  • actually this song was made for phil collins bro! a guy saw phil collins brother drowning and the guy thought p.c. bro was joking around but he wasnt! so p.c. asked the guy to come to his concert so the guy was all excited but when p.c. started singing the song the guy started freaking out! so everything about his wife or p.c. seeing a dude not care that another dude was drowning you gus are wrong!!!! p.c. = phil collins! of course lol!

  • Yet another variation claims that when Collins was a young boy, he witnessed a man drowning someone but was too far away to help. Later, he hired a private detective to find the man, sent him a free ticket to his concert, and premiered the song that night with the spotlight on the man the whole time. We repeat, these stories are not true

  • The meaning of this song became a pervasive Urban Myth. The story, which is not true, is that Collins watched as a man who raped his wife drowned. Another version has Collins writing this about about a man who watched another drown, and singing it to him at a concert. .

  • The lingering tension caused by the divorce led Collins to the title, as these negative feelings were "In The Air," and effecting not just the couple getting divorced, but the entire family.

Collins explains the lyrics, "If you told me you were drowning, I would not lend a hand," by saying the drowning is symbolic.

  • .Collins wrote this song about the anger he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea in 1979. He was so devastated that he left Genesis for a short time. All the original songs on the Face Value album, including the followup hit "I Missed Again," were at one time intended to be "messages" to his first wife in an attempt to lure her back to him.

  • *electric guitar strum* ... pic of acoustic guitar headstock... wtf?! :')

    Other than that great :D

  • Lol everyone it was banned during the gulf war because of the lyrics and usally they drowned there prisoners but yes he did give the person concert tickets because he wanted to show that person that things can be explained also he was going through ivorce in1979 thats what "i've been waiting for this moment for all my life" and "i can feel it" as in he knew tha it was comeing i have a papa who knows this stuff :D

  • It's about his divorce, google "Meaning of In The Air Tonight" and click on the "Songfacts" website, they also talk about the untrue stories (rumors) that have been started about why this song was written or it's meaning.

  • awesome

  • imma post a cover of this soon

  • try playing zombies to this

  • drum part is the BEST LOL

  • Collins wrote this about the anger he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea in 1979. He explained on a BBC Radio 2 documentary in 1997 that he took a couple of years out of Genesis due to his devastation....dumbass

  • i just love this, a very beautiful song, a little depressing though

  • I just destroyed my drumset playing this.

  • I Love this Song...♥ <3 :3

  • Like this song, love this song, I think listen every days more than 10 times.

  • Its so true for anyone,anytime...............

  • Love this song, love the lyrics!!

  • you all are a bunch of little bitches! who gives a flyn fuck!

  • dude i luv this song and im young too i luv it mannn

  • heavenw64 you really do make me laugh, you call me an idoit but i'm not the one getting my info from a fucking blog website. How the fuck can you sit there and say 'you're an idoit, i checked on bebo about it'. Thats really fucking rich man... Jeez whats next, someone on myspace says that they're the person who *cough* lets phils friend die *cough*...

  • shut up u f****ng idiot if u talk to ma sister like that ever again ill fid where u live and bet the shit out of u

  • heavenw64 , i'm sorry if I upset your sister. I had know clue it was her,why was she using your account anyways???

  • lmao! wow! how bout you tell your sister to get out of your fucking buisness and get her own account. what happened to helping siblings to an extent. i hate ppl who stick up for their little sister/brother 24/7. she needs to learn how to fight her own battles or, eventually, next time you stick up for her, all she'll get is abuse cause everyone will make fun of how her sister/brother is up her ass looking after her and he/she is too PUSSY to deal w/ it herself.

  • @krystinax0x0x my sister is mentaly retarted she has no muscle control at all! you have no right to say weither a brother or sister should stick up to their siblings i know this isnt aimed at me but im not the only one with a retardate sibling THINK BEFORE YOU ACT you fucking doushe! some siblings need older even YOUNGER siblings to stick up for them BECAUSE THEY FUCKING CANT! (dont bother responding i wont even look at your bullshit you call words)

  • Lol this is a good job but there is only 1 pic lmao

  • Adzaii you remind me of a typical child. Looking to whats on the surface and failing to go deeper....Where in the fuck does it mention anything or any clue about the person he refuses to save not helping his own friend? Because its just a fucking rumor. The song is all about hate and anger. If you dispise someone enough then you would be content to watch them drown, as sick as this my sound. Or , mabye we wouldnt watch the person drown, mabye its a way to describe how bad the hate actually is...

  • not his best

  • I find it funny how everyone is just shouting things like 'ZOMG HIS FRIEND FUCKING DROWNED AND THE GUY DIDNT SAVE HIM'. You take 1 line from the sing and completely shift into a load of crap. If you care to get your facts right, Collins himself dosent even know what this song is about. It was written from a feeling he had and it just shows that true music comes straight from the heart...

  • no thats not how the story is you idiot hes saying that the teachers at the camp didnt save is friend look at the internet on bebo

  • * forgot to make the other comment a reply to heavenw64's comment so heaven when this is sent to your account comments, look for the comment that i forgot to mark as a reply...*

  • calm down everyone

  • F*** you man he dedecaded that song to tha person who drownedto be continued...

  • fuck all u people he sung this song to the person who let his friend drown...

  • I think this about His wife cheating on him. Just listen to this. You will hear it.

  • An old favorite.

  • ur sounding aint that gd man the whole thing is great but its too quiet!!

  • this song is about phil collins his friend was drowning and this guy walked past and phil collins asked him 2 help save his friend and he said no so his friend died so phil collins tracked down the guy and gave him front row tickets 2 the concert and he shone the spotlight on him while he sung that song and the guy was very very shamed

  • thats not true, go to the music video and in the description is a quote from phil colins and he said he doesnt even know what this song is about, he was just writing and it came out. but he said the whole drowning story isnt true.

  • can you please send me a link ore somthing where it stands that he kill himself, because thats what i heard

  • wow that was wicked i saw tom clark singing this song at school now god i love it :)

  • i recorded this video and it reminds me of my freind who drownded in lake michigan i was so sad i thout it was my own falt

  • nice song, and video! :P

  • Cool!!!

  • i luv dis song

  • thats not true he was bored but he didn't see someone drown really

  • wicked song!!

  • And then every time I go back to America the story gets Chinese whispers, it gets more and more elaborate. It's so frustrating, 'cos this is one song out of all the songs probably that I've ever written that I really don't know what it's about, you know"

  • "I don't know what this song is about. When I was writing this I was going through a divorce. And the only thing I can say about it is that it's obviously in anger. It's the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation. So what makes it even more comical is when I hear these stories which started many years ago, particularly in America, of someone come up to me and say, 'Did you really see someone drowning?' I said, 'No, wrong'.

  • it was awasom!!!

  • cwluvaxxx thats true my dad told me about that but i didnt no he killed himself

  • ya, he thought he was like pasesed, and went crazy

  • this song is about the time that phil collins was walking at night somewhere a he saw a guy drowning, and the man that was supperosed to help him didnt do anything. so after the guy was arrested phil brought him to one of his concerts and sang this song for him, couple days after the guy went insane and kiled himself.

  • I never knew that was why he wrote the song

    Thanks

    x

  • yup!! anytime

  • Isn't that an urban legend?

  • can you send me a link ore somthing, I just want to read it myself, thanks for comment,,, beacuse thats what i heard

  • look on Wiki it states the same as the other guy says.. Phil doesn't know what its about

  • ty for informasjon, but where do it stands, can you please give me a link ore somthing, just want to read about it,

  • Thats bullshit it was his frnd who was drowning n phil cudnt help n the guy wudnt help him so yee he eventually tracked down the guy n sung this 2 him

  • what? spell out your word please? lol

  • @CWluvaxxx NO its not, Phil was going through a tough time with his divorce and started singing random lyrics based on his emotions. He dont really know what the song is about himself. It was just based on his emotions at the time and how he felt.

This has nothing to do with some guy drowning or whatever your onna bout.

  • @CWluvaxxx i never new that

    thxs thxs

    XX XX

  • achully no the song is about a guy who killed his brother in a car crash and got away u know hit and run, he wrote this song and tracked down the guy and gave him concert tickets and sang the song looking at him the whole time and later the guy turned himself in.

  • @TheSmexykatie omg look at these words in the video "Drowning" NOT CAR CRASH IDIOT

  • @Boyfan123 well im sorry if i know something u dont from a very very good source but hey not every one can be right lmfao IDIOT

  • @TheSmexykatie u obviously don't know what this song is about, And the only person that CAN'T be right is YOU, So go off and do all of us a favor,

  • @CWluvaxxx The song is actually about the anger he felt after divorcing his first wife Andrea in 1979. He says, "I don't know what this song is about. When I was writing this I was going through a divorce. And the only thing I can say about it is that it's obviously in anger. It's the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation."
