I have watched this over and over,I'm all for clean air,..peace... mung beans enviromental conscience and such but to be hurled of the flight deck of an aircraft carrier in what seems less than 120ft and reach a velocity(does somebody know?)that can sustain a 20ton hunk of metal with wings in continuous flight must such a kick in the arse..................
- I got a bunch, Mark Kurcher, that does this everyday. He flyes the super hornet, single seater. Always has been my inspiration. I get videos like this every month from him and it never ceases to amaze me. Under 200 feet up going 2X the speed of sounds. THUMBS UP FOR PEOPLE WITH BALLS oh that sounds dirty ;)
For all the fighter-pilot wannabes out there, here's a dose of reality: If you want to be one of these guys, you had better already be one of the biggest overachievers in your high school or college. That means you've got a 3.6 GPA or above with all Honors and AP classes, you play at least two varsity sports and are involved with multiple school activities. You are also fiercely competitive and set unbelievably high standards for yourself. If this isn't you, you aren't a fighter pilot.
this is an incorrect statement...in order to be considered for a fighter slot, it has nothing to do with performance in college. initial pilot training candidates in all armed services are selected out of OCS, ROTC and the academies. Once you have been awarded a pilot slot (GPA's in college ranging from 2.5-40), you and everyone else are in the same group, and your performance in flight school determine what type and category of aircraft you get. Fighter slots are selected out of API.
I wish it was easy as you say. Oh, I graduated at Delta Connection Academy, we didn't have ROTC. Most guys who came out of of college with anything less than a gpa of 3.6 were not even considered. They even denied a senator's son because he was in poor physical shape. They're very picky, especially the Navy. You have to be a super brain and a super athlete to get into AOCS.
@Swede7777 You can't just do this straight out of high school. To fly you must be an officer, which means you either go through the US Naval Academy or Navy ROTC. Not to mention that the chances of flying Naval Aviation (especially fighters) is nearly impossible. I think it's like 1 in 2 million people get to fly fighters for the Navy.
@JManGuitar5150 I know that. You think that I haven't looked into this stuff? I'm going to try to get an ROTC scholarship. I have good grades as a junior in high school, I'm in JROTC and the Civil Air Patrol, and scored high on the ASVAB (not that it really helps with the scholarship). I've been wanting to do this for a long time, and I have a huge interest in aviation, so this is something I'm following through with.
@JManGuitar5150 1 in 2million people fly fighters theres not that many people in the entire US military. stats your pulling out of your ass doesnt do much. It's true that chances are slim, but it doesn't mean its impossible. If you manage to get in an ROTC unit and stand out in your particular unit regardless of your major then youll have a good chance on getting your first choice on the community you select.
@Swede7777 probably going to want to go to college and get a degree first sense only 4% of the air force are pilots so your going to want to be a officer first lol
@ALECinHD No,no no,he wants Navy, their pilots are the best,,and don't call me wanna be,cause I'm gonna be one, currently in cadets, that helps people to prepare for the military you know...
@ArcticCatsRape I think it's fair to say that Swede7777 was inferring that in his pursuit of flying fighters after high school, that he'd be doing by attending a military academy or by going through ROTC at a college or university. Good luck, Swede...and keep dreamin' big!
@Swede7777 look dude, ima tell you what i tell everyone else, and this is coming from someone actually training to fly fighters and not some wanna be douche. It takes a very special kinda person to fly jets, and the recruitment process is by far the hardest, you have to contend with a whole country. When i did my selection it was 1 in 2000 made it to training and most of them were post-grads that did flying schools and had their liscences etc.
@antzz1077 And Don't forget that "Quality Spread..." Where the Smartest Engineering Major, and someone that consistently ranked in the top of their class, gets stuck flying C-130's, while the "History" Major who finished 25 out of 30 gets to fly 18's.... I have met and mentored them all...
get ur 4 year bachelors and join the navy, marines, or air force. then become an officer and ask for a pilot slot. its not easy but if its what u really want then go after it. my bro flies the F/A-18 super hornet in the marines.
naw....... it's not too late, the cut off age is 27 for the marines. im 25 too . im submittting the paperwork packet by dec caus i graduate may next year
Hope you got Perfect eyesight and Good math Skills or they wont even consider you for the job. But if you do good luck. I wanted to be a pilot but I had bad eyes.
