the best falsetto i ever heard, powerful and true, no gimmicks, just a man his voice and guitar and talent beyond belief, sorely missed. even today in his 70s i reckon he would be turning out good country music, a sad departure from this world, he had so much more to give!!!
a 14 year old hear, his music inspired me thru the toughest times, his voice knocks out all others in ANY current competition, what I would've given to have a time machine right now. :) R.I.P
I have always defined this song, "I Won't Be There" as Del Shannon's great roller coaster ride of vocals. He's up and down and up and down and he sings it with such ease it almost makes you angry 'cause it's hard to sing along. But I really love this record! Jerry Osborne said this is his favorite all time tune by Del Shannon.
Had a half hour conversation with Del at Wakefield Theatre Club in the 70`s.---the greatest singer of all time! This song sends shivers down my spine.really demonstrates what a fantastic unique voice he had.
Really a good bloke-although smaller than his publicity blurb!Smoked really long cigarettes. He signed my `live in Manchester` L P and a photo in black biro. They are among my proudest possessions.
I remember listening to Del in my 53 chev, even in mono sound he was and is the greatest .Over the years his music helped me through some trying times at home and abroad. His music lives forever with us.Thanks for posting.
I have this on a Bigtop single (flip: Ginny In The Mirror)... or was it Cry Myself To Sleep - damn, this is what old age does 2 ya! Anyway, I Won't Be There has always been a favorite - many thanks 4 posting it
