Well, that's because raccoons in the wild test everything with their front paws. They are ultra sensitive and can tell them a lot of different things about it's environment.
very funyi have a similar situation in my back yard an old raccoon couple share dinner evry nite with my cats they are in peace with each other funny we can learn from them!!
i live with cats too... and sometimes i drink out of a cup.. but i wouldnt stick my paw in.. that furry fur fur has bad manners! although i thnk i know that guy!
OMG, is he wiping his hand on you? Raccoons and cats are my two favorite animals (I actually like cats a little more) and it always warms my heart to see the two getting along. Very cute video.
The cats don't seem bother though they look at him from time to time with a look that seems to say, "who the heck is this big bushy and furry creature?" LOL.
I LOVE RACCOONS they are my favorite animal. this raccoon needs more exercise though, obesity is the leading cause of death for domesticated raccoons. :/
This was a wild raccoon. He was old when we first "met" him. Then somehow his paw was wounded and got infected. He moved pretty slowly for a while. It finally got a little better. I think he has passed away, but his children are still in the area. They, too, live wild and are not as "friendly" as their father.
I curse coons they killed my brother from rabies and he did not harm him he was just throwing the trash and I saw it attacking it and I grabbed a stick and whipped it and it started escaping
I love it, this is too cute, Raccoons are one of my favorite animals, I have seen a lot of them tame as pets and they are just as playful as kittens..Cute video:)
We have a number of raccoons who come to our house. This one is special. Very tame and friendly. I don't know why. Perhaps he is old or perhaps he has a history with humans. I don't know, but he is very special.
Love an respect these wild beings. They are surviving in an environment that we can hardly manage ourselves. I've had many racoons on my property along with my several cats and we have never had any problems. I don't feed them, but will provide water for them at times. They are lovely.
Yes, I'd love racoons. I forgot that racoons exist, haven't heard the word "racoon" for years. Strange, isn't it? I bet they are bloody expensive. I love your racoon, does it happen to steal carpets too?
Well, raccoons like to dip their food in water, so he might have been just dipping, but I think he saw my hand through the clear glass and thought that he could reach my hand. That would explain why he reached around the glass to pat my hand after he pulled his paw out of the water.
It seems that different places have different rules about taking in wildlife as pets. We have just fed our cats outside and all of the sudden we find we have a mini petting zoo on the back deck. I does seem that raccoons have the potential for domestication.
that's so fucking adorable! I forgot about how raccoons' noses scrunch up while they chew. and i love how he decided to stick his hand in, then wipe it on you.
i had raccoons on my backyard, they were really furtive tho, i had about 10 and i could only see them for a couple of seconds before they all disapeard
there's a baby raccoon at the tack store - he's 10 months old but he won't get much bigger and he looks like he's about half a ft long - when he was little(r) he hit his head hard so he can't stand up right or really control himself and he went blind =[ but he's so sweet and he likes to hold people's hand's
I love this. I hope "my" six raccoons will become as friendly and that my cats will be hospitable to them. I've been filming the raccoons for the past week or so. Just tonight I taped a mother with her three babies. My videos are under my YouTube name--Shandelar.
Just as I typed that last, another raccoon entered stage left and began to eat. "PK" (Porch Kitty), a feral cat who comes to the porch daily, is sitting in the bushes behind him, watching!
Actually, I just read about this last night - Google: raccoons and rabies -whoops- no URLs allowed here! I've been thinking about getting my own raccoon fixed while he's young and I was wondering what other shots he needed. It's been almost 20yrs since I've owned a coon... Hope this helps. (Talk to your local people about the cats, though!) Zorro looks old and a touch odd - feature-wise - to this Southern girl. Is it because he's a Northwesterner? ;o)
No. Zorro lives in Loudon, TN. I think Zorro is old. He walks with a bit of a limp. I don't know about his looks, except that he is very handsome, of course.
From what I understand raccoons do not have salivary glands, which is why that have to constantly wet their food and/or be around water. Be careful around wild raccoons though, they catch & carry rabies at a higher rate than almost any other animal!
Thanks HoneyBaer. I am trying to get access to the kind of thing that forestry people use to prevent rabies in the wild raccoon population. A fish ball with vaccine or something? Know anything about this?
We didn't raise this raccoon so I don't have too many words of advice. You might check with your local animal humane society. Some would advise that you not try to raise this wild animal. However, I have also heard from folks who have successfully raised raccoons. They do tend toward domestication. I would recommend seeing if you can find a vet who will give yours some shots and some additional advice.
aww i have an infant raccoon still bottle fed abandond by motherand hes on my shoulder rit now lol inamed him rocky from the beetels song rocky raccoon plees respond i need advice
Aww, I miss living at my mom's where we had lots of raccoons. They too would eat the cat food outside (we fed feral cats). None were ever this tame though, what a little cutie, thanks for posting this. I love how they all insist on washing their hands, haha.
Interestingly, this is not a raised raccoon. He/she(?) began visiting us about 6 months ago. Initially she was hesitant when we opened the sliding glass door, but when she realized that we were harmless, became quite satisfied to have us both film and interact. The other raccoon that now visits us also is not as tame. See my post entitled, "Not Zorro, Not Zorro" at letters-and-surveys(dot)blogspot(dot)com for my observations on the differences between these two animals.
Thank you very much for posting this video. Please let us know if this is a wild raccoon, or if you raised it. Thanks again and let me tell you that Your raccoon is lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also love how they seem to need to pat their food before they finally grab and eat it-
