  • I was at this show.

Brought my mother for a nice night out.

Everything was going so so well.

I was sitting in the way top row.

The weirdest thing is the singer was JUST saying something morbid about this lady and a coat.

If anyone remembers this. Like this. Cause I do.

And the next thing you know, half way through the song. BOOM . You are like "Wtf was that? "

Singer jumps out of the way and the biggest thud ever. Like a gun shot. Fastest silence I have ever witnessed. Everyone was sad.

  • @eshelmen

When I meant Lady and a coat.

it was about meeting someone I believe in NYC and found the lady was dead years later or something.

It was quite odd and then this happened.

  • more like falling quickly, amirite?

  • The set list:

    Fallen From the Sky

    All the Way Down

    When Your Mind's Made Up

    Falling Slowly.

  • @lehman dude, not cool...

  • @smitty010493 too soon?

  • My heart goes out to the victim and his friends and family, as well as The Swell season and anyone there who may have been affected by this tragedy.

  • My fiance and I were planning on having our wedding and reception at the Mountain Winery until this suicide happened. Now we're not sure... it seems there will be a dark cloud over this place after this happened. This guy was a real selfish bastard to do this at such a wonderful place in front of innocent people. Not only that but he risked the lives of others in the process (the band). I don't feel sorry for him at all, just for the people in attendance who had to witness this despicable act.

  • he owes everyone in attendance a refund..Also, the band owes him some dough as well for the publicity.

  • I bet he got a standing ovation...

  • The reason why I watched this video was because of my own morbid curiosity with death. I will admit that I do suffer from depression and often feel suicidal, I will openly admit to that. I believe it is an illness, will being lost in the waves of a sickness not get me any sympathy from some people? I don't want to get into any specifics relating to my own problems but I can tell you, depression is hard to live with and easy to die from.

  • @johnnyfoxy Its ok mate, we all feel down at times and i understand that you may feel suicidal, but i'm sure something amazing will happen to you and you will live a happy and amazing life. Stay strong.

  • @LiamThompson94 Thank you for the kind words and thank you Glen and Marketa for helping me through some difficult times.Marketa's optimism in her Oscar acceptance speech was one of the defining moments of recent years.

  • @johnnyfoxy depression is an illness that not many people understand, despite so many struggling with it. suicide may garner sympathy from some but it's not the answer. please get help... you will never regret it.

  • Maybe he wanted 350,000 hits on YouTube. Nearly there!

  • I'm sorry but those commit suicide are cowards and my heart goes out to the witnesses and families who did the actual suffering rather than the man who ended his.

  • what a bitch he ruin the gig

  • Condolences to family and friends, but this was an awful thing to force upon the audience, stage crew, and band.

  • Atleast kill yourself over a band that sucks... like Nickelback. Heyo!

  • does any person out there have the real video i need to see it or else i am missing something in my life

  • was he on drugs or anything? This kind of stuff is usually drug related if its not mental illness related.

  • Who cares?

  • so wheres the fuckin video of this guy jiumping is wut i wanna know yea its fucked up he chose to do it n front of every1 but fuck it i wanna c dat shit

  • The 260000+ people who have watched this video have viewed it in the hope of seeing a man kill himself. What does that tell us about ourselves?

  • @johnnyfoxy That people like watching people kill themselves.

  • @johnnyfoxy Hey, if this loser didn't want a bunch of people to watch him off himself, then he wouldn't have done it on a STAGE.

  • @johnnyfoxy Nothing good

  • @johnnyfoxy I think people like to see extreme things, but from a safe distance, because it makes them feel more alive without having to face the full reality of the event. That doesn't mean people should indulge that part of their human nature.

  • @johnnyfoxy you watched it...

  • @johnnyfoxy I don't know, but you wouldn't have noticed that if you didn't click the link yourself.

  • Comment removed

  • Concert promoters insisted there was no need to tighten security for the many upcoming shows at the upscale performance venue, despite indications that the man had climbed onto the roof from the back. But shaken band members of The Swell Season said they would not play Mountain Winery again, although they promised to return to the Bay Area for a benefit concert for suicide prevention.

  • they were probably playing the song: "Falling Slowly" :P

  • why didnt he just hang himself by his dick and then cock a gun into his mouth?

  • @UR55378008 You obviously don't know what "selfish" means.

  • What song were they playing when he jumped? Would be appropriate to reflect on this poor guy.

  • @sparqi I'm sorry for your loss, but the method and manner of this suicide in front of so many unwilling observers at a vulnerable moment (just read the comments at the SFWeekly article) is what makes this a selfish act. He traumatized so many innocent bystanders and children!

  • @sparqi sorry, but people want to see what happened and heal from this. I'm not saying Mike didn't have a terrible night, but he made a deliberate decision to force it upon thousands of people and could have injured someone onstage (he landed exactly where the violinist would have been standing).

  • @yayayiz In what bizarro universe does calling Mike a "selfish jerK" enable "healing"? I'm done. I'll pray for you to get some perspective.

  • @sparqi Maybe you should get some grief counseling, like the Swell Season is offering to provide for the people who attended the show. You seem like you have a lot of anger about this, and yelling at people on YouTube probably won't help you deal with this in the long run. My sincere condolences for your loss.

  • @sparqi Suicide is selfish. I'm sorry, but it will get absolutely no respect from me.

  • @yayayiz 100% agree ...

  • @sparqi given, it's pretty rude to commit suicide

  • @sparqi This Mike guy deserves no respect or compassion. Cut and pasted directly from the SF Post story on the suicide: "The Mercury News reports that the suicide victim "was facing charges of assault with a firearm, domestic violence, and false imprisonment." Pickels was out on $150,000 bail, twice the normal amount, according to the Merc." I think it is funny that they call him a victim. He wasn't a victim. He was a criminal. Sounds like he did everyone a favor, except for the witnesses.

  • @amsyco I was shocked at the self-centered lack of compassion from yayayiz, but you've gone way beyond that. The SJ Merc did a hack job on Mike's story, taking into account only his recent troubles. Mike struggled against demons from his upbringing, his family, and later with substance abuse. He was out on bail but had not gone to trial; so to call him a criminal is presumptive, prejudicial, and before the fact. To say that he did everyone a favor is amazingly callous, rude, and disrespectful.

  • @sparqi Thousands of people deal with the same issues this guy did and they don't kill themselves in front of 3000 people. My mother's brother killed himself and I watched that act almost destroy my mother and push my grandparents to the lowest point in their lives, and they had already lost a child to a freak on the feild football accident. I have no respect for someone who commits suicide, unless you have some terrible terminal disease. Sorry to offend, but this is how I feel about it.

  • @sparqi

hey, i'm sorry you lost your friend

    my thoughts are with you

  • @sparqi Suicide is the most selfish act anyone can ever commit. God gives you life and you're selfish enough to say "no its not good enough". And at a public event in front of thousands? Cmon, theres nothing more selfish than that.

  • @sparqi When you kill yourself, you are a selfish jerk. He has robbed his family and friends of time with him AND he fucked up this show for a lot of people. Sorry for your loss, but the fact is that this dude is a selfish jerk.

  • The guy had a troubled past and obviously had mental issues. I agree with nanita2080 that it is rude of you to say. Think about his family, the band has multiple concerts, why are you so concerned that the guy "ruined your concert". That's horrible.

  • anybody got some footage of the guy jumping?

  • He probably jumped because their music SUCKS. I would probably think of killing myself after having to listen to that crap.

  • @skaz21 Indeed...

  • Attention whore

  • i blame their music!

  • @dinkipooxa nup

  • @dinkipooxa By that logic, can't you just homicide is just guns/ropes/etc that kill someone and let the person using the gun/rope/etc be free?

The concept of suicide and homicide is about who is doing the killing, not the medium..

  • @simbasa i do think his act was extreme and very hurtful - i'm only refering to suicide itself be it on your own or whatever. I am delighted you got help but if the help did not work then the thoughts would persist and possible eventually override any feelings for family .I believe that us humans have a huge capacity for love and empathy but that goes out the window when we become severly depressed- a fact of one of the main symptoms of depression.

  • well what a worthless suicide at least have a bomb strapped to kill people like justin beiber so we can watch fireworks and will all be happy but no....

  • @MERCURHILLMANIAC dude, stop yelling.

  • @MERCURHILLMANIAC Get some help. Seriously.

  • again with the "its a selfish act" to commit suicide - please stop passing judgement from a sain perspective.

I know of many people in terrible places in their lives and if any of them could not take it anymore then i would not have the audacity to judge them as selfish

Are the people in horrendous pain from MS who go to Switzerland to get a legal lethal injection , selfish. who gets to say when someone else is suffering i know I cant .compassion is not just for those you love or love you

  • @howrugettinon I won't argue with you. You think in one dimension. I have been on both sides of this. Good day.

  • Dear Glen please forgive the muppets who take a jab at your art- I'm a fellow Dub and I speak for most of the singer songwriters that I have net over the years who think you are a legend. You raised the bar for irish writers in terms of stage craft and dynamics. you made us all go home and practise and to sing like no ones listening.

from the strummer who was once in blue

  • goatgoat is right that was selfish actually suicide is one of the most selfish acts you could ever do

  • Suicide is good. Suicide is my religion.

  • he was a 1 hit wonder.

  • selfish jerk? Pretty callous. Sounds more like deeply troubled and desperate.

  • suicide is not the answer, the reason he did this at a concert and not in his own home is because he wanted publicity. yes, I do think that is selfish to make people suffer like this beacause your wanted your death to be noticed.

  • a given he was aiming for the lead singer as a public service; sadly, he missed

  • Whatever happened to "the show must go on?"

  • I don't know what's worse - watching this video or listening to their music.

  • well the guy is dead why would he give a shit. im pretty sure he was thinking about all the things that would happen before this event.

  • every one who is calling this man selfish are twats. the guy was obviously troubled. and emm yeah im pretty sure putting up this video was a bit more selfish so...

  • @dropdead360 being troubled isn't an excuse to burden others with your troubles. If you want to kill yourself, that's your choice, but to do it like this, where your goal is to traumatize people enjoying a concert, and possibly kill someone on stage, is nothing short of disgusting. I don't care what this guy's problems were, someone that fucked up doesn't deserve to live.

  • @CaptainVicStevens alright yeah, fair enough it was a terrible decision, but if he was that troubled that he had to do that then you have to feel some pity for him? and dont say he didnt deserve to live, its very disrespectful.

  • @CaptainVicStevens Doesn't deserve to live, I guess you are qualified to make that judgement. But since he didn't deserve to live would you then say he did a good thing by killing himself?

  • Is the band gonna change their name to "Swell SWAN DIVE BITCH"?

  • Jeez, I didn't think the Swell Season were THAT bad

  • @kf18mittens39w lol thats what i was thinking!

  • did he die?

  • I guess his mind was made up.

  • people - educate yourself before using the word "selfish" when it comes to suicide - yes the way this man finished his life is seflish but suicide brought on by severe depression can be the act of a very compassionate, thoughtful human being who has struggled with crippling mental anguish for years to the point where the illness removes all joy, all hope , all love. When you have none of these thing and still think suicide is selfish let me know .

  • @howrugettinon the problem with your argument is that suicide affects more people than just the victim. When you decide to end your life, your family and friends have to live with your decision for the rest of THEIR lives. That's selfish.

  • @howrugettinon true, these folk music fans are some cold, cold, fish.

  • @howrugettinon Have you ever been suicidal? I have been there. I realized that there was help available and got it. The last thing I would ever have thought of doing was to kill myself in front of other people like this man did. This guy decided to leave a few victims in his wake. Some of them 7 year old kids. No need for that. Absolutely not..

Compassionate and thoughtful this guy was not. If he was, he would have sought help. He chose his path of destruction. No excuses.

  • Selfish act all around. If you are feeling like killing yourself please get help as ther eare many who want to help you.....or at least don't leave so many people to deal with the aftermath of your decision.

From what I read he was in serious trouble for assault. A troubled man with no respect for himself or others. Sad. Help is out there if you want it.

  • @Fduptv and the rest. This will be my last post and response and for those who say of I wasn't there I can't judge...I'm not judging. He was my brother. Love to you all.

  • The guy who did this was an asshole. If he had landed on one of the musicians or the audience members he could have killed them. Your pain or anguish does not give you the right to hurt other people or to put them at risk.

  • Shrooms are a helluva drug.

  • And the band kept playing on...(or at least that is how it should have ended).

  • False advertising - no jump. -Please amend title of vid.

    Thank you, kind sir.

    ~YouTube Compliance Staff

  • Nothing wrong with selfishness, since every act comes forth out of selfishness... Too bad he had to inflict so many people with it...

  • The man apparently landed close to Glen, but Glen still manages to show consideration towards the deceased and his family. I'm surprised at all these people who were sitting rows down and their complaints about this mans selfishness. It was no doubt hard to witness, but calling him selfish is frankly saying more about them than anyone else.

  • It's terrible that everyone had to witness such a thing, but to call the man selfish just seems ignorant. I've been a big fan of Glen and Mar for a long time and I'm so impressed with the way they have handled this. Their official statement about the incident: The band, crew and all involved with them are shocked and saddened by the death that occurred at last night's show. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the deceased, his family and friends.

  • a running start LOL

  • news reports state that the "jumper" was from san jose, ca and out on bail on a

domestic violence incident. guess mountain winery staff and sheriff were not

able to secure the backstage areas... very alarming... santa clara county sheriff

provides law enforcement services in saratoga, ca where this venue is located.

  • @CoolOrb

Yes, it's alarming tha this man could easily climb up the building without any security noticing, I hope there'll be some sort of investigation into security at this venue for peace of mind of future concert goers and performers. Don't get me started on bail laws!

  • Thank god it was just a Swell Season concert and nothing important.

  • the guy jumped from there and cleared all that framework to land on the front of the stage? did he get a running start?

  • @youmeddlingkids Yes, some witnesses said that he ran across the rooftop (stumbling a few times) and then jumped.

  • @yayayiz And some say he may have hit the framework and flipped once. I'm not sure because I only saw him after he jumped as he passed the lights.

  • @youmeddlingkids I think there's a gap in between the framework and the building. I don't think it would be that hard. it's pretty straight down.

  • Maybe they were playing "Falling Slowly."

  • who is the stupid worthless cunt who posted this video. no jump so it didn't happen. fucking fake lame video.

  • how do you know it was suicide? what if the guy was on drugs and thought he was invincible? why would somebody suicide in front of all them people like that? my best guess is he was on drugs! no good can come out of killing yourself the way he did most people want attention or a cry for help when they climb up a bridge and they dont jump in the end, this man wanted no attention or cry for help cuz he jumped and died before anyone knew what was going on

  • god how i hate that, the same thign when they throw themselfs onto tracks, so i and thousands more get in trouble at work....if you wanna take your life, fine, thats youre right, but dont ruin my evening, dont make people watch you, who may not be able to take it.

  • Suicide is neither "selfish" nor cowardly. In a different spin... Who are others to tell him he doesn't own his existence and thus be able to decide when to end it? Also, it's easier to continue living because we're all afraid of what's on the other side. Is there a heaven or hell, or is there just an unconscious void? It takes a lot of courage (or insanity) to take that lunge into the darkness instead of staying in the familiar living world.

  • Did he do a flip?

  • @BayesianMan lol best comment evar?

  • disappoint, i thought we'd get to see the guy jump

  • Geez...you'd expect this kind of thing at a HASSELHOFF gig, not these guys!

  • Um....did the guy yell, "BANZAI MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRS"!!!! Just before he jumped?

  • Poor man!? He was a guy who was out on $150,000 bail for domestic violence chargers for threatening to kill his girlfriend & himself, tying her up and pointing a loaded gun at her.

Yes the fact that he subjected people to his death is wrong, but good riddance to bad rubbish!!

  • he truly is an hero.

  • @jlh24 - I was also there. Given that he landed just three fett from the lead singer, he could have easily killed another person besides himself. Incredibly selfish to put others at risk.

  • @dnicely9 I know. When someone kills him or herself, no one else should be physically injured. I definitely will not put anyone else in harms way or worse. People should take that pledge when they decide to off themselves!

  • Really disrespectful to call the person selfish... Perhaps examine your own selfishness before judging others.

  • @nanita2080 He killed himself in public to get publicity, to make others suffer for his own means, how is that not selfish?

  • @goatgoat It is not selfish...when you are dead, you have no publicity or means.

  • @quarvis He scarred a good many people for what reason? There were children at the show. Why kill yourself in this manner? Seriously go read some of the comments from people who witnessed it. He could have killed someone on stage. He landed a few feet from one of the musicians. And he was out on bail for assault with a firearm, domestic violence and false imprisonment.

Most people would think these are selfish acts from someone with little regard for other people,

  • @nanita2080 I have to say your wrong there. If he wanted to kill himself, he could have done it somewhere private. He made sure he ruined a bunch of peoples day on his way out. This is the same type of person who would strap a bomb to his chest and not give a shit about you or anyone else. So yes he was selfish no matter what he was thinking. What if he had landed on someone.

  • @smitherschad Completely Agree!

  • @nanita2080 While it is hard to understand because death is involved.. it was still indeed a selfish act by that person. They decided to end their life in front of A LOT of people, who will forever have this embedded in their minds for the rest of their life. Some will deal with it better then others, but to witness something like this is life changing.

To many people, this act was indeed selfish, to some it was not, but everyone has their own opinion on the matter.

    May this person R.I.P

  • @nanita2080 I concur.

  • Shame, poor guy. Seems like the frustrations of a criminally insane world were just too much for him. My heart goes out to Michael Pickels. Everyone needs to feel worth something in order to sustain a will to survive; too many people are outside the 'acceptable' box these days, particularly if they don't swallow the official commercial/fascist line to a tee.

  • Whether or not he was depressed, this man did this in a way where he wanted everyone to see and witness his death, even the children in the audience. He drove up a windy road to this winery. He paid $20 to park. He sat through half the concert. And when he was ready, he killed himself where all of us would have to witness it and be forced to see something ugly that we would never be able to forget. Not selfish? You can only say that if you weren't there. Sorry if that makes me an ugly person.

  • that guy is a pussy....so good 4 him for killing himself and ruining a concert...killing urself is cowardly and PATHETIC

  • that guy is a pussy....so good 4 him for killing himself and ruining a concert...killing urself is cowardly and PATHETIC

  • @newyorkgiant17 Killing yourself is NOT cowardly and pathetic when the pain of life is just too much to take every single day. Sometimes people have no choice, they're forced into a life that's complete Hell on Earth and they have no way to get out of it. Why live in such a way??? That makes NO sense. To wake up each day in misery and wish for nothing but to be dead, over and over, day after day. Suicide is the best answer sometimes, sometimes the only logical answer.

  • @Zooomabooma I hope you're not at that point, my friend. You sound like you know what it feels like. If you do, I hope you get some help because you might not think so, but I'm sure there are people in your life who want/need you on this Earth for as long as possible.

  • @Zooomabooma Suicide is the most selfish and cowardly way to die. No matter what.

  • Some of you commenting on this video need to look at what messages you're putting out into the universe, and know that it's going to come back at you twice over. Don't be surprised if your life continues to go badly, if it already is. You are perpetuating your own misery by being negative. Just be glad you're alive, help others find happiness and you'll make the world a better place.

  • @Sara161616 Thank you - finally nice to see someone with compassion.

  • Suicide is taking yourself away from the people who love you with no regard for how it's going to affect them. That is the very definition of "selfish." Adding to things, if you want to end your own life, you don't do it onstage at a fucking concert. How desperate for attention can one person be?

  • I heard he was high on pot when he jumped.

  • "selfish jerk" ? JHC, you are such a shining prize! and what is wrong with the little world you happen to live in - idiot!

  • "selfish jerk"? This man obviously had problems and was suffering from feelings of depression. Yes, the act of suicide is selfish in that the person is not thinking of anything or anyone else but ending their own pain. But it is caused by a horrible disease and is a very sad thing.

  • Many people are saying "suicide is selfish" and "cowardly". Someone who is sick enough to take their own life is not thinking of anyone or anything but whatever pain they are in. Pain being emotionally or physically. It's sad to see how uneducated some people are when it comes to this. Take a moment, read about what "frame of mind" people are in when this happens. Your comments make no sense and have no meaning. How about something positive for ONCE in your life? I'm tired of being negative.

  • What a suck as video. Youtube sucks. Ain't nothing to it. Quit visiting this site, Corporate owned aimed at crushing the little guy. EJB.com gorillamask, uproxx.!! Fuck this youtube shit, You're all sellouts Pussies.

  • did anyone get a video of the jump? lol

  • Screw him, to do that in front of innocent people and children present. This moron should have waited till he got home and blew his brains out. Rest in agony jerk.

  • wheres the video of him jumping.. and who the fuck is swell season.. there music must suck

  • What a selfish idiot. He could've committed suicide in privacy but instead he share his suicide with all these people. I'm pretty sure that he's killed the joy of making and performing music for these artists. They and everyone who witnessed the suicide will be forever changed by this.

  • I feel bad for everyone who had to see such a terrible thing. If it was, indeed, suicide, it was the most selfish way to go possible.

  • @bondfool said:"it was the most selfish way to go possible."

Committing suicide is the most selfish thing one can do. In whatever manner you do it! You're literary saying 'screw those who care about me, I'm gonna take my life, and let them struggle with it for the rest of their life'!

  • @graveforest666 yupp

  • @thelemicmagick dang, I can't spell a name right today! Sorry:-/

  • @thelemikmagick no lack of love dear, just pointing out definitions appropriately. Love, compassion, truth...these are infinite qualities with infinite resources. But if one is calling something truth when it's not, it's a lie. When someone is withholding compassion to a chosen few, then it's judgement. My making this statement in no way, shape or form is not me withholding love or compassion in anyway. If someone is adding 2+2 and getting 5, my pointing out that the answer is 4 is done with no

  • @mr.scutitivel (?) compassion is not limited. Compassion by nature is infinite and should be understood as such. If your are only divvying out compassion to those whom you feel are deserving it's not compassion, it's judgement.

  • its certainly tragic but I think the guy either unintentionally or INTENTIONALLY brought a lot of attention to a little known indie band. "Swell Season" is the 7th most popular search on Google Trends right now....perhaps the guy wanted to commit suicide during their concert so that his favorite band would get a shit load of recognition?

  • When your mind's made up, there's no point in trying to change it..

It is really sad and a bit traumatic to all of us who were there, but at least we can see them again next time they come around. I certainly will, it was an unforgettable show

  • wow, i feel so bad for everyone who witnissed this, the shock they had to go through. but this man should not have done that in front of such a large crowd. he knew what he was doing. hes guilty

  • @liliana93 and how should we punish him?

It is a horrible thing to witness. We can't really "should" on a dead man. Rather than criminal, I think he was sick. The sad thing is that other sick individuals see all the attention this is getting and they fantasize about going out in a blaze of glory. This may lead to copycats, like the teenagers in the Gunn highschool suicide cluster or the men in China attacking school children with knives and getting killed by cops.

    sick, ugly and unfortunate.

  • @liliana93 arrest that man

  • such a tragic waste

    Godspeed man

  • I am glad he died.

  • @BrokenBassBin Wow....I can smell your soul burning in hell at this very moment.

  • @urwhatthewho Where's that?

  • Guy should have done us a favor and just shot himself in the privacy of his own home.

  • This man subjected thousands of innocent people to a terrible, terrible deed. No one should have to see someone die.

    Suicide is, with
