MT, thank you for putting this up. At the time we missed the first one and in those days you didn't get to see it again until the next year until reruns so this is a first for me!! :) The one thing from the beginning that I never got was that he was supposed to be handsome and debonair. No offense to Mr. York but he was anything but. That beautiful women like these would go after him I just don't get. I am sorry to hear of the manner of his death. I remember feeling sad when he was replaced.
Such a pleasure to find this - loved Bewitched as a child for years. The Comedy Channel considers "older" programming to be from the 1980's and 1990's and stopped showing true clasics like Bewitched. Always thought Elizabeth Montgomery was lovely.
...and Screen Gems claimed they initially couldn't film "BEWITCHED" in color because of the special effects {"too costly" for color filming, they claimed}. They wouldn't allow Sidney Sheldon to film the first season (1965-'66) of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" in color as well- and he OWNED the program! {Although he later claimed they- and NBC- believed it wouldn't be enough of a success to warrant color production}. All the networks began scheduling "wall-to-wall" color shows in prime-time in 1966.
Yes, and if Screen Gems hadn't been so cheap (as well as ABC), it would have been filmed in color from the start. ABC was only telecasting TWO color series on its prime-time schedule in the 1964-'65 season {"THE FLINTSTONES" and "JONNY QUEST", and an occasional "SUNDAY NIGHT MOVIE"}; they didn't have the technical or financial resources to air further color series than that. Even when they began to colorcast about 40% of prime-time in the fall of '65, they didn't do the same for "BEWITCHED"...
@msmithca1 - The wedding night negligee was intentional; Liz was six months pregnant and so the producers had to hide her baby bump. Also, if you notice, her hair color changes from blonde (honeymoon) to brownish (Sheila's party). It was filmed in reverse order.
Love this show, i grew up watching the reruns. Really great to see that a show you loved as a kid still holds up this well. Sure the special effects are really dated and so on but it doesn't ruin the show at all for me. And Elisabeth Montgomery is smoking hot :)
My dad's father, Samuel Stephens, WAS from Missouri! (see 8:35 in this video)
In the original, you can see the ashtray moving from side to side on the coffee table.
