  • Yes its a Weslyan hymn, undoubtedly God driven and another great from the pens of the Wesleys, but Whitlfield was an amazingly talented preacher & exponent of the gospel. That's what I meant. God bless you.

  • All soldiers of Christ arise! As an RC, I find this more inspiring than many of our own, both in the words and the music.

  • I love this! I saw the Maddy Prior Band at The Fairport Convention Folk Festival in about 1982. That was many years before I became a Christian and I guess she probably didn't sing this! Charles Wesley is, as far as i'm concerned, just about the best Christian lyricist there ever was-"the panoply of God" AWESOME, better get your dictionary out!!!!

  • Hawkmoon ,thank you,I have just listened to this and it's right up my street. It seems Charles Wesley and Maddy were made for each other ( not forgeting the Carnival Band). This looks like another CD I'll be buying and transferring to my ipod. Thanks again

  • Fantastic voice. fantastic interpretation.

  • An awesome, awesome hymn - Whitfield was a genius..... rise up Christian folk of Britain - reclaim our radical Protestant fervour. Rally round the banner and stand fast in these dangerous days.

  • This was written by Charles Wesley - who was undoubtably a genius. So many of his hymns, written around 250 years, ago are still perfectly singable and haven't become as anachronistic as many newer hymns.

I can't think of any hymns by George Whitfield - who although a great preacher and a friend of the Wesley brothers isn't really known as a hymn writer.
