@namirdu13 I work outside year round as a gardener for the Parks Dept. and often I wear just a t-shirt on a winter day. Many people do here, lol. Shorts too

@sandrateager I'll tell you why, because our island is very mountainous and hilly. Lots of valleys too. Any of the areas closest to the ocean are very mild in the winter and as you move father away the winter temps. get colder. In the summer opposite, slightly cooler near the ocean and very warm away from it. Higher elevations will get snow and our main town will be rain. Never a dull weather moment on Salt Spring Island, lol
yes in short distances there could be a big difference like my garden about 10 days ago the night temp. was -7 C (night) but 2 km. away the official weatherstation temp. in the open field behind the dunes was a chilling -13 C, i'm happy since 6 days it's not freezing any more that's how i like winters, anyway the climate overthere where you're living is fine!
@kutubu1 It is amazing how much the temperatures can change over such a short distance. Topography plays a very big roll in our island climate. It is very mountainous and hilly here.

Is that a weather thermometer or one you bend over and touch your toes thermometer lol. Never seen one like that one, where those homeless people you were talking too or just grungy hippies ?
It is cold here probaby just over 1 celcius I don't like this cold weather the roads are covered in black ice, things thaw out then a hour later is re-freezes.
@Graveltrucker That is a weather thermometer, I have several. In Celcius & F. I guess you could call those folks Homeless/boat people. They live on a boat, but they don't work.
@MrFrozenCanuck You got my location beat today. I am sitting at 1C. under clear blue sky. However there are other areas on our island that are sitting at 7 and 8 C. currently. Unfortunately I can't afford to live in those areas, lol
