If you're a storm chaser, you already know that patience is its own reward. Even though you only got a glimpse of the tornado, the cloud formations and the lightning that you managed to capture made it worth it. Very nice.
Wow, talk about vehemence! This looked like one monstrocity of a supercell, especially seeing that the lightning was so frequent and bright, indicating likely both an updraft independent of the downdraft and a good amount of moisture present.
If you look between the break in the clouds, you can actually see the anvil of the storm.
Thanks for sharing such a great vid! Favorited and 5/5. Hope to see some more of your videos of storms in the future.
Love this awesome video... the anvil, the ''staircase inflowjet clouds'' and the such frequent lightning for so early in the spring...this is a ''5*'' video!!! I love it... nice camcorder you got too! BTW.... you might wanna see my own awesome shelfcloud 6/26/02-Tstorm with also lotsa lightning...comes in 3 parts.... I'll try sending it to your USERname. Again, love your video, big time!!!
Wow! Was that during the day? It has only got that dark in the fingerlakes region of New York once and that was in April of 2004! And yes that was a tornadic supercell as well.
@randy946 heres a tip, If its in the middle of the afternoon and its really dark its a bad bad bad bad supercell, and i mean horrible with a mulitvortex in it.
I'd have loved to gotten closer but I'm still a novice and stayed too far east. I've seen some of your videos and know you are a pro. By the time I decided to move west from the Lela exit, local officials had I-40 WB shut down so I was only able to move a total of 5 miles further west on the north service road before it too was blocked. That's where the last part of the video was shot from.
You should have got closer, you would have easily seen one of the big tornadoes with this storm. The lightning kept them very illuminated. It is nice though to see what the storm looked like from far away. Nice vid.
And that storm was really bad, evening but that dark with cells like that? oh my god yeah
