I Agree, Chakotay and Seven we're so WRONG, The Doctor and Seven we're perfect just as Janeway and Chakotay we're but stupid Paramount screwed that up -.-
Apparently the actors of Janeway and Chakotay weren't always that friendly. Not that they hated each other- they just didn't have the chemistry and I think got on each others nerves.
I, being a Mulgrew fan, blame Robert Beltran. I am, however, biased, because Kate Mulgrew has beautiful eyes.
His program includes McCoy's papers and personality profile, along with others. Which is why McCoy's lines turn up all over the place. I like the little throw-away details in trek which turn up years later.
this is a good song but i felt the last 2 mins could fo used another verse instead of repeat or being removed some but it is still a good vid over all and outside of mccoy this is my fav medical officer
Beverly doesn't "badger" Jean Luc, but she does gently urge him to see if the reasoning behind a particular prime directive for a specific situation is faulty. And if Jean Luc doesn't agree, she accepts that; she never tries to force her thoughts on anyone; she's too gentle for that.
And the most important of all rules, as Jean Luc himself once told Wesley in *The First Duty* is the truth, not the prime directive. Beverly sure understands that one very well. She's a smart lady.
And the episode "Symbiosis"? She finds out about the desception half-way through and gets slightly hostile toward the Brekkans and tries to get Picard to inferfere with their world to change their culture for about half the episode and has to have the Directive explained to her at the end.
True, she does feel a tad hostile toward the Brekkians, but she can't really be blamed for that because the Brekkians prove to be arrogant & exploitive; they are even snide with some of the crew as well as the Onarians.
And she really is not interested in totally changing their culture; she just wants to end the exploitation.
No one "had to" explain the PD to her; Jean Luc actually told her that although he did what he felt he needed to do; he understood Beverly's upset feelings.
Poor Bev, I re-watched that scene in the turbolift near the end with Beverly and Jean Luc and Beverly looked so, so unhappy I wanted to put my arm around her. Jean Luc could see how unhappy she was also. I suspect she had a few nightmares about the Brekkians and the Onarans' suffering.
Also, although she was very unhappy at the thought of the Onarans suffering terribly, she did accept Jean Luc's decision in the end without arguing. Beverly does know when it's time to back off.
True, she's not infallible; she's made mistakes. But one wonderful thing about her is that she owns up to her mistakes.
And I love that she was such a good mother for her darling son; they made an excellent mother-son team.
I DO like one of its best characters...Beverly Crusher. Bev is five billions times better than the dumb "doctor." Bev is brilliant, serious, dignified, lovely, interesting, intelligent.
They showed loads of creativity creating Beverly Crusher. I loved her wonderful relationship with her son and her patients.
She badgers Picard to ignore the prime directive because she doesn't believe it is right several times, she doesn't always understand that one even though it is the most important of all the rules (though I tend to agree).
Let's just pin it down to different intrests where characters are concerned.
I have no problem with Wesley, he had his flaws but was better than most of the 'hated' characters on TV.
I'm glad you're not a Wesley basher. I think Wesley is sweet; he and Bev make a great mother-son team.
It was so wonderful and refreshing to see a widowed mom in a TV series for a change after all the overused widowed-dad characters that glutted TV universe, esp. in the 1980's.
It's a shame that DS9 reverted back to the old single dad storyline and in addition had an overglut of boy children; they should have had Sisko's wife still be alive and maybe the doctor or engineer or something.
Jennifer was still alive, in the Mirror Universe at least. She lived long than the Ben of that reality.
How was Voyager's midical depatment Male dominated? The Doctor was a Hologram and doesn't have ANY gender, he only looks male because he was based on his Inventor.
That's good...but isn't the "mirror" universe supposed to be where the characters are evil and cave in to all their tempations.
The fact that "The" doctor looked male and sounded male was male-oriented; why could they not have had a female hologram?
Not to mention the rather silly Bashier in DS9.
These shows are set in the TWENTY-FOURTH century, not the 1950's, so it's really ridiculous to have the tired old formula of two or so token females among a horde of males.
Agreed; they should have had 7 of 9 be older, more like Beverly Crusher or Deanna Troi and not so "sexy" looking.
It does get tiring when too many women on TV are young and "sexy" looking; they need more older, real-looking women on TV.
I love that Beverly was real-looking, middle-aged, and that they didn't try to make her look "sexy." Ditto Guinan, Ro, and Tasha. Those were swell female characters you took seriously.
Deanna started off weak there, but improved as the series went on.
Interesting that you bring that up, The Doctor was thought up by Jeri Taylor who is the female script writer and producer for Voyager, I think the Doctor was chosen as a Male image because The Captain was Female, the head engineer was female, later on in the series the head of Astrometrics was female.
Also take into the fact that there wasn't many leading females in the early 90's, It was a male lead era other than a few minor programs (Buffy ect) I think this is why the Doctor was male.
3 females out of what...a crew of 9? Would it be too much if for once, esp. in the 24th century, there was a crew where females outnumbered males or where there was a roughly even margin, which would be a more realistic scenario in the 24th century?
Yeah, it is kind of a pity that Jeri could not think of a more creative doctor than the dull, insipid, wooden "Doctor." Besides, the only thing he seemed adept at was annoying the rest of the crew.
True, which is a pity...the late 1980's and early 90's marked a very male-dominated era. It was documented in Susan Faludi's famous book *Backlash,* which devoted a whole chapter on the male-dominated late 80's/early 90's.
Thank the stars shows like *Roseanne* held on and became popular.
I was so, so, SO glad when Beverly came back by season 3 & they added Guinan, Ro, Alyssa, & Keiko on this show; that did offset some of the male bias in the sci-fi uni.
And I still think they should have had Jennifer still be alive even in the real, regular universe. It also would have been nice if they had a son and daughter to even the genders out some; there are too many boy children and not enough girl children in too many sci-fi shows.
I was very glad when TNG had the O'Briens have a daughter.
He was after they gave him the ability to end his own program. That is what allowed him the freedom he wanted... at least a little. Then the mobile emitter allowed him to be and go where and whatever he wanted.
I'm a doctor, not a YouTube video...

"I experience no pain, nor fear of death"
Oh he has fear of death alright...in Renaissance Man, his program is nearly lost and gave his "death speech" to the crew on the holodeck.
and he briefly felt pain in Flesh & Blood
Maybe this was before he started to advance his programming to be more human?

The Doctor and Seven belonged together.
First Seven of Nine was meant to be gay, and have a romantic link to Janeway (which they GOT RID OF damn paramount)
Then they spent 3 years building this amazing chemistry between Seven and the Doctor, and throw it down the recycler by pairing her with CHAKOTAY
WTH!

vegeta002 3 years ago
No, I think she understands why REASONABLE rules exist. She's a smart lady and a very classy one. She's intense, sensitive, serious, yet funny.
I love also that she has multiple interests like dancing and plays.
She also is a swell single mom to her lovely son Wesley (do by chance find him "annoying" also?)
She is multi-dimensional. She's warm and not afraid to cry openly, yet can be tough also.
She's loads better than "The doctor" any day.
Coryraisa 3 years ago

That hackenyed old line was so trite and stupid. I can never imagine dignified, intelligent Beverly Crusher saying anything so foolish.
Beverly was nice and original, not a rip-off of another character. She was swell as a single mom and as a real woman.
In reality, ppl. can be fired for saying something like this.
It's a shame that DS9 and Voyager reverted back to a male-dominated medical profession for shows that were said to be in the 24 century.
