It's about Republicans trying to get unions out of their way, because union workers know how to organize the people, and almost always vote for Democrats. That's it. WI is limited to options like raising taxes or having the people decide what happens to the unions. Dems don't like those kinds of choices, but they know that's what the people and Republican majorities will try to go for. It's like they're saying "I'm not gonna show up until you gimmie what I want!"

@365ral What you fail to see is that the representatives have shown up for work. They are using the WI state laws to block the vote, in Washington the Republicans used the filibuster, in WI the state law says that there have to be 20 members present for a vote to take place.

So although you may not agree with their strategy they are doing what the people want, as can be noted by the number of protesters.

@DocRocz That's the point. Republicans HAVE been showing up at the offices; the Democrats have fled to other states, and said they could be gone for days or weeks. They're no more honest than the teachers who lied about calling in sick so they could protest! The Republicans want a vote on the bill, but if the Dems don't show up, they look like cowards, hiding to avoid losing their political power.

@365ral You miss the point the failure on their part is a political strategy which keeps the vote that they will loose from happening. If they aren't there the vote can't take place. No vote no bill passage.

Lets face it if this was strictly about the money for the additional amount of money they are asking the teachers to pay it would be a done deal, the real issue here is that the Governor is trying to break the union and I feel he may have gotten more than he bargained for.

@DocRocz The governor never said he was against unions or teachers. He's trying to find ways to cut spending to get WI out of its already huge debt. Raising taxes is very unpopular, but since unions end up costing a lot of money as well, it would save money if union dues were more affordable. The Dems have taken another chance to make Reps look like they hate the middle class so they can try to get back into power.

If you look at the action to take away the works bargaining power that has nothing to do with the budget. What it does do is open up the door to have WI wind up as a right to work state like Arizona. The Dems don't have to try to make the Reps look like they are taking advantage of the middle class they do fine on their own.

If you took the time to watch the video I suggested you would have heard one of the protesters own words that they don't have an issue with paying more for their benefits, which is what I have stated.

I only support 3 of the teachers in my school (that i know), there was a scheduled walkout that i missed. The school threatened with an amazing unexcused absence for people who left, any sports players will not be able to do sports anymore, so the sports players sat in a big circle in the hall and refused to go to class, eventually leaving due to the school's threats.

I don't even really know what this bill is for, all i know is people are going to get less money if it gets passed.
