@chefawkes Well as for want of a better term, an 'Englishman' The wire happens to be not just my favourite television show, but my most treasured piece of culture. Im guessing your an 'American' form your complete lack of empathy for another culture. You also wont get the irony in that statement for the same reasons, and on and on it goes...
"Im guessing your an 'American' form your complete lack of empathy for another culture."
wow. im surprised someone who considers the wire their most treasured piece of culture, would make such an ignorant generalization. First of all, im not american. im an ethiopian who grew up in america but lived most of my life in canada. so your already wrong. second, how does believing that brits would have a hard time following the show's dialogue make me "lack of empathy"? the wire uses a lot slang.
Ok first there was no mention of slang in your comment, which made it sound like you meant we could not grasp the shows concepts etc, but i over reacted so my bad, sorry. The wire uses lots of slang, and i think most people would have a hard time at first, but you learn it by osmosis, i found that to be part the fun ;)
Plus i dont really think that about Americans, which is why i mentioned it was ironic that after my statement i would be posting that. Its not Americans i hate, its Ethiopian Canadians (joke)
On the 13th may 1978, young woman spotted hunched over at the side of a country road. Got out of his vehicle and walked over to her. The call was then cut off and the next day, 1 grotesquely mutated bodies were found next to a truck with it's headlights still on. The next day he watched youtube adn then zombies killed him! Post this to 10 videos or else zombies will kill you 2!!!!!!
With regards to the heavy use of slang, I tend to watch my DVD with the English subtitles on, I find that helps.

i meant the urban slang and the hardcore b'more accent, like the way bodie and snoop speak. regular americans have a hard enough time getting it.

If people watch two or more episodes, it is fairly easy to catch on. Just gotta put in the effort.
