That's just it -- in Canada it is *not* illegal to harvest seals. That's why I said you should hold politicians responsible, not fishermen. I don't personally condone the harp seal fishery, but I think it's important to point out that harp seals are not classified as endangered by US Fish & Wildlife. The Newfoundlanders are not (yet) at risk of "slaughtering the very stock [they] depend on". Also, what makes you think America is any better at "managing the population"? How is that relevant?

They don't depend on it. The only people who depend on it are Inuit, those weren't Inuit they were doing it for the money not the food.
The Inuit only kill as many as they need. Not run around with a club in hand whacking every seal they see, and leaving half the body there to go to waste.
The only people allowed to do this should be the Inuit no one else, atleast they take what they need and use the whole animal.
