why the romans enemies (comanded by computer) can promote soldiers (any one: bows, sowrd) to level 1 and 2 just with one bottle of wine in their temple? i have to wait like 10 bottles to promote one genre of soldiers (bow, sword...) Anyone knows if i can do the same like that?

The Settlers III & IV is two of the best games I've ever played, and I prefer IV over III, but these games are so much better than most of the shit being made today. Much more entertaining! Prefer playing them over many other new games.

have you tried running it in compatibilty mode? just right click on the install exe of make a shortcut and right click on that. Go to compatibility and select Windows 95 and apply :P

settlers works, you need to do something first its on google: you update it to 1,6 (you cant start the game before updating) then you download a no cd crack and voila! the game works, just no campaings or vids anymore but better than nothing.

@dfkljh I know this response is incredible late, and I don't even know you this account is still being used, however. I've always been a huge fan of Settlers 3, and recently I rediscovered this game. I have just recently completed the roman campaign, and I've played Lan with friends without any problems, graphics was perfect, sound and gameplay. No music though, My point is that I'm using Win7 64bit, so yes, it works on Win7 :)

@nl3paul3nl Agreed, I like that you kind of upgrade you're soldiers and not just make gold bars to build better soldiers, I think that was a bad touch for the Settlers IV. This game is so much more fun and got better maps too!

@nl3paul3nl I think S3 is just only better in 2-3 ways. No more than that. It is better in more resources, the promotion thing, the gold and you can do a retriement with our troops. In Settlers 4, the bad thing is the few mineral resources, to raise the amry`s power you need squad leaders and promoted soldiers (in settlers 3 you just need many gold) and when you go to battle is like suicide if you don´t win. No retriements. I hate it...
