I don't really like the sound. I'm less into the fart cannon sound, and more into the refined sport sound. I'd prefer the stock sound. I like a non refined sound say on vehicles like my truck, but not on a sporty coupe.
Just to clarify this is a race system that does not represent the sound of all other APR exhaust systems. Essentially this is a wide open, 3 inch, unrestricted design that yields 35hp and 30ft-lbs of torque designed for weekend racers that just want as much power as possible. Sound was never a consideration during the design. Also, as others have pointed, exhaust tone at cold start is significantly different due to catalyst heating routines built into the ECU.
I was checking out the APR website and was thinking about this exhaust but... it just doesn't improve the sound at all. The 3 inch piping will definitely be an improvement but the sound could be more refined. Maybe their new setup will fix the issue like you speculate.
I wouldn't call this car a ricer, Audi makes alot better cars then honda, what civic comes with a stock turbo,225hp and AWD? NONE. I think it sounds good. and shit if you can afford it get a Audi RS4 or S4, def not ricers.
My APR system has no mufflers and no exhaust. Their new design adds a resonator in the mid-pipe and 2 small mufflers just before each tip. It probably sounds a little more refined with the new design.
i have this exhaust and its waaaaayyyy too loud. i think i spoke to that same chris at apr and he mentioned that it wasn't meant for a street car. the guy at e-code tuning said it wasn't for a race car either. either way, its too loud. they tried adding a resonator and it didn't help too much. anyone in the market for an apr 3" turbo-back exhaust, slightly used, slightly modified?
what do you think it's going to sound like. it's not a v8 pale. come on now it sound ok i like other exhaust better but damn come on it's 3in exhaust it for power.
I talked to Chris at APR and he listened to this clip and said that their exhaust doesn't sound like this at all. To his knowledge APR has never sold a 3" system for the TT that did not include a muffler.
I was suprised as well when I first received the exhaust. But when I called I was told this was the "new design and the pics are not updated on the website". I have also seen two other different 3" turbo-back exhaust pics from APR and they have mufflers. So it seems that the design changes frequently. My system was shipped directly from their manufacturer to me so maybe APR never saw it.
There are no resonators. Just a 3" downpipe to high-flow cat. Then a straight 3" pipe going to a "Y" in the back. Tips are 4" There are no resonators and no mufflers. I believe the updated newer APR systems include resonators.
Why do you ask? I assume it is because of the video footage of my boost gauge. Keep in mind that I was modulating the throttle during that run as opposed to just flooring it. However I do believe I have a boost spiking problem. My spike is approx 5psi over the set/hold level. Simply put, I spike at 24-25 psi...and then it falls back and holds at 19-20 psi. I would prefer less spike but maintain the same 20 psi hold.

Not to be rude but that sound like shit. You sound like a damn SRT4. Is that supposed to be cool? We both know its not so go get a muffler.

Sounds decent at high rpms but I don't like the tone at idle. Kinda dissapointing, doesn't this turbo back system cost like 2k?

Sounds like a crappy ricer.. or a truck maybe
zak7711 4 years ago
so what you are saying is that a ricer and a truck sound alike?
vwaudi914 3 years ago
ricers with their 3" or 4" wide open mufflers can sound like anything -a truck, a boat- but not a sports car.

it sounds like a diesel....the APR 2.5" catback is much better sounding although I still feel it's a little too loud for a TT
marcus1701 4 years ago
I hate to say it but the APR setup makes the TT sound like a tractor.
