I hope I'm not offending anyone but I found "MONO" whilst surfing for "MOGWAI", who I like very much as well. I am happy that MONO keep it all purely instrumental and I am fortunate that I have discovered them :-)
i love this song, but i really wish someone would post L'america on youtube. that's my personal favorite, it is of Under The Pipal Tree, so is this song.
my favourite song by mono, and one of my favourite songs ever! that's the trippiest drum beat, and the harmony is just perfect, like classical music. god, what a dream! *.*
I don't know, but my take is, judging by the creepiness of the music, it might signify a specific time when the kidnapper strikes. I know Colombia, South America at one point was ranked the highest in the world for kidnapping, especially kidnapping women.
Well, with Godspeed You... on a hiatus (I consider them the best b/c of the scale they did it on), I wouldn't say you're wrong, but close. Close in that Mogwai is still doing it and Explosions...stil have not made a bad album yet.
Im into other bands like Isis, Pelican, Godspeed you black emperor, red sparrowes, explotions in the sky, mogwai, cult of luna, etc... this is my first Mono song I hear and its just beautiful music, melody, ambient, its just soooo nice... it sounds a little like Red Sparrowes... nice nice stuff.. Im buying the album like... now!
This is exceptional. My first Mono song. Been a Mogwai fan for years, a friend got me into EITS this year, and have been meaning to check out Mono. Which album should i start with?
I am so happy that this type of post-rock is particularly unpopular. The average person doesn't have time to listen to a 6, 7, or 20 minute song. When I tell people the bands I listen to, they think I'm stupid that I'm not listening to popular music. Post-rock bands are being picked up sometimes for TV commercials and sports related intros. On Thanksgiving, Explosions in The Sky was picked to play during the intro to the NFL games. They also did last years MLB postseason intro.
i totally agree with you, its the same thing with my mates as well, they think i'm mental..a friend actually told me "i cant do this artsie music" (we're in engineering)..lol..but i wouldnt trade it for the world..btw who dyou like better, EITS or Mono? My vote will always be Mono, they feel like a nicer, sweeter version of Mogwai..and yet so immense in their own way it takes my breath away.
i saw MONO in december and before i did i prefered EITS, but after i prefered MONo...then a few weeks ago i saw ETIS and they were even better live than MONO...however, i still can't come to a decision...i think they need to stop being put along side eachother as simelar bands cause they really don't sound anything alike...that said, they are both still two of the greatest bands ever. bar none.
The ticket and my bus tickets are hanging on the wall in front of my desk. I'm going to see them in 3 days. Everyone else who has seen them came back as if intoxicated or high. I hope I come back with thesame experience.
I first heard this song about five years ago. Contrary to what my dormmate said, I believed that these sounds were produced by synthesizers, not strings. My apologies Ashman.
you know i'm kind of a like well i wouldn't say impatient but i hate to lose and i blush in a second.. but mono really softens the brain well most post-rock do.. i really like mono.. i hope i can see them 23rd november in Denmark..
instead of listening u should feel it lay down and close ur eyes visualise the music. feel it. that is what mono is about to stop thinking but to just be. simple aye:)
thay are playing houston tonight, i plan on going to see them. the only thing i dont like about that is that they are playing with metal bands. im afraid that they might get booed or something

I saw them in Cambridge,MA at the Middle East. And the same, they played with a bunch of metal bands, but you know what? More than half the crowd was there for Mono. lol Practically everyone left when they were done. Sucks for the headliner.
Speaking of M.E., I have no idea why people kept talking there. In a concert you cant have any other thing of any importance at that time slot so you can't have a phone call, receive or type a text message. You cant even have a comment to orally convey to your buddy standing by you. After the concert do whatever you want... I cant stand people making any sort of noise but I rarely seen a concert at ME where people behaved this way. It is disgusting, inhuman. Do not speak, whisper or laugh!
Oh man. That pissed me off too, but I was too into the music to let it get me. But I could hear it in between songs. The talking coming from the back. Very annoying.
I suppose more impatient and quick-blooded people wouldn't understand the utter grace and self-control it takes to create music like this. Many people find this blend of austere atmosphere and softer, bleeding chords pleasant and enlightening, for good reason too.
Don't get me wrong though; I love nearly all music. I still party up while listening to Manowar or Captain Jack, E Nomine, Mozart, or Blind Melon. I can simply enjoy the sweet platitudes of gentle pieces like this immensely as well.
I listen to tons of music that requires the same amount of patience as Mono, many of the music coming from the same genre. I just dont find Mono amazing compared to some other post-rock bands.
to be honest, Mono never really did it for me. they're a cool band, but I've only really liked two songs by them, "the kidnapper bell" being one of them.
