  • did you see him pick his nose lol

  • 'Low Budget': as true today as it was in 1979.

    We're all on the skids.

    Sigh.

Ray Davies can sure write some songs, can't he?

  • @biminitwst Yes he can!

  • Sing it Ray!

  • lige som mit

  • This song speaks to me on so many levels. "I'm just a cut price person in a low budget land." Aint that the truth

  • I would've loved to see them live!

Too bad I was born in 1995.......

  • @alexmckelleys Saw them on their last tour. In Santa Barbara ca 1979. Outdoors! It was a gas.

  • I saw them a few times in the 80's at the Spectrum in Phila and JFK in Phila.

I DARE you not to have fun at a Kinks concert.

They are one of those bands that you sit there in amazement at how deep their catalog goes.

  • @guyzsly, I hear ya bro, kick ass guitar ! hes right in it ! wicked cool !

  • I had this cassette back in the early 1980's, and I rocked on many a night while I was working midnight shift during college years... I pretended to be Dave (when I was alone, of course I was a nerd) and was singing along with the tape. That was a great concert. Awesome !!!!!!

  • i like rays little "charleston" during times are hard line

  • perfect combination

  • Very 'Nuge-y guitar.

  • @FrizzleFry117 You mean Nugent was very Dave-y

  • @FrizzleFry117 You mean Nugent was very Dave-y

  • love the Mick Jagger impression Ray

  • DD can his guitar, for shure. Saw them first in 72.

  • DD can his guitar, for shure.

  • I first saw them in 1974 in Chicago. We walked in a bit late and they were in the middle of "Demolition Man," I believe from one of the Preservation albums. There was a strobe light flashing and Dave was wearing a white and black striped jacket, plus tie and hat, as I recall.

  • I was there!!!! What a show!!!

  • "..they're a size 28 ...but I take 34 ..."!

  • Don't give me the choice between the Beatles and the Stones.....The Kinks and the Yardbirds oh baby, baby, baby!

  • Diamond Dogs by Bowie?

  • my first ever Kinks gig, Sept 1979 San Francisco Civiv Auditrorium, the Kinks came running out on platforms, flashpots and lights going wild, and the crowd were on their feet the whole show, opened with Sleepwalker, then Life on the Road, then Permanent Waves, and some Low Budget songs

  • After all these years and hundreds upon hundreds of shows attended, this tour ranks right up there with the best I've seen.Tower Theater,Philly,Charlie as the opening act, pure rock and roll bliss.

  • I saw this tour in Germany at a very small venue. The best concert I have ever attended, and I have seen a lot of concerts. At the begining of the show the audience was sitting in their seats and kind of subdued. Ray Davies jumped off the stage and pulled some of the people in the front row up to their feet, including the girl sitting next to me, to get the place excited. It worked. The place was rockinafter that.

  • saw this tour...macomb illinois...western illinois university...some guy named johnny cougar opened...still to this day...one of the finest live shows this ole' boy has ever seen !

  • this song is hella gay

  • Question, who or what was punk rock before The Kinks?!? Rock on boys!

  • yes unfortunately they got banned and couldnt tour til early 70's in the states.. i love the kinks saw them more then 32 times... wish they get back one more time to tour..

  • @glimmergirl Unfortunately that ain't gonna happen due to Dave's condition. And they are Really too old now to do their music justice. Rays Solo shows are fuckin hilarious and in intimate in small venues ,or so i am told and have read about.I never saw them live-- i dont have an excuse but for being stupid!!!

  • Good Stuff.

  • we listened to this song in english lessons :D

  • @Pomelopeel

    Wished we did

  • I was at this shoh and all others in Boston abd Prov. in the 70s. Ray is the poet laureate of rock and roll.

  • the republicans shot down the unemployment extension.merry fucking christmas.

  • dave is fuckin' great..

  • the matrix should allow the kinks to take the world by storm again

  • Bonjour, vous aimez les sixties ? écoutez et podcastez mon émission "le super son des 60's" sur le site de plumfm. You like the 60's ? please, listen and podcast my broadcast "le super son des 60's", connect to "plumfm". Salut et faites gaffe au rock and roll.

  • went to this show. had front row seats. thanks for sharing!

  • @blussier181 where and when was this show, it kills...

  • Great video........nice memories. Thanks, appreciate the post.

  • Dave Davies looks sooooo good here. A shame the technology to record these great bands like they deserved...

  • 50% of the reason the Kinks are great is because of Dave's blistering guitar and high backup vocals.. Especially the late 70's early 80's era

  • 50% of the reason the Kinks are great is because of Dave's blistering guitar and high backup vocals..

  • still have my ticket stub from this concert

  • i just cant watch anymore of this. Ray is looking like a mother fucking fagget. im out of here... you fucking cock suckers

  • It would take one to know one Fragman or, err Frogman----who the fuck are you OJ?

  • @DaveG303 it would take one to reply to my Comment

  • @imthefrogman ---Have it your way Queenie.

  • perfectly CLASSIC ROCK.... HAIL!!! TO THE DAVIES BROTHERS....

  • Sounds like ole' Dave finally got around to practicing.

  • Dave is amazing. If you haven't heard his solo album "AFL1-3603", you should...well written, great lyrics, kick-ass harmonies...the most under-rated album I know of.

Mick avery is a very solid drummer as this track illustrates...

Ray: one of the most prolific songwriters there ever was...and had plenty of relevant lyrical content.

  • What the hell is up with Nazi's trying to take over this board. The name of the song or are you just random cocksuckers?

  • The Kinks...one of the best and most underrated rock bands ever.....the Davies brothers are just awesome!

  • i've seen comedians try to be rock and roll stars... but the davies brothers managed to master both...

  • Cheers!!!!!

  • The Low Budget of the late seventies came from you commie lefty fuck-twits. Fuck you and your spawn. You lefty cunt -faces have done it again. Your Messiah is a fraud. Fuck You.

  • @tomthefunky Amen, brother! You speak the truth.

  • @tomthefunky I bet you masturbate to Sarah Palin Posters at least 3 times a day. Asshole.

  • @MegaRussellC82: Let's see, compared to Michelle "Chewbacca" Obama, Hillary Clinton and the all the dyke/hags you have on your side, Sarah Palin is by far the most jerk-off-able. Throw in the Bush twins and I'm ready to go.

  • @tomthefunky You never saw the Gore girls in their prime :).

  • i never underrated him.

  • great song

  • joe perry(aerosmith) must have worshiped dave davies...the style is so similar...and they both rock!!!!!!

  • I'm also on a low budget --- too bad BeelzeBush and Obarfma [BeelzeBush on steroids] cannot learn to live on a low budget ...

  • Dave Davies is one of the Founding Fathes of heavy metal rock guitar. He sho nuff be da MAN, STAN!!

  • Dave Davies = hotness

  • Comment removed

  • Good Lord! I was at this show in Prov RI! Awesome! They played Providence A LOT.

  • i saw them in 1990 at georgetown university. no lazers. no three story stage. no smoke and mirrors. no bells and whistles. pure fun rock n roll!

  • They always kicked ass!

  • Dave is so frickin awesome! i saw this tour in Nashville!

  • I was there!!! What a show, The Kinks were on top of their game.

  • this is how to rock

  • seen them in concert a couple times - Awesome shows - this band is a killer with humor in the lyrics as well

  • the most underated band in history...in my opionon...the stones, beatles ..the who...can all take a back sat

  • Dave Davies is absolutely "TEARING IT UP" playing killer lead guitar! The most underrated guitarist in rock history in my opinion.

  • @guyzsly seconded! it pisses me off that people ONLY think of lola, you really got me, etc... the preservation stuff was great, but really, what made them my fav band was the albums "Schoolboys in Disgrace" "Misfits" and "Low Budget"

just amazing, amazing, stuff. im 20 and it's so hard to make the kids my age see the truth...

  • @guyzsly "Underrated" by whom, exactly?

  • @TruthAxe

Dave Davies never got the real credit he deserved as a guitarist even though he practically invented heavy metal with You Really Got Me and All Day And All Of The Night around 64/65. As you can see by this video, the man can jam!

  • Great Song!

Saw it live 1989 Georgetown University standing on blue plastic in the old gymnasium. The plastic was the type used to cover a baseball field when it rains. They put that down, because 2 beer trucks were serving up 32 ounce Budweisers.

What a BLAST! It was the greatest concert I have ever attended. The entire crowd, went WILD! It seemed like they played forever. I remember being exhausted by the end.

    KINKS !!!!

  • @centurion180ad

I was at the same show. it was actually spring of 1990. but don't matter. no lazers, no smoke, no mirrors, no three story stage, no bells, no whistles. just pure kinks rock n roll. best show i ever went to.

  • @centurion180ad i was at the same show. no lasers. no fireworks. no giant stage. no smoke. no mirrors. pure kinks rock n roll.

  • my dad showed mee this song. not as good as linkin park in my opinion but still LOL

  • 3-5-2010: Just got home from the Ray Davies concert in PA, and the last song he did (with backing band "The 88") was this one "Low Budget". So timely again, and he did a magnificant job on it! His voice soared all night long, and I could not help but imagine what if the entire Kinks were backing him up tonight - surely his voice would have soared right with them!

  • Killer guitar solo. Killer song.

  • I would like to recommend this song to Guido Westerwelle (german secretary of state for foreign affairs) who loves bashing people living on dole.

  • Nice song and nice concert

I just think that they were kind of imitating the

Stones, but they really did not need to

The kinks were just beautiful playing their music in their own style. I prefer them in other moments of their amazing career

  • disagree strongly

  • That ol song makes my current situation not seem so bad. Thank you Kinks.

  • he is ten times the lead player of keef richards and jimmy page in my opinion.

  • love that keef!!

  • Dave Davies is soooo underated his guitar licks are every bit as good as Kieth Richards.

You really got me is about as good as it gets in my book I love the kinks

  • uuuh intellectuals... wow!!! ^^

  • @gabrielleutzendorff Let's see if we can reach in deep and find a hint of grey matter in your head. The posts are about the song, the Kinks, the Videos. Efforts by you and your painfully moronic friends to use it as a vehicle to spew hate are DANGEROUS. Please go spread your distorted view of the world to someone who gives a loose crap.

  • THIS SONG IS SOOO FUCKING AWESOME!!! gotta love it man

  • & this is where they slowy transitioned into the 80's sound & style...

  • Low Budget times are back and Captain America is falling. Kinks were uniquely in touch with the culture in the late '70s...and just like the clothing, these songs are relevant again under Jimmy Carter II.

  • Yeah, except there's a major flaw in your logic, ScottyBoy. Obama inherited this mess. We've got every president from Reagan (deregulating the banks and making derivatives legal, ignoring urban blight, and wasting billions on a bogus war on drugs, among other things), through George the Turd, to thank for our current predicament. You just like to take the easy way out, when it comes to thinking. If Bush had doled out all of these corporate bailouts, you'd be creaming yourself. Kinks rock tho.

  • u2b4dumeze, Did you live through the '70s? It's pertinent because you'd recognize parallels to that era. My undergrad major was econ and my master's in government contracting, so thanks for the advice on "thinking." The personal attacks fit your mentality perfectly. Regardless, we're in Low Budget times and when you lose your job, don't forget to blame someone else.

  • Actually, my undergrad was in Econ, as well, and you know nothing about my mentality, so grow up, and quit pretending to profess about that which you know nothing. Apparently, you don't watch the news. You're just another bandwagon jumper that likes to bitch. Go wave your credentials somewhere else. Like I said, when Bush and Reagan did it, I'm sure you were all applause. Aren't you supposed to be reading some Ann Coulter, or something, right now? Asshole.

  • I notice you were incapable of refuting my evidence.

  • First, this site is about the Kinks, and a particular song. Not the proper venue for other people to read a dissertation on economics. Second, you're big on attitude and very selective regarding "evidence." Just keep typing expletives, it suits you well.

  • Stay classy, man.

  • Ann Coulter would kick your ass.

  • That comment might actually mean something if you knew anything about me 555DSC, but you don't. As for that anorexic succubus, I doubt she could kick anything except for someone who's already down, which is what she and people like you do best.

  • Right on.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Face-Removal Rock and Roll!

  • TRUE TRUE TRUE ! NOBODY CAN DO IT BETTER THAN THE KinKs!

  • They had to be seen live to be truly appreciated! Awesome live band

  • " In all honesty, I believe rock can change the world, and nobody can do it better than the kinks. " Dave Davies in his book KINK

  • top song from a top band what a performance

  • Dave Davies is just brilliant, well so are rest but the way he plays the guitar at the start, phew!!

  • i could def see a stones influence here. ray's stage antics are similar to jaggers and the guitar playing would fit right in with any stones song.

  • I love how Dave gets his guitar to practically float in the air, and how he lays his hands on it! :)

Ray did this as an encore in his Orpheum Theater show, and he still does pretty much all the moves, LOL.

  • xD This song we heard today in english

  • Yeah, but how did they get in that concert on that low budget...i ask myself???

  • Back then, $20 bucks would get you on the floor. I don`t think it was til PF`s The Wall tour tickets went above $100 for good seating. Stones killed cheap shows shortly afterward.

  • should be national anthem

  • Still rings true today! LONG LIVE THE KINKS!!!!!

  • Theme song of my life.... I'm on a low budget,. sometimes a 'no' budget.

  • Dave Davies is the definition of gorgeous.

  • Damn straight!!! The man is HOT. I think that's one reason the brothers never got along- Ray's jealous of his sexy little brother's good looks.

  • Dave is forming his US tour even now as I type this.

He'll be at the Los Angeles El Rey Theatre on February 5, two days after his birthday. I hope I'll be able to get a ticket and am afraid they'll get sold out too quickly!

  • bulstrode100, that is so sad if true. : ( And it was so unnecessary.

They both had and still have incredible appeal.

  • Sounds a lot like most of Joe Walsh's solo music. HUH?

  • Dave is friggin amazing on that guitar! Great intro and solo, I love it!

  • Dave, you are a million kinds of awesome. I just hope you know it.

  • See how Dave grown in confidence, see him in the video Suzanna's Still Alive and he's very shy, licking his lips and looking ill at ease. He is a superb guitarist, hope he's back on stage soon. Great song, shame Woolworths have all gone!!

  • What a great image at 0.40 !

Dave standing in the spot light.

    He`s really deserved it !!!

  • Ray played this as the ending song of his set at the Lokerse Festival... I was there... what a surprise! what a great moment!

  • I'm Low Budget and Proud, yes!!!!

  • absolutely luv Dave's intro and solo in this ... :-)

  • Great song from what may be the original punk rockers.

  • a classic very true for todays times god will pull us thru

  • Oh what an intro Dave, your are amazing. Love you for ever and ever.

  • Comment removed

  • Dave and Ray together on stage are unbeatable.

  • Great song, Incredible lyrycs. We are living this today folks! Obama are you listening??? Fantastic!!

  • Can someone email this song to da Pres?

  • Too bad they don't play this one more today... Yes, I agree it is relevant, but radio is too dense to venture outside of their boring classic rock playlists...

  • This song is more relevant than it was when it first came out!!!

  • suckin cigars cuz i cant afford cock.

Thank you so much for this for this video.

The golden age of rocknroll is so inspirational,

    Paul

  • sensational how good are they

  • One of the best guitar intros ever.

  • lmao i paid 1,000 for seger tickets last year he looked like a ant!

  • LOL, I paid $10 US to see them in 1980, well worth my low buget!

  • I would pay $100 to see them live, love the kinks. Let me know when they are in So Calif.

  • this cost me 18.50 2cnd row in the middle

  • THE KINKS RULE ~~~~

    GOD SAVE THE KINKS

  • 30 years ago... ai yai yai!

  • The Kinks are supreme masters at addressing timeless issues, frequently in a humorous way.

Low Budget is one those songs.

  • We are living it today folks. Even my hair is not my own today. Great lyrycs and right on time, this is current anthem.

  • I adore this! I saw this tour at Universal Amphitheatre back in the day. My boyfriend snagged a pair of "low budget" shoes in the parking lot after the show.

  • sensational one of the best clips

  • funny how the kinks social commentary songs some how become relevant over and over again..

    great insights that Ray.

  • wonderful.

  • Ray is so awesome, and so is Chrissie Hynde! Their child must be beautiful!

  • great live version

  • appropriate for the times and a great band and clip

  • hm...you think people like Stephen Harper or Jim Flaherty (To those Canadian viewers) would sit down and listen to this song?
