I was at this show. It was 2001, so it was shortly after 9-11. I felt this was her exorcising the patriarchal regime of the taliban over women. This was so powerful live.

Finally I must say she has great talent to deform and cripple songs that much, so you don´t can identify them. Well, it dont want to spam on this video. I like Slayer and Raining blood is one of my favorites songs from them. Tori Amos has the balls to grab this song and twisted in an totally different version, simply amazing. I heard Kerry King and Tom Araya liked this version so much that they send Tori some Slayer Tshirts! :) A true artist doing a cover is not to copy it, its make a version of its own and Tori did it, sorry if the slayer fans cant accept it.

In trying to find the performance I attended during this tour, I found this one. You HAD to be there. This song was one of the highlights for me that night. It crept all over my skin and I could almost swear I wasn't breathing for those 6 minutes.

lol some people are terrible at life. Kerry King himself said it was fine to do it and said that it took him about a minute and a half to figure out where she's at, and he's right. When I first listened to it it was around a minute thirty that it clicked.
Do you guys not realize that Slayer had to approve this cover if Tori wanted to release it on a CD? Obviously they liked it or else they wouldn't have approved it. So, quit it. Tori brings a new light to this song; it's incredibly dark. What all you haters don't realize is that a cover is an interpretation of the song done by the artist who chose to cover it. You're supposed to make it your own. And she obviously did that.
She's really gutsy as an artist and not many would take on the covers she does. As for this choice the lyrics are intense and deeply emotional and she plays that spiritual conflict up really well. Slayer does it boldness and anger, Tori takes it with sadness and reservation for accepting that dark inevitability, and burden that it will carry.

Slayer didn't have a problem with Tori Amos doing this song on a concept album she created, covering songs by males in a female perspective. It is not disrespectful towards the authors when you receive permission AND make it your own interpretation. I am a metalhead as well (and listen to Tori Amos) and I can understand if you don't like it but you should at least respect the art put into this music. It's not ignorance, it's closed-minded.
Well, Slayer are selling themselves on a large scale, so I don't think the permission is that much granted (personally).
I am all for covers being made that are not complete copies from the originals but this is just a bridge too far. As I mentioned before, the essence from the original is totally vaporised. Yes, the cover IS somewhat scary/moody/haunting, but it doesn't capture the concept of the song. I do respect the courage to take this song to a whole other level, but she failed 100%.
first of all, they even commented on the song so, yes, they did grant permission. The only way you fail at a cover is when you try to make it the same and fail miserably. The fact she interpreted the song on such a different level to the point it seems like a new song is actually an example of a very well done cover. You don't have to appreciate this version as much as the original, but at least respect it.
Them commenting on the song only results in more sales, remember the music industry is a very very hard bussiness environment. I'm willing to believe they gave their approval but I refuse to acknowledge the fact that Amos made a very well done cover, the essence and beliefs of the song are totally gone.
And, as I mentioned before, I do respect the effort but I will blaspheme this version perpetually.

Do you guys not realize that Slayer had to approve this cover if Tori wanted to release it on a CD? Obviously they liked it or else they wouldn't have approved it. So, quit it. Tori brings a new light to this song; it's incredibly dark. I respect her immensely and just because I don't like Slayer's version, I don't feel the need to act like a two year old and shit all over their music.

She's really gutsy as an artist and not many would take on the covers she does. As for this choice the lyrics are intense and deeply emotional and she plays that spiritual conflict up really well. Slayer does it boldness and anger, Tori takes it with sadness and reservation for accepting that dark inevitability, and burden that it will carry.

Slayer's music cannot be transended without the skills and mentality needed to give true meaning to their songs

Slayer didn't have a problem with Tori Amos doing this song on a concept album she created, covering songs by males in a female perspective. It is not disrespectful towards the authors when you receive permission AND make it your own interpretation. I am a metalhead as well (and listen to Tori Amos) and I can understand if you don't like it but you should at least respect the art put into this music. It's not ignorance, it's closed-minded.

Well, Slayer are selling themselves on a large scale, so I don't think the permission is that much granted (personally).
I am all for covers being made that are not complete copies from the originals but this is just a bridge too far. As I mentioned before, the essence from the original is totally vaporised. Yes, the cover IS somewhat scary/moody/haunting, but it doesn't capture the concept of the song. I do respect the courage to take this song to a whole other level, but she failed 100%.

first of all, they even commented on the song so, yes, they did grant permission. The only way you fail at a cover is when you try to make it the same and fail miserably. The fact she interpreted the song on such a different level to the point it seems like a new song is actually an example of a very well done cover. You don't have to appreciate this version as much as the original, but at least respect it.

Them commenting on the song only results in more sales, remember the music industry is a very very hard bussiness environment. I'm willing to believe they gave their approval but I refuse to acknowledge the fact that Amos made a very well done cover, the essence and beliefs of the song are totally gone.
And, as I mentioned before, I do respect the effort but I will blaspheme this version perpetually.
At least respect my freedom of thought and speech, even if you totally disagree.

This actually sounds like music, with melody and such.
Slayer has some bad-ass guitar, I'll give them that. But I can't understand what the fucking guy is saying all through the song; what's the point of having lyrics if their indecipherable? (Not that Tori doesn't have that issue from time to time.)

oh im not argueing that the lyrics are bad...in fact they are anthem-like and pretty cool, it suits the music. but i really dont see how someone isnt interested in a genre but still be able to feel the music. in all honesty, the lyrics and what tori did to them totally ruined it in my opinion. so on that basis alone i would truthfully say that she didnt feel the music. im not saying it should have been thrash, but not THIS!
