  • With regards to the heavy use of slang, I tend to watch my DVD with the English subtitles on, I find that helps.

  • you're a good man, david simon.

  • popular? i doubt most have even heard of it.

  • It has a popular cult stauts, much like Hendrix and Hicks. We cotton on to all your good shit here

  • i didn't know they watched the wire in britain. can't believe they even understood it.

  • nah the fundamental point of the wire exists every where .

  • i meant the urban slang and the hardcore b'more accent, like the way bodie and snoop speak. regular americans have a hard enough time getting it.

  • If people watch two or more episodes, it is fairly easy to catch on. Just gotta put in the effort.

  • im from Finland and its no bother understanding snoop or bodie or avon or whoever.

only sometimes i have trouble understanding intoxicated bunk, but i know its something about pussy.

  • Snoop is the hardest to understand for sure

  • @chefawkes Well as for want of a better term, an 'Englishman' The wire happens to be not just my favourite television show, but my most treasured piece of culture. Im guessing your an 'American' form your complete lack of empathy for another culture. You also wont get the irony in that statement for the same reasons, and on and on it goes...

  • "Im guessing your an 'American' form your complete lack of empathy for another culture."

wow. im surprised someone who considers the wire their most treasured piece of culture, would make such an ignorant generalization. First of all, im not american. im an ethiopian who grew up in america but lived most of my life in canada. so your already wrong. second, how does believing that brits would have a hard time following the show's dialogue make me "lack of empathy"? the wire uses a lot slang.

  • Ok first there was no mention of slang in your comment, which made it sound like you meant we could not grasp the shows concepts etc, but i over reacted so my bad, sorry. The wire uses lots of slang, and i think most people would have a hard time at first, but you learn it by osmosis, i found that to be part the fun ;)

  • Plus i dont really think that about Americans, which is why i mentioned it was ironic that after my statement i would be posting that. Its not Americans i hate, its Ethiopian Canadians (joke)

  • lol fair enough. but i did make my correction and specified i was actually talking about the slang on my other post.

  • I love the wire, he should write another drama set in the mean streets of glesga!

  • I could listen to David Simon talk about The Wire all freakin day. Thank you mister Simon:I
