El Matador replaced the dragon, after Ricky Steamboat left WWF, SGT Slaughter replaced Jim Neidhart, as the Beverly Brothers had injured Neidhart's knee, and Hercules was a last minute replacement for big bully busick, busick left WWF just before the event.
This match was just a chance for Sgt. Slaughter to redeem himself in front of the fans after his heel run, and what better way to do that than to team with Jim Duggan?
Also, Kerry Von Erich continued his downward spiral here after losing the Intercontinental title a year earlier.
On the heel side, Skinner was truly an underrated wrestler who didn’t get the gimmick or push he deserved but always brought it and put on solid matches none-the-less.
This was 1991 & Sgt. Slaughter is a pro-American face? I recall 91 was when Sgt. Slaughter won the title from Warrior as the anti-American heel allied with Sheik & Adnon. And, Sheik was from Iran, here he was wearing the Iraq flag on his uniform! Didn't those 2 counties go to war for 8 years? It looks like Sheik's team was composed of jobbers to the stars, I was sure that team was going to loose. Tornado was also a JTTS at this time.
To me, it was disgraceful that Vince McMahon at this time repackaged a legend like the Iron Sheik and turned him into Col. Mustafa. He has since come back as Iron Sheik but the fact that his remaining days as a full-time wrestler as Mustafa make me cringe. I bet he wanted out of his contract cause he was turned into a jobber and no one remembers him as the Sheik. Im sure injuries piled up too.
