Scenes like the one depicted in this movie are a reminder of the levels of cruelty in punishment that existed prior to the English bill of rights of 1689. The current involvement in the Middle East is being used to push the western world back towards severity in punishment. Right now it is punishment by deprivation. They are pushing for increased use of the death penalty however. On what basis? They want to save money on corrections. Greed leads eltitists to feed on the poor.
Um.. You know there's such thing as audio right? Why wouldnt you include the audio from this? Did you think we didnt want to hear it or something? Ugh, i think people should be required to take a mandatory video editing/filming class before theyre allowed to post videos to youtube. I see too many videos on here that were ruined by a novice, careless, lazy , or dumb uploader who knows nothing about making a decent video.
This has got to be the most universally reviled & yet talked about scene in any movie ~ the tongue being ripped out ~ "Mark of the Devil" is still a cult favorite
Dont know about America in this respect, but in europe witchhunt was NOT done by the church!!! It was done by justice itself, following general superstition and fear!! In this objective "witchhunt"is very much alive nowadays only we named it different, namely anti-terrorist actions!! Causing the big brother is watching you attitude of justice, extreme measurements to all who want to fly on a plane and so on!! The witchhunt and executions ended only in the early 19th century in europe!!!
Just to ruin the fun for all the lame dipshits watching this, most witches were actually hanged. You see people back then considered firewood a precious commodity, the same way we wouldn't needlessly leave lots of electronic equipment on to get a nasty bill a month later. Since these people didn't have central heating they needed every bit of firewood to keep warm in the winter. Wasting lots of it to burn a witch was unthinkable when hanging her did the job.
Its a poor movie with very poor tricks. No smoke, no soot in the face of the victims when they are put on the fire, the clothes are not burning... ...it is too clear for a viewer that all is fake.
I can think of a few people who still deserve this. This never happened of course but Hollywood crap, people were burnt and they still are in cars which catch on fire in accidents.
Heute gehört die Hexenverbrennung wieder eingeführt.Es gibt genug von diesen Weibern.Nach der Folterung auf den Scheiterhaufen und langsam verbrennen.
DID-Damsel in distress was a shorthand "film term" to describe scenes of women in danger-tied to RR tracks, saw mill conveyors and piles of burnable wood. Many films like this one are just an excuse for such scenes. Then again
Maggie Gyllenhaal was fantastic bound in "The Secretary" and later in "The Dark Knight"[ just before she was blown-up. Personally, I hope she survived
"Dark Knight". I thought she was great. It's not unusual for comic book characters to outwit Death-] LOL
Yes and why do countries with the death penalty make people pay for the sentenced to spend years on death row when someone could just take them outside and shoot them after the trial? And if they're going to make a big deal about it then why not bring back gladiatorial competions to decide who lives and dies?
The last witch execution in England was in 1684. The practice persisted in Scotland until 1727. The last witch execution in North America was in Salem in 1692. Subsequent witch prosecutions usually ended in acquittal. By then, the belief in witchcraft was regarded as a superstition.
"Medieval" that is when these execution started but this film is set in the eighteen century not in medieval times.
That practice ended in late nineteen century except in Arabic countries where it was later abolished and replaced with either hanging or beheading which are still in use today..
@AniSpectre4 Well it did stopped in middle or late nineteen century during Victorian times - replaced by a hanging in Britain - death sentence abolished in the 1950s in my country.
Although some executions still in use in some countries nowadays they were more humane than in the past.
@DavBlc7 wrong. if you're referring to that case of a "witch" killed for poisoning some man, the sentence was murder, even if she was called a witch. and she wasn't burned at the stake either
@AniSpectre4 actually, it stopped quite close to the civil war started I believe, I might be missinformed, but I am not from the US. Which huntings happened into the mid 1800's, in one or 2 countries, I believe as late as 1870.
@AniSpectre4 they mostly stopped (in europe) in the 18th century, not 19th. the peak was some 400 y ago. it's a common misconception the witch hunts happened in the middle ages, they only started at their very end.
and today you still have them not only in arab countries (easy on the prejudice, DavBlc7), but also in other parts of asia, africa and even in latin america - meaning in LESS DEVELOPED areas of the world. cruelty has nothing to do with (arab) race/ethnicity
@DavBlc7 WTF?!?!?! you said burning was used in arabic countries?! do you know that burning is forbidden in islam (only god uses the fire) and the execution was done only to murders and apostate and there must be at least 4 witness, you should learn more and then talk
"Medieval" that is what these execution started but this film is set in the eighteen century not in medieval times.
That practice ended in late nineteen century except in Arabic countries where it was later abolished and replaced with either hanging or beheading which are still in use today..
"D.i.D." means "damsel in distress". I guess it comes from medieval chivalry. All clips are post are about women in danger. In this case, there was no white knight. There usually is one in mainstream movie, but not in horror movies.
