just wanted to let you know I really appreciate this video =)
some videos just sort of breeze through the basics but you really took your time explaining really well, going into good detail and giving great tips as well~
i notice how relaxed your hands look. Just took my first lesson last week and I'm finding it really difficult to still get the basic of gripping my stick correctly. just pinching it with the thumb and first crease and barely holding it in the other three feels unsupportive
I've been drumming with it in the second joint for about five years now and i have had no problems. Not to mention it is difficult to drum in the first joint with control.
Should i carry on as i am or kerp practicing with the first joint?
@Mrfreedom6642 It depends on how far you plan on taking your drumming. If you are interested in classical percussion, you will eventually be corrected by a teacher. Otherwise, if you are comfortable with the way you do it now, I guess you can keep it. Just don't be surprised if at some point your percussion instructor corrects you.
I've been a percussionist for 4 years but I wish I had seen this video while I was still a beginner. The way I hold sticks and play have become a bad habit due to the way I was taught. Thanks for putting this video up!!

Is it a major problem if you hold it in the second finger crease

@Mrfreedom6642 Try to place it at the first joint. You'll have more control that way.
