Everyone You have witnesseth one of the Greatest Talents of ALL TIMES. Remember this was recorded At telethon just few months post commencement of the Musical in
NYC Now twenty five year anniversary. All the fifteen or so phantoms could not
touch Sammy's Performance, this video prroves the test of time in that regard. Notice Not Frank Sinatra nor Dean Martin ever performed this song, knowing the powerful performance
that Sammy could accomplish. Heck they knew Sammy was a Better singer .
Sammy said in the few years before cancer took his vocal chords God let him have his best singing voice. After hearing this performance I understand!!
not ever will there be a another sammy davis, who was not only a great singer, but a black history pioneer, he began in a time when it was not easy being a black entertainer, he made you close your eyes and imagine that you were there in the moment!
there will never be another Sammy, not only was he a pioneer in black music history, he was a great character SINGER, he made you close your eyes and imagine you were there.......
Sammy was an extraordinarally gifted multi talented performer who was taken from us much too soon. At 90 pounds, he sure had an amazing, powerful, emotional voice that is up there with the top ten greatest. My wife and I were fortunate to see him perform live back in the early 1980's. It was a Show like no other. He sang over twenty songs, played the drums like a Pro, tapped, told jokes, and made his voice sound like so many other singers. This Phantom performance outdid everything else.
I was very disheartened to learn that the telethon will be cut to only 6 hours. Even more disturbing was the fact that the press release on the MDA website had no comment from Jerry Lewis. In fact the press release didn't even mention him at all!
I can't agree with you more, and not even mention Jerry Lewis, who has garnered over 2 billion for his kids, it is a slap in the face to Jerry and to his kids, I am disgusted as well.
@JoeWellington Yea, I'm not sure where the rationale came from.... Depending on the exact time frame they are proposing now, I would be surprised to see the tote even touch 20 mil, very disappointing.
One of the people, that REALLY, REALLY had to die MUCH to soon!!! :( - he still was on the top weeks before his death, so sad....And this performance here is so, so, so great!! =)
first time i saw him do this song on a special with sinatra & minelli and the lighting was so fantastic that I thought HE should have been in the part even tho he's a little guy. what a voice! what a loss when he died. and what a lot of crap songs he recorded, wasting that voice. sad
