Thanks a lot! this video has been very useful for me. I'll rcommend it to my students. Their home language is portuguese.

  • You are most welcome. That is very kind of you. If you or they have any questions then please email me through YouTube and i will be happy to answer. Best wishes from London JackB21

  • I'm Belgian, I speak fluid English, I just stumbled upon your videos and find your voice mesmerising.

Please get out of my head ;<

  • Many apologies.

  • Heloo

  • Thank you - I would pronounce BEEN as BIN if that was how I said it but i dont so I wont. Best wishes

    JackB21

  • hi,

been is prounced in bin in every area of England apart from Lancashire. You should say been as BIN.

you should prounce come as an open u - ie cOme.

much is an open , must is an open u etc.

  • that is great Mr Nastyboy

  • hey i lake it

  • I was being polite. It is not on the list of 100 words that I used. You have obviously used a different list. I reckon if i took a survey on a different day i would find the order of the words had changed. My facts were exactly right according to my information.

  • Despite what you say - and thank you for your final kind words - 2000 people or hits a week are recorded on here - so people do find that it is useful to go through these words.

  • This mechanical way of teaching only works for those students who have a strong motivation. I am afraid not many learners are patient enough to follow this tedious teaching method. Anyway, the hard work you put in is very much appreciated.

  • Apologies - I shall keep up with the Winnie soundalike lessons. Best wishes

    Jack

  • tsk, tsk Unnecessary sarcasm!

I actually meant it as a compliment, or at least a strange way of saying your voice is charming.

My brain is functional damnit! Text comments on YouTube don't convey emotion or intent well, I guess.

  • Whenever I hear your voice, I think of Winnie the Pooh.

  • This video is very simple. It reads out the 100 most popular words in English. What I am suggesting is that if you learn these words and what they mean - then it might be helpful to you in your trying to learn the language. Best wishes Jack

ps if it is so bad why have over 100000 people looked at it.

  • this video is ...... bad..... I don´t understand

  • You left out pronouncing the word "as" at the start. Was that intentional?

  • think so....hahaha..

  • helpful indeed the pronounciation first of all, thanks:)

  • i see - news or nooz. i dont have any answer for this. if you like the sound nooz or noo then say that - if you like the new sound then say that.

    jack

  • there seems to be some controversy in my school on wheter to pronounce new as you do or " nuz " as some other teachers do. For the record, I think you are right, though the others might be right as well.. thanks and all the best 2 u

  • Language is a constantly changing set of words. If that is the way things are going - then all very well. Perhaps it will perhaps it won't. Time will tell. Best wishes.

  • i will do you a swap. My students would love your accent far more than mine.

    swishes

    jack

  • the words are from an English set, from the English company 'Ladybird'. The first 100 words. The English is spoken by me who have never been to America. I spent two years in New Zealand and so might have picked up a bit of 'southern hemesphere twang'. Otherwise 100% London. But thanks for the comment.

  • I love your accent, it's so...prestigious....can I steal it? :[

  • American English!

  • hi!!!jack!!thank for video,i want add friend!!!

  • good!!!thank very much!!

  • Hi Jack!!

I wanted to thank you for your video. It's so useful for many of us. I would pay for it. At least let me thank you so much for your effort and generosity.

    Kind Regards

  • that sounds like an excellent idea i will see what i can do.

    best wishes

    jack

ps in english it would sound nicer if you said 'is it possible that you might etc' rather than 'you should ... ' which is rather demanding.

  • you should do a video explaing how some english words can sound the same but mean different things like see and sea, know and no.thats probley the most confusing thing about english

  • i mean explaining i was writing too fast oh thats an idea you could explain the excamples of to too and two ,just an idea

  • AThere are two more videos for you to listen to and watch.

  • Hi, thanks for video. Gratulations!

Are you has with 250 words, 500 words, 750 words and 1000 words?

    please, thanks.

  • when you are talking to a single person you would say 'he is or she is'

when you are talking about two or three people you would say 'they are'

    hope that is useful.

    jack

  • fast question.. when do you know when your suppose to say ''Are'' or ''Is'' ?

  • Why didnt he say as can you read?

  • this is very good for students at intermediate level. Anyway, it is worth watching,
