McLean Stevenson was good in two areas: Game shows and talk shows. Commercials was his only way to making money after his failures of a solo sitcom career. Had the McLean Stevenson Show been a daytime talk show, he would have made a comeback. He was a natural in game shows and talk shows. But had the McLean Stevenson show been a talk show, he would have succeeded and perhaps be alive today. God rest his soul.
No surprises here - McLean joined NBC at one of the worst possible times in network history. This show was shot down in a sea of low ratings after just four months.
No surprise that Mac Ferguson was a grandfather. McLean was 47 at the time and there are quite a few grandpas (and grandmas) at that age.
Thanks for posting..I did like the theme song (because of Paul Williams)...I remember at the time thinking that the "mother" character was a lame ripoff of Mother Dexter on Phyllis. This show was terrible.
after this show, I'll bet McLean was WISHING he went down in a plane crash. what apiece of shit. didn't the guy read the script before he agreed to do the show? no fucking way anyone thought this show would be a hit
@palmercomm - That explains how Monty established a working relationship w/Mac and got his daughter, Joanna Gleason, as part of the cast of Mac's later series, Hello Larry.
@richardnixonisgod I felt bad too,but McLean did leave M*A*S*H on his own accord to pursue a solo career that never quite panned out,as you well know.
The name of the show was "The Little People", but it was Brian Keith that starred in it not Maclean Stevenson. He played a pediatrician whose daughter joins his practice & they invariably clash
This show was great! The whole cast was great! I remember seeing this when I was a teenager. The opening and closing theme are just fantastic! It is too bad that this did not last longer. Do you still have part two? Do you have any other episodes to post or know where I could find any? Would love to see all of the 13 episodes. Thanks so much for posting!!
McLean Stevenson guest starred on America 2Night with the naturally lobotomized Martin Mull (Mull admitted in a 1978 interview to never yelling in reallife). Weird experience for Stevenson to work with him!
That sailor comment about the dog sounds like something he would have said on M*A*S*H.

McLean left MASH for this?! To paraphrase Comic Book Guy from the Simpsons, "Worst...career move...ever!".

C'mon. A show about a son's friend in the kitchen? This is utter, utter crap. This must have aired for the vodka and valium crowd back in the 1970s.

McLean Stevenson was great actor on M*A*S*H. I feel bad that he completely blew his career on this crap.

@richardnixonisgod McLean actually chose to leave MASH. He thought his star was rising and that he could do better. The same with Trapper John.

Does anyone remember the name of the show that had McClean Stevenson in Hawaii with a bunch of kids?
