Hi there! ARe u working at Kids College? I heard from them and got an offer, was wondering what ur thoughts were if u were working there ? Great view by the way..better than my 1st apt... . :)) Cheers!
Hi, I was looking around for videos of bundang apts and stumbled on your vid. I was wondering if you liked bundang or not. I really want a bundang location (I am still waiting on my placement) so I wanted to know how it is living there. Do you like Songpa, Seoul better? Bundang is more of a suburban area, correct? I heard it's less polluted and it is safe & clean.
If you could get back to me, that would be great. THANKS SO MUCH =)
It just depends on what you're looking for...if you want more lowkey and less pollution, Bundang's ur place. If you want to be closer to the action, maybe slightly smaller apts., then go for Songpa. S. Korea in general is safe. Check out my first apt video to see what my Bundang apt looked like. Hope this helped.
Thanks for the great feedback! I feel a lot better about the hair situation now. To say the least I am extremely picky about my hair. I have been with my current stylist for almost 8 years now, so this will be like starting all over for me. If its okay with you, I would like to stay in touch with you as I get closer to my relocation to Korea. You have been very helpful and I truly appreciate your time. Thanks again. - DRF
Thank you for responding so quickly to my post. I do have another hair question ... I currently have a short hair cut similar to what Halle Berry used to wear. Do you know of any African American females who have had their hair cut and relaxed in the Korean salons? If so, how were the results? Thanks again! - DRF
I haven't seen too many..But many of the Korean men have cute haircuts that I could c on myself! So Im sure sum1 here can do the cut. My Korean salon has relaxers sent in fm the States. Whatever deep conditioner they put in my hair, has left me not needing a perm forthe past 7 months! They know what they're doing. & if u don't trust Koreans w/ ur hair, u can make connections 2 get on Base & get hair done. I'm thinking of getting the "Brooke" (Harlem Heights) cut...I'll let u kno how it goes.
Great video!! I am a African American female who is seriously considering teaching English in South Korea. How has your experience been so far as an African American female? How do you maintain your hair care? How are African Americans viewed by Koreans? Did you use a recruiter? If so, which one?
Thanks! My experience here has been wonderful!! Experience as a black person definitely does differ...but has mainly been positive. Most convos start off w/ Obama. Outside of that, I just get stared at, out of curiousity. u'll get used to it tho. The kids make comments about ur hair and question if ur fm Africa. I actually get my hair done by Koreans. There's a shop here, thats trained by Dudley. Google "online tefl placement" for my recruiter. lemme kno if u have nymore questions!
It sure is...They just opened up DIRECTLY across the street from me! Dangerous. Glad ya like the new setup, getting a couch next week, so look out for the newest video. Miss ya!!
Hello, I will be teaching at Avalon in Nowon-gu. I'm a little nervous and excited at the same time. I see that you are from TN. I'm from TN also. I was just wondering, if you have any idea, how far away is nowon-gu from gangnam-gu? i'm going there by myself so I know no one lol
Hey! Well Nowon is in the NE of Seoul and Gangnam is like the SE. I'd say maybe an hr by metro?? I hear Nowon is good for hiking and scenery. What part of TN are u fm??? I came fm UTKnox, but originally fm NC.
Cool! Most ppl live at least 40 min by metro from central seoul. A lot of ppl go to Itaewon (foreigner section), Gangam, or Hongdae (university area) for nightlife. These are metro stops w/in Seoul. Look up Seoul Metro Map and you can get an idea of where everything is at
I have been thinking about going to teach in South Korea. I big that is stopping or atleast slowing me down is friends and family. I feel leaving them behind would make me feel bad. How did you deal with that kind of thing?
Well I'm used 2 spending tm away fm fam. As I set up a gd phone system, I was fine. If u buy a Vonage house phone b4 cming & bring it w/ u, u can get unlimited calls 2 home as if u were still in the States. My transition was easy thanks 2 connections I made thru YouTube & Facebook b4 arriving. I made a solid grp of new friends & still call my old ones almost every day. Lastly, I came out here 4 myself 4 personal growth, free travel, & just a new experience. So almost nothing cld stop me.
I actually interviewed with Avalon for the bundang barnch. What do you think about the company?
