The event has grown over the past 50 years to the "WORLD'S LARGEST RATTLESNAKE ROUND-UP" with over 123 tons of Western Diamondback Rattlesnakes turned in to date.
okay, it i pure fucking science, its the food chain, and if we didnt do this that than there probobly be a reduction of other small animals for the so the other organisms would die of starvation, so if we didnt do this, the snakes would die of starvation anyway and other animal along with them
ok look shut the fuck up and who ever the dip shit is that said they are all dead bull shit they are not i live in sweetwater and yes a majority of them are killed but they alwayscome back stronger thats why this has been a traditon for the last 40 sumthin years so quit yalls fucking crying and the dude who called us redneck piss off u would prolly get ur ass kicked if u came here
When ever I se a fre kitten sign I go and tell them "Ill take em all". My pet boa "jenny" loves em and they are free food for her. She will go an extra couple of days more between feedings and its alot cheaper than buying hamsters and rats and such. And let me tell ya its a whole lot of fun to watch!!
i live in sweetwater and i go there every year, they dont kill the, they only kill like 20, those are all alive, by the way sweetwaters rattlesnake roundup is the biggest in the entire world
lol you have never been to texas if you say that us killing rattlers is bad for the ecosystem no matter how many you kill there will be more and more sweetwater is 1 county that the snakes come we have been doing this for years and still no shortage of snakes by the way ive seen 20-30 snakes come out of 1 hole. all you people who dont know anything about it just shut up you make yourself look stupid talking about something you know nothing about!!!!!!!!!
Several species could become extinct just as we are beginning to understand their ecological importance.Rattlesnakes are important to their ecosystems. They prey on rodents, keeping the populations naturally in check so that the rodents do not cause crop damage or spread disease. Four species commonly found in roundups are the eastern & western diamondback rattlesnake, timber rattlesnake, and the prairie rattlesnake. The timber rattlesnake is listed as endangered or threatened in several states.
Reptiles are disappearing very rapidity from over development, and people like this. People need to start respecting native reptiles. People break the law by destroying land where rattlers live and pull them out. If you ask me, these people are ignorant and need to educate them selves. I don't support round up sponsors! Cruelty to animals!!!
To many more seasons like that and there will be no rattlesnakes left to hunt. I wish I had diamondbacks where I live and its to bad so many die because of stupid people.
Im a hunter but I also beleive in conservation so there will be more to hunt. Dont tell me this doesnt do population damage these events need to stop.
I doubt there is an overpopulation in the Sweetwater area, unless having more than 1 rattler is overpopulation. When you kill all the rattlesnakes there & need to search farther away, earlier in the year to find them, then you will be wondering why you have Hantavirus and Bubonic Plague. The very nature of the roundups is akin to Barcelona bullfights & Phillipines cockfighting. It is cruel. Snakes feel pain, their brains are still alive & functioning an hour after decapitation.
They were all dead. 120 tons of snakes were killed, it's horrible how many are slaughtered just for such an event. The animals can't replishinish fast enough.

How in the world is this still allowed?
If one is going to kill snakes, it should not be by these barbaric methods.

How about catch 'em in Texas and release 'em in Cal?

Good Lord I hate tree huggers. Texas should start a tree hugger round up where we go to annoying places like California and gather up hippies.
