We are talking age here. The Irish did wear the belted plaid. Like a sleeveless tunic to the knees with a belt.

You'll see a few bands wear a kilt with a saffron colour and that is the most original one, really. Cuz it is the hue of piss, which is what was used as a colour fastener.

I am from Ireland and all my life have seen Irish wearing kilts on St Patricks day as the parades are ceremonial. I put it to you that you are the ingnorant one here. Not entirely true, most nations of the celtics wore some form of kilt, perhaps not tartan in Ireland or Wales but still kilts none-the-less. Wearing kilts with a more modern Welsh or Irish tartan is completely proper, and encouraged if you have that ancestry. The kilts pre-dated trousers, so don't be so quick to judge, what you truly don't know about.
