This stuff was invented by former Yankee pitcher Jim Bouton ("Ball Four"). There was a comment further down the page that asked if former big league stars Will Clark and Wade Boggs appeared in this ad. If it was from 1981, it may have been Boggs, but I believe Clark was still in high school at that time (he's younger than me, and I was 21 in 1981). They may have been just actors with a little bit of college or minor league baseball experience.

One time, I went to eBay looking for some food memorabilia, I came across an unopened bag of Big League Chew, and it was not the fresh one this seller was auctioning, but the very bag that was from... 1982, gum and all!
