I got a question I own a 04 gto but my car isnt stock its bored out wit a cold air intake air filter and dual magma flow exhaust but I recentley raced a new ss camaro but when it revd it sound kinda disappointing I thought it was a v6 until I noticed its ss emblems im just wondering why it sounded soo ... Ig non powerful is ot the exhaust manifolds? And o I won but only by a bumper lenght I was quite empressed by it

whats the time lag when shifting with the paddle shifters like? is it like. triptronic mitsubishi where your basically suggesting when you want it to shift or is it like ferrari where you hit the shifter and in a milisecond the computer sends a quick burst of power from the motor to maintain speed while shifting. all in a matter of like. .06 seconds.

@bldeagle10 There is a delay, but it's not bad. It's probably about a 1/2 second. Manual mode is nice because it's setup right. It will not upshift until you tell it to, and it'll bounce off the rev-limiter until you shift. Also, when you slow down to a stop, it'll downshift automatically. It's a smart system!

@ojomow no actually you lose 26hp with the auto. the manual has 426, the auto has 400. not a huge difference in 0-60, i think .2 sec, and also with the 1/4 mile, but you defiantly lose 26 hp and the fun of changing gears at high revs and making mini-burnouts while changing gears, lol

there hasnt been one test from any reputable source that has the automatic being faster than the manual. gm's trannies are hardly ever efficient enough (compared to euro and japan automakers) to make them quicker than a manual version of the same car, not to mention the automatic has a slightly detuned engine (l99) vs the full blooded ls3. This car was made for a stick, leave the auto for the v6

You are wrong the Automatic is faster 0-60 Its on youtube by one of the reputable magazines or car tests I cant remember wich one it tests all 4 Camaro's V6 auto & manual and the Camaro SS Auto and manual. SS Automatic is faster 0-60 and also has shift paddles to drive in manual when you feel like it, automatic has the best of both worlds.

Maybe the auto/lower HP car has more low end torque and better gearing for the powerband. Generally you have a better shot at good 0-60 times with a torque converter anyways. An auto can take anywhere from 20-40 HP... at least taht's the range for powerglides and TH350s, not sure about these new ones, or the manuals. Also, manuals will have a heavy clutch/flywheel combo as well

Automatic takes the Sports out of the Sportscar, and you lose 30hp. The only way it's faster is if the person driving the manual doesn't know how to drive it like they stole it. I've got the 2SS/RS with the LS3 and 6-Speed manual. Pretty much smokes everything on the lot stock minus the Z06. But at 1500 lbs heavier, and shy 100hp or so on it, that's just expected. A lot of car at half the price of the Z06 though!

I love the new camaro I am proubaly going to get an SS but in the L99. Manual is fun but this will be my daily driver and it gets old after a while, with the L99 I can throw it in manual anytime I want with the paddle shifters. Plus the better fuel aconomy doesnt hurt either. The automatic is faster 0-60 by a tenth of a second but still faster it loses the quarter mile race though against the Manual because of the 26 extra HP. But for anyone that races there going to add mods so its irelevant

I used to own a V6 Fiero manual with a clutch from what felt like a tractor and I had to drive rush hour every day with it. The clutch in the new camaro I tested was feathery light in comparison.

By the way anyone who reads this, can anyone point out major differences between the SS Camaro and the R/T Challenger? I'm stuck between which one to put money on. :/ They both have 425ish hp and both look pretty badass. Ideas?

RT has 376 HP for around same money as the Camaro. Ur prob referring to SRT8 with 426HP, but that car is quite a bit more money at around 45 grand. Both cars are nice, but challanger is based on '99 Mercedes E class, and Camaro is based on much more modern platform from Austrailia.

I prefer the Camaro but that's just me. The new Challenger looks tall and narrow compared to the old ones. A car should be wide and low for better handling. That's the way the old Challengers were. The thing I don't like about the Camaros is their tail lights look funny, and would like a little more length between the front wheels and grille, sort of for the "long nose" look of the old musclecars.

Thats because it isnt a High Output engine.... the Manual is High Output 6.2 litre it says in the brochure i got. Its 6.2 High Output v8 making 422HP and an optional 6.2 Litre V8 Automatic with TAPshift available.....thats about what it says in the brochure

yes you are right but it doesn't really show it on a track last weekend we had 3 of them down there all bone stock and when the manual lost to the auto we kept switching drivers but never could out run it and he stayed consistent all night. You can do alot more to the LS3 with that tranny but the way the gears are on the auto it holds its own.

You can add an RS package to all trim levels except one I believe. I have an Inferno Orange with Black Rally Stripes SS/RS coming in sometime soon hopefully. The way to tell the differences is obviously the badge on the front that would say RS, or the dark tinted tail lights and the halo rings replacing the standard headlights.

RS package is available with the V6 Camaro or with the SS.

When RS is added to an SS, alot of times it will be called a SS/RS or RS/SS :)

The RS package is available on the SS model. The way you can tell if an SS model has an RS package is the SS badging will be red in color.

If it is an SS without an RS package, then the SS badging will be silver in color =)

I love the color. Is it me or are the mufflers really huge. No wonder it is so quiet. Why don't maufacturers put better sounding stock mufflers? This is a musclecar and should sound accordingly. One of the first things muscle guys upgrade is the exhaust.
