Clever is a bad choice of words. Adaptation is NOT a clever movie. It is a GENIUS movie. I love Eternal Sunshine as much as the next guy, but Adaptation is on another level. Quite possible the most intellectually daring film of recent time. If you don't agree then you simply haven't seen it enough. It took me about 10 viewings before it started to sink in.
