@Alpha8264 Yeah, the whole thing is not very realistic, but the landings are real, I was just very low on gas and very slow, perhaps 120 kts with the F-14. I made the video because I could use multiple camera angles on the static carrier. I can now use cameras on a moving carrier, so I have made more realistic videos - for exaple check my "NEW Dino T-45C" trailer video...
@SuperSabio111 The arresting wires on this carrier are not active. However, in Fight Simulator even with active arresting gear, the jet will not sling back, it will only decelerate and stop.
I have Pentium 4 processor, 1.80 Ghz, nvidia graphics card, 1 gb of ram.....
will my fsx run atleast without breaking in frame rate!? im not expecting as much as yours, but a good graphic gameplay!? and btw i saw some fsx videos in which there are shaking effects with a colour difference....how do you do that!?.....pls reply
@loginname75 I think your CPU is way too slow for FSX. There is a demo version you can try - google "Flight Simulator X Trial Version". All effects are done in post-production after you record the video, for example with Windows Movie Maker (which is free) or with more expensive editing software such as Sony Vegas or Adobe After Effects. You can also check Flight Simulator 2004 - it is very good, there are no carrier landings, but it will run on slower machines.
@koolerv8kid Make sure you get the Gold Edition, which includes the Acceleration pack - you need it for the carrier operations and the F/A-18. The standard deluxe edition does not have carrier operations or the F/A-18 aircraft.
well you did a fantasic job man.. i finally got fs 2004 downloaded and i cant seem to control the f 14 for shayt haha.... i uninstalled it now im gonna try fsx maybe i'll have better luck. Hey i sure would love to see yoiu make a version of the tower flybye ...not the carrier one but the ground flybye on TOPGUN? oh and have you see the making of TOPGUN yet? if you havent you got to see it asap...its like 3-4 hours long.. effin awesome man.
@frankevega Hey, thanks for the idea to watch the making, I thought I watched it, but obviously I've only seen a very small part, I will find all of it :) I am also interested in directing, so it will be very interesting. Also I probably watched Top Gun a couple of hundred times :))))
that was so kewl man, the part where the F14s did the corkscrew manuever looked just like that one part on TOPGUN.. i liked this video alot..i hope i can do stuff like this as im downloading FS 2004 right now.
Wait, you didn't use an arrestor cable (hook) but you still managed to stop before the end of the carrier runway? Wow, you're really good! Nice flying!
Thanks! It's actually quite difficult - you have to fly really slow and then touch down at the very beginning of the deck, and it didn't happen from the first try :))
The carrier you see in the video is always there as long as your "Boat" traffic slider is at 100%. There are also moving carriers on schedule in free flight.
i got a problem, i got the IRIS F-14 but in virtual cockpit u can see out of it but then suddenly where you see all ther windows are coverd by orange stuff. the HUD is coverd etc. the colour is the orange like on life boats
There is a program called FSRecorder - it allows recording a flight (or many flights) and then playing them back as you fly. So you fly flight A and record it. Then fly flight B and record it, while playing back flight A. Then just replay flight A and B together and you have a nice formation flight :)
To get the HD option, the video you upload must be 1280x720 (or 1920x1080). Then the HD button appears automatically after the video was processed by YouTube. For additional requirements google "Optimizing your video uploads" and click the first link.
I use VirtualDub to cut the video, resize it and choose compression. They are standard functions, only for the compression you may need a H.264 codec which gives the best quality. Search youtube for "Tutorial: How to Upload HD Video to YouTube using freeware".
This is how to find the carrier near San Diego in free flight:
1) In display settings-> traffic move the slider "Ships and ferries" all the way to the right (100%).
2) Click FREE FLIGHT, choose July 1st, 2009 for date and 06:00 local time. Select North Island NAS (KNZY) for airport and runway 29. You can save the flight at this point if you want.
3) Once you take off from the runway turn left on course 270 and climb to 600 feet. After 30 seconds you will see the carrier :)
Thanks :) This is my PC: CPU Intel Core 2 E8500 @ 3.8GHz, CPU fan Zalman 9500, DDR 4 GB, nVidia 9800GTX+, Win7RC. I am very happy with the configuration, I don't feel I should change anything at this point.
Yeah, editing is a lot of fun :) For example I had the first landing shot from beginning to end from 6 or 7 different cameras, and later I could choose which camera to cut at what moment :) I wanted to cut the first landing a lot to see the effect of this type of cut, the other landings I wanted to show from only one angle...
Record the flights with FS Recorder, then replay from different angles and record video with FRAPS. Finally edit the video in Virtualdub and add music and text in Windows Movie Maker.
Yeah, I know, but at the time I didn't know how to record the way I want from a moving carrier, so I had to use a static one where I can't use my tail hook to stop (there are no wires). That's why I used airbrakes and wheel brakes and the whole length of the deck. I'll be making another video soon, much more realistic :)
wow great video man! im impressed. i dont believe how realistic it is when the setting are on high or ultra high. i have to keep mine on minimal cuz the framerates BLOW at high graphics. any tips on making it faster if its possible?
The FSX graphics settings in this video were optimized to give the best performance for the specific camera angle. For example in the shots where you don't see the city I turn autogen to zero and reduce scenery complexity. In other shots you see only the clouds - so I max out the cloud density and drawing distance but reduce water effects to zero :) FSX is very CPU hungry and you will need at least 5.0GHz for decent frame rates around busy airports and big cities with all sliders to the max!
In fact the frame rate in some shots in the video dropped below 20, basically where you see the city, the water and the clouds. Please see my comment in the other video for some tips how to optimize performance.
degigi2003, as much as I am not a fan of computer games I liked your film (and I enjoyed listening to "Danger Zone", it's a cool reminder of "Top Gun" :) ) . Good ending as well. So what's your next project?
y didnt u use the airbrake or thrust reverser
