  • Probably the best cover I have heard of a song.

  • I like the orignial much better, but it probably depends on which one you heard first.

  • and we becoooome... silhouETTES whEN OURBODIES FINALLY Gooo

  • One of the best covers of any song ever!

  • why aren't there more Ben Gibbard song covers? Just the Shins and Iron & Wine respect his music? Go fuck yourself, David Geffen. Lick my balls, and then get a proper cover album started, or I'll beat the shit out of you.

  • I discovered this song when Pandora played it, and thought "oh snap, this is awesome!" I, too, like this cover better than the original.

  • @pianomanDylan I like both versions, but I know that my one friend likes The Shins more than The Postal Service and now I can show her this song.

  • They did SO MUCH better than the postal service

  • why would you waste time watching a video you dont even like then take even more time to share your negative input? no life? and as if we care for your opinion in the first place or if we'd change our taste in music for someone who is obviously just a lame ;)

  • to the comment below me....no,this is actually off an album by the postal service, but the shins had a song in it.idk all the details about it

  • Someone please tell me that this is off of their new album expected next year?!?

  • @MrNightCreeper This is a cover of a "The Postal Service" song

  • the art of getting by brought me here :)

  • white music

  • @Monkeyman3000 Niggers :(

  • For some very odd reason..this song reminds me of gears of war 3 :O

  • The Art of Getting By

  • I think this songs wins the award for "most upbeat song about nuclear apocalypse"... except for possibly that Weird Al Yankovic song about Christmas at Ground Zero.

  • Either way. They both make wonderful music together.

    Hush hush.

GREAT IDEA.... they should make a song together! It'd be weird, but hey. Worth a chance :3

  • yes, yes ,yes M (USIC)

  • I love the Postal Service, but I actually prefer this version. The guitar is just a much more organic sound, and they really did this song justice.

  • @midge353 Me too

  • Everyone has their own taste in music and obviously their own opinions too. I just listen to music because I like the sound and like the lyrics regardless of what genre. I love and have The Postal Service album and just newly discovered this song. It's a great different take on the song. Good job Shins!

  • i bet ben gibbard give it 2 thumbs up.

  • @desmatters I agree stop arguing about the genre of music and just enjoy the music. It's all music, regardless whether its Indie or not. Great song by the way.

  • Fuck yeah.

  • HATERS GON' HATE

  • they are barely mainstream. sure, they are an older indie band, but who cares. they make amazing music and practically started the genre by combining past influences in music and adding their own ideas. the shins are amazing. @alex10645 is a stuck up indie snob. i listen to underground indie but i dont have to go around being a dick and saying that stuff is maintstream you asshole.

  • urgh every top comment is something hating.

fucking enjoy the music dickheads! :D

  • You kids are funny, the Shins aren't even a band. They're just awesome.

  • Amazing picture. I love how human they are compared to almost every other band out there. Long live The Shins!!

  • What album is this off of?

  • @heyufool1 I think this was on The Postal Service single "Such Great Heights"

  • @jazbob101 When I read what you wrote it didn't make sense to me...now they I read it on wikipedia I fully understand. I would have thought it would have been on their own album.

  • from The Rise very chill song

  • I guess why they're called "The Shins" :D

  • 5 people fell and smacked their heads on the pavement.

  • Wishin' everybody would calm down. Great song. This is B-side cover of the Postal Service, btw. So no, this is not a 'The Shins' original.

  • i love the postal services' version, but i LOVE the happy vibe of this one..

  • @AntiProfessional i totally agree :)

  • who the fuck cares if they are indie or not? If you like them great, if not fuck off and let the rest of us enjoy them.

  • @desmatters

I like the shins am I cool now???? Wait, I still don't like this better yet still shitty cover of an even shittier song. I guess I'll leave you to your circle jerk. :)

  • shut up both of you

    espesialy you alex10645

if u wanna do something about it do something dont sit on your computer and argue with people on youtube u faggot

  • funny thing, that this song is actually about nuclear devestation!

  • this is better than postal service in my opinion

  • im must say. im dissapointed.

  • Dave's life jacket is twice the size of the rest of the bands.

  • any1 have this in flac?

  • this is no doubt better than the original

  • Comment removed

  • @Somestupidloser Why do you hate them? Personal problems?

  • @skel3t0nX Because I don't... like them? Do I need proof to express an opinion? I'm fairly certain of what I do and do not like. Unless you are, of course, apart of the political correctness police and take offense to the exaggerated use of the word, "Hate".

  • @skel3t0nX it's because they're just some stupid loser.

    ;)

  • great cover!!! yay Shins!

  • The Shins have always been awesome.

  • The Shins have always been amazing, and they will always be amazing!

  • Horrible Cover, ruined the charm of the song...

  • @alex10645 i dont know if you iq is also equivalent to a rock, but i was explaining to gswabso3 after his comment of "this indie bullshit sucks" i was explaining to him that postal service is ALSO indie goddamn thorough reading would solve your stupidity of you thinking that i am an suggesting that the shins as a underground indie band

  • @vincent2831 8=====D you suck dick :0

  • wow people seem so angry over nothing

  • It seems some of my favorite songs are covers of Postal Service. Like, they have great lyrics, but the originals I just never warmed up to. I fucking love this cover and it's pretty much the only version I'll listen to now haha

  • Comment removed

  • @bbartelbee buddy im the uone who uploaded the video so i kinda gotta read all the bullshit people like you post; so why not give a smart ass reply

  • @bbartelbee Agreed. Although the Shins are mighty good.

  • @bbartelbee The Shins and The Postal Service came out on Sub Pop anyway man, they were never "indie". Quit being such a pretentious douche.

  • Yeah I was totally mislead about the postal service. someone once lied to me long long ago. They have been punished.

  • The guy on the left is the vocalist, yeah?

I need to get into themmm :)

  • Its weird, i'm not a huge fan of the postal service, but two of my favorite songs are covers of their songs: We Will Become Silhouettes (The Shins) and Such Great Heights (Iron & Wine) Proof that Ben Gibbard is a brilliant lyricist.

  • its about nuclear fallout oh and btw ye IT IS BY THE POSTAL SERVICE ORIGANLY but the shins DID A MUCH BETTER JOB DOIN IT, SHIT THEY MIGHT ASS WELL HAVE WROTE THE SONG

  • lol. check your facts.

  • haha you're stupid

  • lol wrong

  • dude, do some research before you post, so that u dont come off as a misinformed idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • oh my god everyone in the comments are like linked to each other I feel so left out lol. BTW This song (By the postal Service) is what made me actually think about lyrics. And now because of the shins cover, I listen to them, and I love "New Slang" and "Caring is creepy"

  • Hey McFatty. I try. ;]

Rationality is a nice approach. Especially when dealing with people.

With animals. It's more of an instinctual thing. So when I find myself in the wild I'll know what to do. People are a weird stock. Too much society in 'em. =P

  • @Bomberman8431

I couldn't agree more man, you literally stole the words right from the tips of my fingers.

  • @alex10645, It's nice of you to give people suggestions, but try not to come off as such an Indie-Snob. If someone is in the mood for some Indie-Folk and aren't really in the mood for some Indie-New Wave, or Neo-Psychedelia music..like Animal Collective for instance. Then let'em chill out to whatever they wanna listen to. Just because a band stops producing music doesn't make their music bad all of a sudden.

  • @Bomberman8431 youre right. i still love the bands that got me into the whole indie scene.

  • Hee hee.

Even the flame wars on vids for indie music are mellow, with mellow endings.

I love you people. I'm so glad indie exists.

  • @FireLilyX

    I think I like you....

    I don't know why.

    I just do. :-)

  • Nice to know. :)

  • which one came first the postal services' or the shins' version?

  • postal service

  • @vincent2831 dude, the shins and the postal service are the most mainstream "indie" music there is. youre a total idiot for saying that theyre "too indie." thats a brash statement. And there is no "better" version, there is a version you like more than the other. opinions are opinions, neither is better.

  • dude obviously you illiterate ass still cant read because i said they are "indie too" not "too indie" get your facts straight dumbfuck

  • Oh I love you tube comments...

  • haha

  • @vincent2831 Calm your hormones children and just enjoy the music

  • @alex10645 your ass is too indie, indie ass.

  • @alex10645 Yeah they are pretty much as mainstream as indie gets. Death Cab isn't even indie anymore. The Shins were so much better when they were Flake Music,

  • @alex10645 You're a fuckin idiot. lol I don't know anyone else that knows of The Shins other than my brother's girlfriend. You calling them mainstream is just bullshit. lol

  • @twistedlogic8808 i love your username! :) and i quite agree. hardly anyone i know has heard of them either!

  • @alex10645 freaking hipster....

  • Comment removed

  • @Gogohax Ben Gibbard;s version for the postal service came first dude..

  • I like The Shins.... but I truly like Postal Service's original moar.

  • I love this so much, listen to it all the time.

  • idk whats wrong with this song its like too legit too quit

  • yessssss!!!!! I love this song

  • sorry to break it to you but postal service is indie too ahaha

  • @vincent2831 Yeah, I think someone needs an etymology lesson, lol. I might actually understand what 'indie bullshit' is, there are plenty of awful bands, but the Shins is definitely not one of them.

  • @thislucidlife if you like the shins, and indie music in general you should try a band like Real Estate, or like The Dirty Projectors, or Animal Collective.

the shins was good, but theyre really commonplace, and they havent put out an album in three years. expand your musical interests.

  • Your a fucking idiot. You have no appreciation for a good cover song by a good band like the shins. The shins are a great band along with the postal service so stop being a fuckface.

  • @tarheels6044 i would hardly even call the postal service a band to be completely honest. it was just a side project from Death cab, and since there hasnt been a second album, or any followup, id say The postal service is done.

Furthermore, fuckface isnt really a clever insult.... and also, the shins are good, but theres a lot thats better. try listening to Annuals, who is not only a good band, but theyre actually still recording, unlike the shins who have been missing for three years.

  • @alex10645 no one cares. Stop thinking you know everything about music.

  • @tarheels6044 i certainly dont think i know everything.

  • I think it would make more sense to cover the entire album, but thats only because i want to hear their interpretations of the others. As of right now i only have Iron and Wine for such great heights covers, and i would want one thats faster like this.

  • You know, I love the Shins. I'm confused at why they did a cover. I have to say though, they did just as good if not better than Postal Service. But I like The Shins so much more than Postal Service so I'm biased... ;)

  • They have such a weird persona for an indie band

  • i put this song in a skate video and they claimed copyright on it -_-

  • damn i was just gonna use this song for a montage hah

  • I like both versions! I usually listen to the other one... but occasionally, I crave this one.

  • i dunno man i think everyone else who has commented would have to disagree.

  • dude. It's a great version. You cant even compare the two, they are two totally different styles of music. This one is fun, they made it their own. So before you start sucking off ben gibbard just because anything he produces turns to gold, think about other bands too.

  • Comment removed

  • I love Ben Gibbard, but I must disagree by saying that I fucking love this cover.

  • I like both versions equally and for different reasons.

  • oh yeah, i prefer this version more. but they're both different styles, both are great!! :)

  • i deffinetely prefer this cover. sorry postal service but my heart belongs to the shins (:

  • I freakin' love this cover! Postal Service's version will still be on the highest regard, but this is still sweet.

  • chris parnell is totally in the shins haha

  • hahahah.

that's exactly what i was thinking.

  • good cover :)

  • great cover....i would say its better than the origional

  • and i wouldn't want you to go that far

  • i actually like this version better. this one seems a bit more rock influenced.

  • well, what else can you say about it? lawl. the original was all synths and 8bit sounding bytes of sound. so yes, in general it's obvious to say it's rock influenced...

  • i prefer postal service. I dont think this is a good cover. But i like the shins musicm

  • I'm pretty sure I like this cover better than the original. Besides, look at 'em. They all have such nice legs!

  • @AntiProfessional The cover is indeed better than The Postal Service's.

  • What album can I find this on?

  • check out (DOUG MAC DONALD BAND)

  • hahaha, love the picture, love the song.

    thaaaaaaaaaaanxxx!!

  • better

  • Ah, the Shins are truly talented. They did wonderfully with this cover! I enjoy both versions quite a bit.

  • i think death cab for cutie would be better for this song i didn't like ben in the postal service to electro

  • crackhead

  • Ben Gibbard in the postal service makes Electro Music awesome.

I really think they influenced awesome electro bands like Hot Chip.

Plus Postal Service is super meaningful, Ben's voice just makes it all the better.

  • i think the postal service version is better but...this is ok :)

  • OoOoOOOOoooooooyyyyyeeEEAAAHHHHHHHHHHHhHh, the shins rox my sox

  • this is better than postal service's

  • totally ...i agree

  • the greatest song everrrr

  • lol i like this version better than the original ^^ thanks

  • ya man! best song ever

  • yes!!!!!!! thank you!

  • love it, thanks for posting. Gosh these guys are the greatest
