If you believe Drew's story, that Stacy called him from the Airport saying she was leaving him, then it makes sense that he would not be part of the search. According to Drew, she left of her own accord, so it makes sense that he would not need to search fields, woods & ponds for his wife. Now if they found evidence of foul play, that would change everything.
