For the sake of thoroughness, the law Obama opposed was the Illinois Born Alive Infants Protection Act, while he was still a state senator. That doesn't make it any better, of course, but that is why the record states it passed the US Senate unanimously. Apparently, Obama was the only one to speak out against the bill in the Illinois legislature.

The law DID NOT just say "Section 1: babies born alive should be protected" and that's the end of it, and everyone who opposes it is evil. Very powerful post. Not only does Obama believe in this, but he wants to impose laws on religiously affiliated hospitals that refuse to perform abortions. Those laws force the hospitals to kill babies even if it's against every aspect of their heart and soul. It's bad enough to allow people to do it that want to, but to force people to do it that don't want to? Maybe his own belief should have happened to him.

I understand that this bill was important, but Abortion after 12 weeks (3 months) is now illegal, and a baby cannot survive outside of the womb until a minimum of 24 weeks (6 months) Unless there are dire circumstances such as the mothers life is in grave danger, second and third trimester abortions are illegal and any doctor who could murder a live born baby is a monster and should rot in hell.

Abortion IS legal during all 9 months in the U.S., under Roe v. Wade. While the wording says only until viability, there's a clause stating the exception to be in cases when the mother's "health" is threatened. Later decisions have interpreted mom's "health" to include mental, financial, emotional health. SO if you can find a Dr. who'll do it, you can get an abortion ANY time & the law will protect you as long as you claim the baby's birth threatened your emotional (or whatever) health.

I think we should just limit abortions to rape victoms and people who have health proplems with pregnancy. it would reduce federal funding and greatly reduce the abortion raight in the United States.
