enzymes are not living things.....erin mikael has no understanding of biology. cooking doesn't kill enzymes, because they were never alive in the first place. enzymes, like other proteins, can be denatured by heat, rendering them nonfunctional. it bothers me when ppl broadcast misinformation with such confidence and enthusiasm, encouraging further misinformation
@endlsswing Except that some protein are more bio-available for human when denatured, like cooked beef! Also there are some heat activated enzymes!
You can not eat raw pork or chicken either ! When you cook protein you do denature it, but your stomach's acid also denatures protein for digestion and helps breaking it down to amino acids
@sicosico When protein is denatured by cooking the polypectic bonds are unable to be converted into amino acids and are filtered through the kidneys causing kidney stones and kidney failure.
It must be great living in California, with a steady supply of tropical foods. Since imports are not ecological, nor economical in the long-term sense, what kind of suggestion for raw food do you have for people in say; Russia, Scandinavia, Canada etc. Seasonal, non-imported food in the North doesn't seem to be applicable. Raw meat? A sincere reply from you would be intriguing.
Hi Ani, I was actually wondering if protein shakes were the only option for getting protein in your diet everyday. I'm 21 and I'm going to start a raw food diet as soon as possible thanks to you! :0) My boyfriend's mom used to eat raw foods, but she said it messed up her body because of the lack of protein... I just want to be clear on the different ways to get protein.
We need carbs! I guess for weight loss eating something like kelp noodles is fine, but you cannot make a meal out of 6 calorie seaweed, oil, spices, salts and maybe a bit of tomato. That's not enough to feed our bodies! Vitamins/minerals are great but first comes the actual stuff that fuels our body ... carbs!
God I think it is a great message to eat healthy raw foods but to go on about the enzymes, that's just moot science, and it makes people obsessed with 100% raw and overeat nuts/seeds/oils is not a healthy thing at all.
Hi Ani! I had a question for you. Soups is one thing that seems difficult in raw foodism. IF you were to heat raw soup, just a little... how long would that be? Just to take the chill off. Thank you!
@jaakizamazin Sometimes I use tomatoes, herbs and blended celery, carrots (optional) and warm it while stirring often for a few minutes. As long as you don't exceed ~118 degrees then u aren't denaturing the proteins and u retain most nutrients.
Thank you for posting this video. I'm a big fan of yours. Wow, you were in San Diego in June! Are there any more visits to SD for the near future? I would like to attend events that I can hear your talk or cooking demonstrations some day:)
One more question, about this Cashew Kream, does this stay well as a topping on cupcakes/cakes (regular and gluten free)?
I know some people use Tofutti (Soy Cream Cheese) as a frosting on cakes but not everybody around me likes that. Thank you.
@kaerunohime yes yes yes. i'm in San Diego again Thurs-Fri for TV appearance on FOX around 8.50am on Friday morning. please watch for me if you're around a TV fri morning. Cashew Kream is a great option for frosting, and my chocolate pudding with dates, avocado, cacao is soooo good as frosting too. i skip processed products, especially soy, it makes me break out in a few minutes flat! food intolerance. :) thanks for watching.

@sicosico
? was your comment supposed to refute anything that i said? all it does is add additional information without offering any counterpoint.
my point: enzymes are not alive
your point: enzymes are better absorbed when denatured, stomach acid denatures

@LordAngus1992 try eating raw chicken, pork and beef!! it is more bioavilable when denatured by heat, your body can not digest it without it

I love it, I am going raw in September as an experiment. It seems a little overwhelming but I am gonna go for it. I will definitely make this.
