This reminds me of the likewise shopping mall in Oyama Tokyo!
Great ambiance and a thrill for small town guy like me to see this type of mall. I remember the constant presence of sound, trying to catch the attention of prospect costumers. And here it is fair game to be loud, in contrast to places where you are supposed to be calm and quiet and not "invade" on others "private space" (ex train and such).
It was hard to get used to this cacophony, but that's the way it is! :)
I think it's great that the Japanese were able to preserve these neighborhood shopping areas, rather than building a big shopping mall and driving all these small stores out of business (although they do have their share of megamalls, mostly out in the suburbs).
how would one go about purchasing a car in japan? and do they have certain rules or things you need to follow for a specific type of car for example like a sports car, truck, suv? or is it all the same?
Yoshi- we have a place like that in my town with a parking lot in front, and one row of stores across the parking lot and yet --we call it a Mall here in Canada ! lol
i see this alot in japan (i here alot of amaricans call it a mall with a dive threw) but theres alot of these types of malls around its mainly for the persons conveniance they dont have to carry all of there stuff out to the car they just go to a store and get what they need and then be on there way
I just got back from japan last night, I went to several of these, sometimes in English these are referred to as "shopping arcades", but they aren't really common at all in America. You should go back at night, as they're full of japanese buskers and other street performers.
lol its not a mall its called a shotengai like in kanji is 100 store and then street so basically its a street with many stores while a mall will be a BUILDING with many stores
DAMN!! i want to go shopping in any mall in Japan...and buy those shiny puffy jackets.....but i dont know if i can pull it off if i wear it in canada.
That person in the White car, (Nissan Silvia S15) Must of been either an amateur drifter or a Wangan street racer. Usually you don't see typical Japanese people driving around in tuned up car like that. The tuning/drift scene in Japan is wonderful, something I'd definitely take advantage of checking out in Japan.. A must..
I would give 5* as well. I shopped alot at Kawaramachi in kyoto very similar to this shopping place but much bussier ,, honestly never seen a Car driving inside the shopping strip...!!! weird is right
There was a story about a fire at the "Blues Brothers" mall in July 2009. Here's a snip:
The long-closed mall has .. decayed....In 2006, city officials touted the revitalization of the 57-acre mall after it was sold to Chicago developer John Deneen.
Those dreams came to a halt when, according to what authorities said..Deneen was arrested & indicted on charges that he & an alleged accomplice went to the office of one of his creditors with brass knuckles, shotgun and a .22-handgunwith a silencer.
i would be nervous all the time at a mall if i knew someone could just drive through it. plus arent japanese cars like really quiet? i couldnt tell in the vid, how loud was that car in there?
A very fine fight to look at, wouldnt you agree? You cant say no, considering your video about 'What i like in Japan'. You sure do like your waterparks ;) Nice video!
LOL, reminds me of The Blues Brothers movie. They drove through a mall too. Wish I could go shopping there. I saw a toy store there too. You'll find me in there.
i want... that nissan silvia S15.... i want it.... but damn... driving in a mall... you don't see that everyday... i can't imagine that happening in new york haha
I will never understand why Nissan never sent the S15 to the US (or why we got the KA instead of SR in the S13 and 14) such a gorgeous car

There isnt even room to drive a vehicle around in most malls.
