  • Sorry for the multiple posts. It has been a long time since the shoot. Don and Glenn each received one million for the shoot. DJ acted like a stuckup asshole and Ridley commented how he forgot the humble origins he came from. When we were setting up the lights and cameras in the sound stage, we kept the windows closed and it got over 100 degrees in there. Then when Ridley called for the first team (DJ and Glenn), they sweated their ass off. Ridley chuckled. So did we. DJ was difficult.

  • I forgot to mention, The word around the set was that the commercial, scheduled to air only during the academy awards, cost $15 million.

  • I worked in this commercial s Glenn Frey's stand-in double. It was a great 10 days of shooting. Ridley was a great director to work for. Really down to earth. HE began directing commercials way before he went into movies.. This was a 5 minute or so commercial. The dance was shot in Miami High gym and all the kids were high school age. DJ's stand-in double burned out the clutch on the Ferrari. I got $3500 for 10 days of great fun. Anyone have the full 5 minute version?

  • 0:43 - 0:51 - I laughed my butt off at Don Johnson's sarcastic reply ("MY SONG!")

  • Anybody got the ad where Glenn says, 'Hey, pal, I'm everywhere!' and Don says, 'Knock it off, Glenn!'? I'd love to see that 1. Where's it located?

  • What's so sad is that according to info I found, this was directed by Ridley Scott director of Alien, Legend and Blade Runner.

  • i love this commercial!!

  • Everytime i see this, it makes me feel like this could've been something they showed just before a movie, in the theaters and drive-ins. Miami Vice (1984-1990) will always be one of my favorite 80's shows. Long live Vice!!

  • This is a 512BBi Ferrari not a 512tr....

  • Hell i miss Miami Vice, seems like it was only yesterday.

  • This is why i don't like italian cars , it always broke.

  • I like the way Don nods at the guy who's wearing his same clothes but then notices he is wearing socks...

  • Jennifer Grey started her career dancing in an old pepsi commerical....is the one?

  • Where is Philip Michael Thomas?

  • @27yohana is at home

  • Thank god for the 80s....

  • Damn that's 80's!

  • Lol, kinda sounded like Don had sour grapes with Glen between 0:40 and 0:50! Maybe that's why he took up singing? Alot of people seem to make fun of Don's singing but he's not bad IMO.

  • Awesome!!! They brought Throwback... back!!! I've been waiting all year!!! I like to drink the vintage cans and watch this commercial; it almost feels like i'm there!!!

  • This commercial is terrible! if I had been an adult when this came out I would have bought Coke just to spite them after this

  • why is Philip MIchael Thomas not in this commercial?? if it really is to be a Miami Vice commercial....crockett, glen frey singing, the ferrari, the pastel clothes and linen....but no Philip Michael Thomas???

  • Sonny crockett rocks

  • the choice of the new generation! Yeah!

  • I think this is a Ridley Scott or Tony Scott directed commercial.

  • it's your town PAAALLLLLLL

  • i miss cheesy 1908's commercials like this

  • "Pepsi in the USA"...oh Glenn Frey, you little sell out.

  • whats that at 2.02?

  • Well its self parodying, still following series principles.Great exploitation ad formula.

  • Comment removed

  • hostia el sonny crocket

  • Man, those were the days!

Castillo's still my favourite, however. He PWNS Chuck Norris! Someone once asked me if I watched Miami Vice; what could I say, but "Yep, 'Olmos' every night!" You may now shoot me for the bad pun.

  • They've actually brought back the white cans that have the old logos like in the commercial, for their "throwback" line.

  • You belong to the city!

  • Looking at it now, it's cheesy. But back then, DJ was HOTT and so was this song. Glenn Frey rocks, and still does. I had DJ all over my room and locker in high school. I'd still do him. LOL

  • don is so cool.

  • What Music of the first half ?

  • Glenn Frey - You belong to the city.

Is that a Ferrari 308 or 328? Nice and magic commercial until the first song is changed.

  • I agree. That "Pepsi in the USA" jingle was so annoying and cheesey.

  • But all 80's!

  • This is dope (no pun intended)

  • Anything with Don Johnson in it is instantly aced :D

  • GREAT! THX for posting

  • MIAMI VICE 4EVER! Coolest TV show of the 80s (the least) !!!

  • Even the commercials were better in the 80's. Damn I miss that era and of course Miami Vice.

  • @Spugester26 yea me to i wish i could go back to theses days and live out the rest of my life there

  • @Spugester26 me to =(

  • "MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" love it

  • how he see with that glasses =O

  • this never happend in the real live, first if your ferrari broke in the night in that neight your dead men, second, only pepsi in that party ?? where is cocaine, heroine xtacys and weed ?? its the 80's no 40`s , third, its totaly imposible the girl fix a ferrari

  • @HawK271080 And I think that Glenn Frey will never be in your car :D

  • HEY VERY NICE VID

  • I was a complete Miami Vice maniac during the 80's. I missed recording this ad with my VCR and was so beside myself, I actually CALLED BBDO (the ad company that made it) asking if I could get a copy on tape. Needless to say I didn't get it.

Thanks for uploading this! Now I can watch it any time. :D

This has to be the coolest ad ever. And yes, mosquitobight, Cruising around Miami in a Ferrari with Don Johnson and Glenn Frey WAS absolutely the coolest place in the world to be in 1985. :)

  • wo is de tubbs

  • den braucht keiner :D

  • Cruising around Miami in a Ferrari with Don Johnson and Glenn Frey... That was probably the coolest place in the world to be in 1985.

  • Glenn: Thats my song

    Don:My songgg XDXDXD ahhahahaha

  • Thats bogus how Tubbs wasnt used in the commercial. He could've been at the club or driving by. thats the '80s for ya.

  • He had a contract to do ads for grape soda.

  • Wow, this takes you back to a great era...

  • MIAMI VICE tv show are available on DVD's ("MIAMI VICE season 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5")

  • It was cool until everyone started singing and dancing to that song. Oh well......great car

  • Wheres Phillip Michael Thomas?????

  • Lol, I was left wondering what this had to do with Pepsi ahaha, just a few pepsi cans here and there XD

  • That hurts.

  • terrible "pepsi in the usa" song and really bad acting and cheesy lines... wow, it was bad then and its still bad today.

  • i missed tubbs in this one.... who was the other guy!

  • That's Glenn Frey!

Probably around when he wrote the tune & co-starred in the "Smuggler's Blues" episode.

  • Yes, Glenn Frey was the one who wrote the song "You Belong To The City" (background music)

  • That was a great commercial - I've never seen it before.

  • wow that was just weird

  • this video was good

    ANY GUYS UP? qY

  • omg,

my mom told me to watch

    this, cause my uncle and

    cousin are in it when

they were 16!!! I saw them to

    in the backround,lol!!

    they are now 38,

    they look really young in

    this commercial!!!

  • Which people were your Uncle & Cousin?

  • @hmmmmmmmmm2 Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas! smile

  • @noodlehead2326 I did the sound track Dave Pirro United Sound !

  • That was a long ass commercial. And i'm a Don Johnson / Eagles fan. I don't blame network execs for editing that bad boy down to something manageable.

  • MIAMI VICE tv show are available on DVD's ("MIAMI VICE season 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5")

  • Damn!! Where was Philip Michael Thomas when this was being filmed? He could've drove by in the caddy with a pepsi or exiting the club after Glen Frye and Don Johnson were walking in.

  • I love the guy with the socks when Don just shakes his head at him. haha

  • yup, major miami vice faux pas!

  • I really want some coke now. A nice cold refreshing line of coke...

  • you know i smell something?.......yep its cocaine i smell cocaine somewhere

  • Was the black guy busy that weekend?

  • For those of you wondering about the car --- it *is* a Ferrari, but it's not the Testarossa that would eventually be used, nor is it a 308, nor is it the ultra-rare 288 GTO, and certainly not even a "replica" 365 GTS/4 ("Daytona"). It is a BB 512 "Boxer Berlinetta. Odd, since that particular car was never used on "Miami Vice".

  • @sdingeswho Good eye! The BB 512 Berlinetta was Ferrari's precursor to the Testarossa...

  • What is the name of this music?

  • you belong to the city- glen frey

  • it is "You belong to the city" from the series, by glen frey

  • DON JOHSNON 4LIFE

  • This is great! Thanks for posting

  • The record player - so THAT'S how rap got started!

  • when crockett turned off the radio he should have said "look, i had a rough night, and i hate the fucking eagles, man!"

  • Nice Big Lebowski reference. Lol. But Glenn Frey is still the man

  • I recall the commercial but I don't recall the shift in music from Glen Frey's stuff to the cheesy teeny-bopper crap

  • Why cant there be anything like this on tv now. So much wit and atmosphere in this commercial. It just leaves you with a good feeling. Vice is Nice

  • Oh the memories... I was one of the extras dancing in the club which was actually filmed at a school in Miami.

  • NOT FOR AIR???? did this not get shown?

  • wow, i do not remember this.

  • That's Don Johnson and Glenn Frey. Glenn Frey wrote the song "We Belong to The City" and is a member of The Eagles. Glenn also appeared several times in Miami Vice (1984-1990) episodes.

  • AWESOME

  • it is a Ferrari Testarossa

  • nope pal it looks like it´s 512BB

  • mitz: u r right. i thought it was a 308 until i saw the side rear window.

  • Nope, it looks just like the one from Magnum PI, which is a 308. The Testarosa, pre 86, had a mirror on one side only, plus it was wide as hell.

  • hahaha... classic commercials man.

  • Classic 80's!!!

  • what kind of car is he driving? it doesnt look like the testarossa.

  • i think is a Ferrari 288 GTO

  • kk thanks

  • sorry you are wrong. its a replica of a ferrari daytona on a corvette platform

  • yeah, in the first two seasons, but in this ad, it's not the car you're sayin' :)

  • mmm nop, it is a 288 GTO 99% sure, im 110% sure it is not the Daytona replica, that was used in the first two seasons before changing to the white testarossa

  • jonmig, the twin turbo 2.8l v8 were rare. I doubt they used it and it was definitely a 308 since it has the same body, but you heard no turbos spooling.

  • "thats my song" glenn frey

"thats my sooong" (sarcasm) don johnson haha

  • What's the first song called?

When Don says: We have to listen to this?

  • "You Belong to the City"

  • this commercial is awful yet i can't look away

  • Damn! They don't make commericials like this nowadays...

  • This commercial is alright, but it would've been a classic if it would've included Philip Michael Thomas. Come on, both Tubbs and Crockett made Miami Vice (and Edward James Olmos too lol)

  • while driving too

  • sunglasses at nighttime. thats tough

  • but very cool :)

  • Oh I guess Philip Michael Thomas was out of town right? Man thats cold.

  • no he was busted for drugs

  • oh my, who?

  • Pepsi always has the best adverts with the best stars. This one is great. Don Johnson and Glen Frey. I love Miami Vice!

  • don johson is sewyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • i concur

  • What car are they driving, it looks like the magnum 308 GTS only black

  • wow i absolutely love " You Belong To The City " but that saxophone man, it gets to me

  • the car was a Ferrari 512bb

  • Thanks for the extendend clip. I didn't know there was another clip, and I much prefer the extended clip over the 30 second commercial.

  • thanks!

  • what's the title of the first song?

  • "You Belong to the City" by Glenn Frey

  • How ridiculous of them to not have "Tubbs". Assholes.

  • that was so cheesy!

  • Great - superb! Sometimes life spoils us!

  • Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  • AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

    Thank you for upload it!

  • Oh god I remember this commercial! I remember I was pissed because they had Glen Fry instead of Phillip Michael Thomas, that was just wrong!

  • Who's Glen Fry?

  • Glenn Frey of the Eagles who wrote and performed the song "You Belong to the City" for Miami Vice. It is the song played at the beginning. Frey says "that's my song" after johnson tries to turn the song off.

  • Oh...thanx. Who are the Eagles?

  • Yeah me too.

  • Totally Radical man! Don Johnson-Pepsi Now thats cool!!- 1985-So cool_ lol.I wish commerials had cool stuff like it was in 1980's

  • in his mind, don johnson is still this cool. which clearly isn't very cool at all.

  • Well thank you Mr.Froyd for telling us what is going on in Don Johnson's mind.

  • Great to see the extended version posted. Thanks!
