  • Great video leaving out of KLGA

  • Back when a cockpit looked like a cockpit, not a TV set!

  • @falcondriver100 ... I've flown both and the nostalgia factor is definitely something with the older cockpits.

  • You flew to Norfolk,Va right?

  • @hockeyluva77 ...Yep, I was based there for sometime. The landing is into good Ol' ORF (Norfolk).

  • @captluckyduck Yea tahts where i live, go there all the time to spotlol, im a student pilot at Hampton Roads Excecutive Airport.

  • infected with music I turned this crap off

  • Nice Job Captainluckyduck. Nice Job F.O. Excellent airman-ship skills. Great Video!

  • @LifeStartCPR64669 ...I appreciate it.

  • I'm flight instructing right now, great video with a good music selection. I'm getting close with in a few months to be applying for jobs like this. I would love to fly a turboprop, love the growl noise they make. Thanks for a bit of inspiration to help me through my burnout.

  • @JSF747 ...Ain't nothin' like the growl...good luck!!!! Hope you are doing well now.

  • @captluckyduck Doing well. Will be done with new hire class for the BE1900D in a few weeks, am supper happy that I'll be flying a turboprop. Any chance you could make this video available to play on mobile devices, my laptop crashed and this helps the motivation to keep studying.

  • @JSF747 I wish I knew how, I'll try looking for the old file...not sure if I have it. If you know how I could make that happen I will accommodate, not too tech savvy. Believe it or not I'm jealous....I flew King Air 200's and loved every minute of it, I always wanted to fly the 1900. Enjoy it!!!

  • Its sad to say but my little sister makes more money working at Mcdonalds on the weekend than a flight crew working for Colgan...........Wish you best of luck in the future boys.

  • @cessnaclub A first year FO at Colgan, perhaps, and prior to the new joint contract.

  • @dyockey ...I was a 2nd or 3rd year Captain and I left right after ALPA got voted on to property pre contract. This was before we had the Q400.

  • @cessnaclub ...My friends still there says it has gotten better, but that is just the standard industry wide. Regionals need to step up paywise...

  • Great video! I love Colgan! I flew on them CRW-IAD in June of 2010. I will fly with them in June 2011, CRW-DCA! Great airline! Thanks for the video!

  • @jtlsdream ...Flown that route many of times. I always enjoyed flying in and out of "Charlie West."

  • great video!

I like the music, added a really nice touch to the video! Hope your career is doing well!

  • @navymmw ...I'm working overseas and loving every minute of it. Thank you.

  • I love that song. (come on feel the noise)

  • Chief great video man but it would have been much better if there was no music...

  • FYI the name of this song (at the beginning) is Sea of Heartbreak by Don Gibson.

  • Love it... great times :)

  • sweet video man!

  • See, these guys really make $100,000 a year. They just have to pay $70,000 of that for the million dollar views up front.

  • Taxi with one engine feathered to facilitate operating the High Pressure bleed off feathered engine to both PACKS via a crossvalve.

  • Awesome vid & Aircraft! btw who's version of Sea of Heartbreak was that?

  • Lose the music..................................

  • @capilanonv mute it.....

  • @capilanonv - When you make the movies and do the flyin, you can pick the music. Sit down n shut up, no whinin.

  • Why do you taxi with the number one prop feathered?

  • be better if you could hear radio calls

  • I just finished my Multi today and I think that this is a KICKASS VIDEO!!! please keep 'em coming.... nice job!

  • Just thought I'd say I watch this video every day, I'm a private pilot and working on my instrument and it is very inspirational :) Best of luck in your career :)

P.S. I liked the sound track!

  • Hi.

I have a question for you relating to the SAAB. I used to fly this plane a lot(as a passenger on Mesaba Airlines) and I noticed when we are taxiing, the engine sound goes from a grumble, to a high whispy-like sound, then back to a low rumble frequently. What is this phenomenon? Possibly the reversers? Please andswe as I am very curious! Thanks.

  • @runway34r

The props are going from Beta which is a flat pitch of the propellors. You basically have 3 detents, flight idle, ground idle(beta) and reverse. The Saab is very distinctive, we called it the "Saab Growl"

  • @captluckyduck Ok. Isnt it a beautiful sound?! :)

  • never ever understood why do u need music in a vidoe like that omg

  • colgan pilots!!!!!!

  • bit of a crosswind on takeoff huh, had a bit of aileron deflection .. great video!!!! :)

  • @bobistheman02

Good ol' LGA winds, probably gustin' past 30...

  • why did the first officer push the captains yoke at 7:52

  • @mikalization

The lever he pulled just prior to that is the control lock. The FO just moved the captain's yoke to lock it.

  • @mikalization

He is locking the yoke once the control lock was engaged.

  • Awesommmmmeee! You will move one, fly for a lot of money, even pay off your training loans, but you will miss flying props! God blees prop drivers!!

  • @Outsourcingfighter

You can make alot of money flying props, just depends where you're at.

  • The clash? ;P

  • @zaphr89

    Yep

  • so awesome. I love this vid. have to come back every few months to get my fix. i admire you :)

  • Don't be fooled. The guys on the video make near minimum wage. yes hard to believe. Colgan air Sucks balls don't fly for them if it's the last option. No Joke.

  • @ejuoi The only reason they make crap pay is so passengers can get the cheap tickets.

  • Starting my training on the Saab340 in two months in Minisota for my first job as a airline pilot :P After reading the technical stuff I saw this video, MAN i can't whait.... Thumbs up!

  • Is a single engine taxi harder to do than taxing with both engines producing thrust?

  • @kcoikid

Nope just as easy, just can't make tight turns. We have a tiller, which is like a little steering wheel.

  • @captluckyduck

Hey Man I have an interview with Colgan this friday, do you have any advice or special things I need to do?

  • Awesome! 5/5! But just one question, What Airline was this?

  • hey man, workin on my multi right now can't wait till i'm at this stage, nice vid nice awesome soundtrack!

  • @AviatorAndyK

I'm glad some people appreciate the music.

  • @captluckyduck agreed. it fits this perfectly

  • Was this in the days when we could walk down to the departure gate to see our loved ones safely off - and before the flight crew arrested you for going to the bathroom?

  • @WinchesterRanger

    No, after 9/11

  • @WinchesterRanger I miss those days. When I was little we would always go with my dad to the airport and watch him go.

  • @RCKTBOY7 You and me both buddy.

  • @RCKTBOY7 ...Same when I was a kid... great memories.

  • What does the hand gesture at 1:28 mean?

  • @JiggyHo

Open hand/ closed fist - I was signifying to the ground crew that the brakes were set.

  • And then the thumb-and-two-fingers that you rotate as you're taxiing up to the runway, at 2:30 or so?

  • We were being towed from the gate to our starting spot. I was alerting the ground crew I was starting engine #2 (2 fingers up) as for the thumb, no really good explanation.

  • @captluckyduck or that he was 2 legit to quit ;)

  • Forgot to mention!

    Ramp ops PWM 1985-2005 !

    Blue skies !

  • Awesome. I was based in PWM as an FO Feb '04-Jun '04. We prob knew some some of the same people. Stacey, Haley, Roxanne...

  • Never mind the Bullsh--!

That was a greaser captain ! Nice flying !

  • Yeah, I knew the camera was rolling so I didn't want to plant her in.

  • Good choice of music. I fly these aircraft as a passenger from my country town of Griffith to Sydney. I dont like flying and am very nervous but am very very fascinated with it,,,,go figure?!?

The pilot in this vid is very hot ;) lol

  • That's funny and thank you...

  • Too Legit in the cockpit caught me off guard.

  • @fernanties

It just seemed to flow, especially with the "turning 2"

  • Absolutely fantastic video....2 thumbs up!

  • @cozminos

    Thank you

  • I have a fear of flying and I think your video may be able to help me fly! Is there a way for me to obtain a copy?

  • @drcatn

I appologize it has been a while since I checked this account, Unfortunately I do not have the file for this anymore.

  • Hi Captain

I enjoyed very much your video and I would like to know about this version of Sea of Heartbreak, who is the singer? Don Gibson?

  • @ggcas2007

Yep sure is Don Gibson, my favorite version.

  • @captluckyduck

Mine too, Cap, thanks a lot!

  • Good ol' 9L. Work for Colgan now. Still lovin' it.

  • It's a shame Good ol' Colgan is becoming more Pinnacle. I've been gone for over a year now, I miss the people I flew with,

  • Couple of questions for ya captluckyduck.....

It looks like you guys close the bleeds on vacating the runway and you feather the left engine whilst taxiing in still?? i thought you were getting ready for a single engine turn around on a freight operation or something but then you shut down....

  • It's a personal technique. I feather 1 engine to lower cabin noise for passenger comfort. Also, on the Saab to get high pressure cooling, you feather 1 engine and bring up the ITT (FX Eng) until you get trophing, for a cooler blast of air. This is very important on a hot summer southern day. Also its been a few years since the Saab but we might close the bleeds prior, I can't remember for certain.

  • no importa que te digan sobre el video el sentimiento es mutuo es exelente el cideo, deberias hacer mas videos como este, felicidades me traes recuerdos muy gratificantes con este video y su MUSICA

  • Colgan Air?

  • Yep, ol' CJC

  • I will never ever ever understand why people insist on playing music on an aircraft video, it destroys the cool sounds of the aircraft, engines and avionics.

  • why co pilot touch your yoke?

  • If you notice prior to that, the FO pulls a lever up, the gust lock. When aerodynamic breaking is no longer needed or useful for directional control, I pull the gust lock release switch. That is his signal to engage the gust lock. After this he pushes the yoke forward to lock the flight controls.

  • what airline ? colgan air

  • Yep, good ol' CJC

  • im gfpt atm on my way to cpl with a mecir in a seminole, how big is the jump from a seminole to a 340?

  • A bit of a jump.....to say the least.

  • There's a difference. I can't compare, I was flying King Air 200s prior to the airlines so the jump for me wasn't bad. But I have seen guys do it and I've trained guys who have. Hell I trained guys with 500 total and 50 multi on the Q400.

  • Can you get me a F/O job? : D

    710TT 55Multi MECIR, ATPL's

    lol nice video

  • I know there is a ground school class on the SAAB right now, so they are hiring, but unfortunately I'm out of the loop. I left Colgan a year ago and am in Japan now, sorry.

  • Sweet video! What's the hand signal around 1:27? Brakes set then something else?

  • Start engine #2

  • The hand signal is "Starting #2 engine" he was making sure the ground crew saw that blades on #2 were about to start spinning.

  • That's what I figured. Just looks a bit different than the one I'm used to using.

  • captluckyduck, Well done!. its got it all. Flying, excellent views, flying, damn fine music, more flying, x-country views, (great for this Aussie to see what your country looks like-not just tv shows), er, did I mention flying?, luv it mate. Had I seen this when I was a miniature ground-pounder, I would've worked harder to get my undercarriage (wheels) up.

    I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Whatever's next, make it soon, I have a day old grandson I must introduce to flying.

  • Seriously great video!! I'm a line service guy and fuelin the good old Saab or weedwacker as we call it is one of the easiest and most reliable things to refuel. I've been working the line for 3 years and I've never had to overwing a Saab. Sierra Hotel Video!!!

  • Yeah the swedes built a tank, but she's a good ol' gal.

  • ty so much for the feed back i usally stroll by here after all night poker binge so excuse the typos it is all about money and it sickens me.i have really poored my life into aviation and the gaps in training and re tooling after such hiaduses is just getting to me.i have to pay all money up front then the gi bill will re comp me 60% i know i am lucky for that but it is so hard to get through it. i thank god for FSX everyday. please post more i do appreciate seeing someone who made it.

  • Great video! i love the saab 340. What aircraft are you flying for ANA?

  • @panchoOLC

    Dash 8 Q400

  • I love this video soooo much omy all time favorate you tube video ever!!! i am about 25hrs into my private pilot training. i am so discuraged with the fact that i have the gi bill and i still have to front the money for my pvt and a large chunk of the rest of the training i would give my life to just fly 1900d's or saab 340's for you are so lukey!!!

  • They really need to rework that system. I appreciate the positive response. I do consider myself lucky, I love what I do. The debt associated with flying sucks, especially with how much it costs now. A c152 was 37.00 when I started flying(93). Keep plugin' away as best you can, worth it. When you are there you will appreciate it that much more, I know.

  • saab is good

  • Very cool!

  • Probably would have been a great video, without all that stupid music.Yuck!

  • mute it ; )

  • Grow up. Just because you don't like the music, does not mean other people do not. I don't like the music, but I don't leave nasty comments, I just mute the audio and put some other music. Your comment was rather immature.

  • What type of aircraft are you flying for ANA?

  • There Dash 8 Q400

  • What made you want to switch? and thanks for answering my question, its nice to be able to talk to pilots and see whats up.

  • I was at Colgan for 5 years and needed a change. Also Japan pays its pilots quite a bit more.

  • All Nipon Airways? Cool!

  • My prayers with the people on board the Colgan flight that went down.

  • Thank you. I knew the First Officer very well. We flew a lot together and she was the FO on my last flight with Colgan, One hell of a pilot and an all around great person. "Fly the last flight west... for the final check..."

  • Don't mean to bug you again but what are all the songs in this video? I like them, lol.

  • Not at all, I'm glad you can enjoy and see the humor in this video.

    #1, "Sea of Heartbreak"-Don Gibson.

    #2 "2 Legit"-MC Hammer.

    #3 "Come on Feel the Noize"-Quiet Riot. #4 "Rudie Can't Fail"-The Clash.

    #5 "Your Love"-Outfield

#6 "Pissin' in the Wind"-Jerry Jeff Walker

  • Thanks a lot man!

  • Glad to see you just posted this. My prayers with all of you guys.

  • Even though I now see you no longer fly for Colgan.

  • Thank you, Colgan has always been a closed knit family of pilots and flight attendants. Even though my last day was last Oct, I still know most the people there. I lost some friends. God speed...

  • What's the first song? Great video. Watch it every day. ;)

  • Don Gibson, "Sea of Heartbreak." Old country song from the fifties. Thanks, I appreciate it. It's my little way of saying, "no matter how bad this industry gets, you can still have a little fun."

  • Hey Jeremy, you never called me back! Hadn't seen your video before, I miss those days sometimes.

  • Yeah, I do too. Who is this?

  • Looks like you fly for Colgan? Ever make it into CRW?

  • I used to fly for Colgan, left in Oct '08. I've been into Charlie West quite a bit.

  • Who are you with nowdays?

  • I'm in training with ANA (All Nippon Airways) as a Captain in Japan.

  • Thats a HELL of an upgrade

  • I accidently removed the post from the person inquiring what Hammer song... "2 Legit."

  • "Saab Nation". Nice. No matter what plane I am on, I'll always have that SAAB love....

  • Gotta love the "Swedish Love Machine"

  • Awesome video! This plane looks fun to fly. What was the arrival airport? I saw a Southwest in the background ;)

  • My correction, Norfolk, haha.

  • its like flying a truck

  • forgot to mention.. alsom video.. !! 5 stars.. A true pilot with passion.

  • I appreciate it.

  • Ya, truly don't understand that people who become pilots bi*ch about the dream job. I would love to start from flying the ATR-72 in Eurlot airlines. I Love the Saab too. Keep flyin.. ;)

  • Thanks, will do.

  • I can see that you are a soul pilot just from the video, ;) with all that enthusiasm and professionalism in the cockpit. I do the same when I'm on a role with flight training. Get anxious and hyped up, everything just seems in click in. I'm also expieriencing the same negative comments on forums, I believe though it will change within 2-3 years maybe shorter.

  • Fantastic vid. It always been my dream to be a dream of being a pilot since being a kid ,but now I'm 37 old ,do think it's to late ?thanks again.

  • Thank you!

I'm so glad that there are some other souls outthere, thinking the same way as I do! These damn forums & message boards are really annoying and not worth taking a look (even here in germany, even though the situation is not that bad as in america).

And I completely share captluckyduck's opinion: If you're laid back, be honest to you AND your company, everything will turn out fine. I hate those guys who complain about everybody and everything, they will never be happy in there lives.

  • Great videos, again. How do you like being a pilot? Would you do it again? I know things aren't great right now, and there seems to be negativity all around. I am flight training now, and have had a dream of being a pilot since being a little kid. Do you still think it is worthwhile to pursue?

  • I love flying and could never do anything else, yeah, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat. The industry is not the best right now so be patient. It's the best office view in the world and beats workin' for a livin'.

  • Thanks. I need to stay away from the aviation message boards. So much negativity at them, although I've been told they represent a miniority. It just gets discouraging sometimes, with all of the complaints about everything from pay, schedules, etc. With that being said, I'd take a Saab anyday over an RJ. Are they going to keep the Saabs, along with the Q?

  • Yeah, it gets discouraging, but if some people are that unhappy do something else. I've found that the ones who are never happy could get there dream job and still bitch. I'm pretty laid back and even keeled so I just role with turmoil, not to say it isn't frustrating. I was that kid who wanted to be a pilot before I could walk, so if it's what "YOU" want to do, to hell with the naysayers. We are a scaling back the Saabs and hopefully getting more Q400.

  • Lol i live in Orf aka Norfolk!!!

  • NICEEE!!

lol at 5:04? ....is that....a TEDDY BEAR?? hahaha man cool vid!!;)

  • its pedobear!

  • I fly the Metroliner III right now but soon we will be switching over to the Saab 340...cant wait!

  • Wonderful movie! The cockpit looks very nice it doesn't have the latest bells and whistles.

  • So how's the Q? Looks like an awesome plane!

  • It's good built like a tank, handle's weather well. It's nice having the new technology and automation.

  • Who did the videoing by the way?

  • Friend/co-worker.

  • They did good.

  • you fly for this airline? what airline you fly for? how was the jump seat?

  • Yes, Colgan Air, worse than some, better than others. Still a decent view, though.

  • The SF-340 is a wonderful plane. I fly the SF-340 for Mesaba (Northwest Airlink) out of DTW. Never been to LGA but have been to JFK.

  • what airport? a lot of sf- 340

  • LGA, New York's La Guardia Airport.

  • I love the saab but I need a brighter future.

  • i cant wait to get my hands on this airplane. Im surrounded by guys wanting the crj. Ill take the saab hands down!

  • to tell you the truth i would be satisfied with any commuter plane,(dash-8, saab 340, b1900, crj, erj, atr) i just want to be a pilot lol.

  • love this vid.

  • what approach you do? The expressway visual runway 31? That is the cool one
