I get chills every time I hear this arrangement. It is so very moving in the simplicity of it. It reminds me that Jesus came to us as a carpenter's son born to a virgin. On my roughest days, I always remember that God has me in the palm of his hand and that one day I will sit with Jesus. Then I know everything will be alright! :)
Hi I'm glad to hear that this hymn gave you peace in your heart! Like you said Jesus Christ was born of virgin Mary but He was never referred to as Joseph's (carpenter) son in the Bible ("as the power of the Highest overshadowed Mary... therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" Luke 1:35)
It's interesting that (I never knew this before I read the Authorized King James Version) the only people who called Jesus carpenter's son are those who were offended in him.
"Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us Whence the hath this man all these things And they were offended in him...". (Matt 13:55)
So Even better than Jesus Christ being born to Mary and Joseph He will be coming as KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OR LORDS! "his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they bruned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters." (Rev 1:14-15) Isn't that exciting? :) I can't wait to see Him in the air! btw Jesus always called Mary 'woman' instead of mother ! :)
This song is one of my favorites. Some times my life is pretty much a nightmare, and more then sometimes im a compleat jerk. But when I take a step back, and look at my life how it really is, the only thing i can hold onto is the truths in this song. Blessed assurance, Jeus is MINE!
I just love this arrangement! Is there sheet music available somewhere for this piano/violin arrangement? This inspired my friend and me to sing this song in church this morning, acapella. Next time, we want to sing with accompaniment.
