Miss you Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant! My momma called me right after Alabama shut out LSU 2 days ago when Alabama won "our" 14th National Championship Title! Most of us still wear houndstooth & will continue to do so. I'm just old enough to remember you & your Sunday talk show. I still eat my Lay's chips & drink my coca-cola! :) RTR, Coach!
I lived off the Super H'wy which ran from Tuscaloosa to B'ham, where most of the games were played at that time. The team arrived at the Holiday Inn Fri. nights, a few mi. from stadium. Next day, kids, and some adults would line the streets as the busses passed. The players, in dress clothes with crimson ties never acknowledged this.... He was buried in B'ham. The procession wasn't traveling the Super H'wy; it was on the new Interstate, but both sides of it were filled with fans as before.
I remember when this commercial was just out. We all thought it was kind of a cheap emotional string pull for them to make him say "I sure wish I could call mine" meaning his mother. It later was reported that they did not ask Bryant to say that, that he came up with it on his own. I still wonder if that is true.
@Keithattal5 Well, thats nice ...I dont even watch football anymore ...I couldnt care less which team wins or loses ...next year the same thing ...year after year ...really what does it matter ? Today I have a life ,I have God and life is so much better living for him ......Give it a try ...time is running out and eternal devastation is all that is left
A++++ Thanks for posting this ! I was only around 10 years old when Coach Bryant passed away . I consider myself very lucky to have been able to see as much as I did, and hear my dad kidding me saying the bear took his boys in the lockeroom at the half with a 2x4 LOL One hell of a great man !!
This is awesome. What's more this is history (at least in terms of sports, lets not make it out to be bigger than it is) - many BAMA fans growing up today didn't get to witness Coach Bryant while he was alive so these clips are one of the best ways to get to know what he talked and looked like. More Bryant vidoes please!
My grandfather was a captain and 2 way starter on the '61 national championship team. He said the Coach Bryant should be refered to as "coach bryant" not "bear bryant." Just some info for those of you who respect the man. ROLL TIDE
Coach Bryant told Bobby Bowden many years ago that if he retired, he would "croak in a month". Well, eerily it came true. Yesterday, coach Bobby Bowden coached his last game, and he is 11 years older than Paul Bryant was when he retired and then, unfortunately, passed away.
@jmoon219 you know bobby bowden would have coached at bama if it wasnt for bama mishandling the whole situation. But think about that, we could have had 2 of the 3 best college coaches ever. (paterno is the other).
@cthGoTide2283 you can go kill yourself dude. coach bryant was the best man who ever lived. he was a tough coach but not an ass hole. you are so ignorant
@cthGoTide2283 - Thanks for your input, but we'll have to agree to disagree. I can't say I ever knew the man, or even had a chance to meet him. Maybe you did meet and know the man. Still, I refuse to look at him in that negative light. Coach Bryant was loyal to the University, the team, and the fans. I'll leave it at that, but thanks for your words. ROLL TIDE!
@Armyofficer oh no man im not trying to bring the guy down. i deffinately think he was a GREAT coach. i just dont want people to basicly worship him. just trying to remind them nobodys perfect. thanks for handling your input with class, adn ROLL TIDE ROLL! :)
@cthGoTide2283 - He wasn't perfect, but even knee walking drunk in a brothel with a bottle in one hand and a hungred dollar bill in the other, coach Bryant still had more class than any 3 other men you can name.
I would love to see the commercial where the little girl knocks on Coach Bryant's door and ask's "Can Mary Harmon come out and play". I wish someone would post it.
Aww. I -3 it! Thanks for posting!

This used to put a lump in my throat back when it first came out, and I had a Mama. It's a killer now. Greatest commercial ever made...

God I miss the Bear. He was so much more than a football coach...a teacher, a mentor, and a wonderful family man.
