I had this cassette back in the early 1980's, and I rocked on many a night while I was working midnight shift during college years... I pretended to be Dave (when I was alone, of course I was a nerd) and was singing along with the tape. That was a great concert. Awesome !!!!!!
I first saw them in 1974 in Chicago. We walked in a bit late and they were in the middle of "Demolition Man," I believe from one of the Preservation albums. There was a strobe light flashing and Dave was wearing a white and black striped jacket, plus tie and hat, as I recall.
my first ever Kinks gig, Sept 1979 San Francisco Civiv Auditrorium, the Kinks came running out on platforms, flashpots and lights going wild, and the crowd were on their feet the whole show, opened with Sleepwalker, then Life on the Road, then Permanent Waves, and some Low Budget songs

Dave Davies never got the real credit he deserved as a guitarist even though he practically invented heavy metal with You Really Got Me and All Day And All Of The Night around 64/65. As you can see by this video, the man can jam!
Saw it live 1989 Georgetown University standing on blue plastic in the old gymnasium. The plastic was the type used to cover a baseball field when it rains. They put that down, because 2 beer trucks were serving up 32 ounce Budweisers.
What a BLAST! It was the greatest concert I have ever attended. The entire crowd, went WILD! It seemed like they played forever. I remember being exhausted by the end.

His voice soared all night long, and I could not help but imagine what if the entire Kinks were backing him up tonight - surely his voice would have soared right with them!
@gabrielleutzendorff Let's see if we can reach in deep and find a hint of grey matter in your head. The posts are about the song, the Kinks, the Videos. Yeah, except there's a major flaw in your logic, ScottyBoy. Obama inherited this mess. We've got every president from Reagan (deregulating the banks and making derivatives legal, ignoring urban blight, and wasting billions on a bogus war on drugs, among other things), through George the Turd, to thank for our current predicament. You just like to take the easy way out, when it comes to thinking. If Bush had doled out all of these corporate bailouts, you'd be creaming yourself. Kinks rock tho.
u2b4dumeze, Did you live through the '70s? It's pertinent because you'd recognize parallels to that era. My undergrad major was econ and my master's in government contracting, so thanks for the advice on "thinking." The personal attacks fit your mentality perfectly. Regardless, we're in Low Budget times and when you lose your job, don't forget to blame someone else.
Actually, my undergrad was in Econ, as well, and you know nothing about my mentality, so grow up, and quit pretending to profess about that which you know nothing. Apparently, you don't watch the news. You're just another bandwagon jumper that likes to bitch. Go wave your credentials somewhere else. Like I said, when Bush and Reagan did it, I'm sure you were all applause. Aren't you supposed to be reading some Ann Coulter, or something, right now? Asshole.

@u2b4dumeze You are just another drone as the great Mark Levin calls you. Obama has quadroupled the deficit since he's been in there!! Bush CREATED JOBS ; Obama is totally destroying jobs and the economy. Liberalism has been proven time and time again not to work. Unfortunately and sadly your brainwshd brain will prob never see that. Most people in this great cntry want a FREE market not socialism. Obama is a marxist and on the border of being a communist!!! Too bad they don't play this one more today... Yes, I agree it is relevant, but radio is too dense to venture outside of their boring classic rock playlists...

Too bad they don't play this one more today... Yes, I agree it is relevant, but radio is too dense to venture outside of their boring classic rock playlists...

This song is more relevant than it was when it first came out!!!

The Kinks are supreme masters at addressing timeless issues, frequently in a humorous way.
Low Budget is one those songs.

We are living it today folks. Even my hair is not my own today. Great lyrycs and right on time, this is current anthem.

I adore this! I saw this tour at Universal Amphitheatre back in the day. My boyfriend snagged a pair of "low budget" shoes in the parking lot after the show.
