  • not that good

  • Good serve,

  • Its ugly but good!

  • is that what you said to her last night?

  • :) .

  • its good, jst u need more dip on the backswing and follow through :D

  • Looks like the fundamentals are good. IMO I would slightly extend the left arm higher and slightly lower the right shoulder. Also relax the muscles a little more. There are so many forms so it's really bias to give any opinions. I usually just focus on the results from the ball:angle, height, spin, and velocity vs recovery. Looks like you can't really hurt your arm with that form. Keep practicing.

  • thst is shit

  • dont you mean, that is the shit

  • no i think he meant u play like shit

  • what would he know anyways, he bloody aussie!

  • oi aussies are kickass

  • io io io aussie aussie aussssieee

  • its aussie aussie aussie oi oi oi

    hahahahaha better luck next time

  • u look like u could play some serious D3 tennis. Did u ever play college ball?

  • nah bro, never played college ball. D3 tennis? what is that?

  • ur losing power in ur core... u should probably coil for a little longer then push off ur right leg and rotate through a little faster...

credentials: I am a 3.5 player from oregon and have been playing tennis for 6 years

  • wat the fuck. why would u post this...u have an ugly ass serve. fucking club playin bitch. and yes that was a foot fault

  • do you feel better now? or would you like to cry a bit more?

  • foot fault!

  • yeah, clearly it is a foot fault by the time ball hits the fence.

  • ur racket comes first than the toss.. im not a pro.. just following whats on the book :D

  • They should get some new zealanders in to the grand slams

  • that would be wickard :)

  • Not bad at all. I think that the motion could be a lot smoother though. Try looking at Federer's serve in slow motion.

  • You've got a really sweet serve. Good job!

  • The beginning motion looks unnatural and stiff. You don't even have to change any motion just RELAX.

Good news is that the meat of the serve is very good - the grip, the knee bend, the shoulder rotation, the ball toss.

Now just work on getting a little more explosiveness out of your serve - you should be able to jump high enough to land on your front foot with the back foot way up in the air.

  • i concur with your comments, you've got me thinking and doing!!

  • when she has finished breast feeding you i will.

  • bro, here's a few dollars to buy some glasses and make like a tree.

  • I like you to serve with new balls because old balls are so easy to serve like that.

  • doesnt make that much difference with newer balls.

  • great serve but when i serve i do a full rotation on my arm and it gives me more spin and power on my serves

  • You have a sweet serve! Love that "pop" sound! Do you play for a high school/college?

  • your technique es very good sincerely

  • lol wow those little pre-teenagers who just learned crap, all he has for comebacks is just slang analogies and cuss words haha he has no comeback whatsoever

  • no, he means moving the back foot up to be side to side with the front foot like what Roddick does which I suppose could help transfer weight, but that's not really what he was talking about. I used to do this because I could push off a little more with my back foot and get more power, but now I just leave the back foot back because it simplifies my serve and makes it easier to control and fix.

  • I see a slight resemblance to Henin's serve where in the beginning he starts with his hands above waist level.

  • he could do better and have a serve that has potential if he did

  • so you're telling me people who serve like roddick don't have potential? its not like roddick has the biggest serve in history or anything...

  • there just isnt as much potential in this serve

  • that makes no sense. when you say potential, do you mean possibility for improvement? because anyone's serve can dramaticly change and get much better. for all we know, this guy might have changed his stratedgy and started relying on a kick serve 2 days after this video was made. he might've started with a wider stance and started toeing up. you can't judge a person's "potential" based on watching their serve.

  • dude r u dumb, im saying thre isnt much potential in this serve, and now ur talking about relying on kick seres? dude im talking about this serve, oh so i cant judge by wtching their serve, then wat do i do watch their backhand?

  • you're saying that theres not much potential right? well i mean exactly what i said. you can't judge potential by watching him serve. when you say potential, i think you're referring to "possibility for improvement" so just by watching this, you can't judge how much better his serve might become in the future.

  • yeah but there is a limit for this kind of serve because it's not the right form

  • idk but i hate this serve, i like using a full swing motion like sampras, it feels natural and helps so much to get it in and faster with power, ur just starting the motion from the middle of the circle, i make a full circle

  • It's called the "abbreviated backswing" and it works well. I personally use a full swing so to keep my form smooth and consistent, but you don't have to. Of course Roddick does it, but also Patrick Rafter and others too. It actually makes your serve more effective because it is hard for the returner to find a good rythm for your serve. This guy's serve looks good, he just needs to start loosening up more.

  • yeah let me cut it to this, his motion looks like a JV girls coach taught him his serve

  • Just because it looks "strange" doesn't mean it's bad. I've seen some people playing in state tournaments with pretty funky serves (a lot funkier than this) and were still pretty good. The only thing I think really looks weird here is that he is not getting coiled as much as he could and bringing the racket all the way back, but that doesn't matter as much as getting the serve in consistently and strongly. If it actually works in a match, then keeping it is probably better than "correcting" it

  • state? im talking about nationals

  • moving one foot forward? thats horrible..only noobs on my teams do that, its not accurate all the time, keep ur foot in place and do the serve, u get more motion if ur doing it right, real good pros never do the foot in front, most do either in place or move the right foot behind the left, not infront!

  • he never said stepping past the front foot. He said move it up to be "side by side" with the front foot while taking the racket back. A lot of people do this (Roddick for one), but it is certainly not necessary.

  • roddick does not, he keeps it there now cuz he changed his serve, and leaving both foot on the ground keeps more control and keeps ur serve the same and accurate cuz moving ur foot is never the same, such as federer or djokovic

  • yes roddick did change recently, but also look at Moya, Baghdatis, and Davydenko. They all move the back foot forward. I'm not saying it's better, but it's not worse either. And Federer and Djokovic don't have the best serves. They are extremely good, but as far as pure serving goes, they are not the best. I however have found that I personally am more consistent by not moving my back foot because it simplifies my form and I don't do well with things being too complicated.

  • it doesn't have to be. Many pros in the ATP leave their back foot behind until they initiate their swing. Federer and Sampras are good examples. Also Djokovic, Agassi, and James Blake all leave their back foot back until they initiate the stroke from the back-scratch position. Watch Federer. His foot will slide forward and follow his body AFTER he has already started his swing. Roddick uses the step forward that you talk of. Either is ok.

  • a flat that can hit a fence without bouncing twice is good enough xD

  • This guy's serve is pretty good actually. Someone said he's been playing 8 months...? I don't think so at all. His style (for my taste) might be a bit compact/tight in the motion sense, but I'm probably talking aesthetically more than anything... and that does not count if you're being effective. My only personal preference and advise would be to relax even more, loosen up and just let it fly...I think your already good serve will be upgraded to lethal...

  • u need to use your entire body to get more power on the serve.

  • hmmmm great serve in real life that would be fast... but yeah u dont seem to drop ur racquet enough really or seem to rotate but still a really nice serve.

  • Somehow, the video of a serve makes the serve seem much weaker than it really is. In reality, I'm guessing you have one of the hardest serve to return. Keep it up and don't worry about suggestions. Everybody's got their own style.

  • yes, i agree. people keep dissing your serve but it's excellent. for some reason, people think a flashy serve is stronger, but the more the flashy the weaker. you're on the right track. power will just come from twisting harder and loading heavier. (as you probably already know)

i don't agree with most of the comments here about extending your arm more or drop your racket enough or anything. just keep it up, it's simple, it's good, less mistakes will happen the simpler it is.

  • cheers mate, the serve is very reliable and effective in a match and the consistancy of it can be the difference in winning a close match. im currently working on more top spin of the serve, same everything except the grip is slightly different.

  • yea and point of contacts a bit diff too. i used to hold a different grip for my 2nd serve, but i've recently changed it so i can add pace. i hold the same grip as my first serve now.

  • A bit shit aint it?? Not much power really, you need to work on your technique i think. Not enough body rotation, plus you're a skinny bastard with no power. check out my serve

    regards the huntmiester.

  • it looks good has good contact good speed threw the ball but id say try to get a bit more into the court to get a bit more power but overall it looks like a great serve

  • u don't happen to live in berkeley do u?? I've been to that court too!

  • hey, no i dont live in berkeley, they run ITF tournaments here once a year, marlborough/blenheim, new zealand.

  • not bad. kinda reminds me off santoro with the backswing.

  • beautiful courts. where is it... the court i went to play sucked, the ground has holes and cracks. the net is dying

  • u have like a weird hand movement if u try to put ur arm behind ur ass and then get it up behind ur neck and swing the ball u could have more power

  • dude your motion is not that good

you could have a better serve if you extend your arm more

  • dude i struggle to comprehend your comment in detail, could you care to elaborate more?

  • i was talking about your back swing..its not extended enough

  • your toss is behind and your back swing is too small to generate power serve and consistence serve. Great swing though. GO FORWARD MORE!

  • Good point, and it does im prove the serve only if the toss and jump is high. Thumbs up.

  • it actually looks pretty good ... dont know what the results are though

  • what is the purpose of this video??

  • what is the purpose of your comment??

  • the dumb ass is someone who doesnt know sqwat. the serve isnt a full fluent motion like every other pro. but its a good serve man. ive taken a few bodies down with it =)

  • your website is illegal and i have notified the federal government authorities of your country to come and arrest you. they have your traces from you tube.

  • Can you say foot fault?

  • no i cant say it. do i look like one of these guys who takes a flying leap in court and argues foot faults. =P

  • What is your service speed?

  • not sure, i would say 160/170ks?

  • Bring your racket from behind your body and if you flick your wrist it will also add speed and power to the ball!

  • dead right, been praticing that a lot lately and its a great shot. thanks.

  • looks weird how u do that specific part where u have the ball under the racquet before u toss

  • yeah it looks retarded and didnt notice it till on the camera. i dont do it anymore now!

  • oh okay, your serve has good motion, i just watched a nadal video and like right after he bends his knees, he brings his right feet to make its heels touch the left feet, then jumps fast, it adds so much more power cuz i tried it

  • need to work on your form but at least you add some spin to it

  • the form is basic and effective and there is a lot going on with the serve than relised. i agree that there is some tidy up on the form but not imperative to the delivery of the serve. theres is acutally quite a bit of top and side spin which is generated by the wrist, camera does quite pick that up.

  • if u toss the ball more infront of you and when you hit it fall with your wait infront for added power (15-20mph)+

  • Thats a calculated guess? otherwise yeah you will add speed to your serve. the ball is at the minimum distance in front, it could do with a slight adjustment.

  • hey,hattsternx

yr serve is very natural and nice.

how nice if i could have a serve like yours!my serve is just unnatural at all!

  • hey thanks, yeah i just started learning to serve this way, it was fairly easy to pick up and its uncomplicated. second serve is the same but has more topspin.

  • your service motion is nice. you get some good pop on it. it reminds me of nicole vaidisova's. dont take that the wrong way though lol

  • yeah its fuckign retarded

  • wow a second comment, my serving technique must be good enough to tick you off the second time. hahaha

  • fucking gay serve dude. Serve like "crazy Goran" that better, this is just gay... hahahahhaha

  • you posted such a gay comment dude. comment like "crazy Goran" that better, this is just gay...

  • oh i forgot to add the. hahahahahaha to the last comment. - im sure with your intelligence you can work it out.

  • nice...

  • wow..hater

  • ok doki! thanks

  • haha thanks man! i needed a laugh!

  • Follow throug whit your swing.. don't stop it..

  • dont stop your swing

  • nice uncomplicated action

  • thanks mate, thats true. the less complicated it is then less chance for it to go wrong. since simplifying the action i get lot higher percentage of first serves in and the second serve with more top is almost flawless.

  • very nice, Chris! :)
