Great video man. Entertaining as always to see you ripping dudes to pieces in battle. Also, the fucking flame wars you get into in the comment sections are hilarious.
I produce quality custom Viking, Anglo-Saxon, and Norman battle shields for reenactors, collectors and living history enthusiasts, and have been for several years. I do offer a faux planking effect to my less expensive plywood shields, but it in no way affects its structural integrity. My BASIC shield line features a 100% natural linen cover on the front and the back and would NEVER break like the one shown on the video. You'd have to literally hack it apart..
Oh, so that's who you are. I remember you from the Viking Age Living History Forum and didn't want or have a need for your shitty shields then, just like now.
Understand this, we INTENDED for the damn shield to break. That was the point! We have made shields of all kinds in this group for 15 years and have no need of your wares. Go and ply them elsewhere dumbass. Be gone!!
OK skallagrimm, don't get yer panties in a bunch. There's nothing I can see in the "info at right" to indicate the breakage was intentional. As a reenactor myself, I'd have been more impressed to see a shield used in a more authentic way.
My panties? If you reenacted something other than basket weaving, or perhaps salad tossing, you'd understand that the 'grooves in the shield' was the point, you moron.
First of all, we understand how a shield was made. These (if you bothered to read the info at right) are made with the intention of breaking during a fight. It's about the WOW factor during a show for the public.
We have proper, authentic shields in the group which have linen or leather facing, as well.
Odol: Depends what kind of armour your opponent is wearing. Some warhammers were made with a back-spike, designed for punching through plate, while the blunt force of it renders maille less effective.
I do hope that Odol and you, Aires, are aware that this is Viking Age. At this time the best anti armor/shield weapon would have to be the longaxe, or spear. Both lend two handed power to an attack and both are capable of piercing/ crushing/ and tearing through maille.
FANTASTIC FIGHT! This video is one of the videos that represents what our fighting group has as a goal. Amazing!

You need to cover your shields in leather or at least linen. They won't fall apart so easily then!!!

just great to see! those grooves made in shields are still weak spots so.. maybe because of that?
