But the end result is the same for her fans - namely, no new material. It's been 10 years - maybe even13 yrs if you go back to her last proper album. There could have been 5 or 6 new albums in that time. She's missed her prime with inactivity. She'll never get that back.

Writing & producing a classic hit song for Aretha Franklin (and directing the video), Carlos Santana, Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige and others. Her solo debut is the definitive album of the HipHop generation (the 'Songs In The Key Of Life' of the 90's). She's won 8 grammys and more awards, sold millions and had No. 1 records solo and as part of a group. She did all this by her mid 20's!

But she's not really done anything since - by her own choice. Which is a waste to us and the world. It would be like Lennon and McCartney packing it in after they wrote 'A Hard Day's Night'. That was her choice, and only she knows if it was the right thing for her. But to the fans - it's tragic.

Not many seem to want to inspire. Lauryn is in the company of artists like Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, etc....artists who actually CARED enough about that impact of the music they released. In the mid 80's Bill Withers left the industry when he saw the direction it was going in.

She could have set up her own label, or sold it through her website - or she could have even just given it away for free if she has so many hang-ups about 'the industry'. Basically, she only wants to release music she believes in - and nowadays, artists can absolutely do that. Musicians no longer need the 'corporate music industry' backing.

@RampanT77 Well I don't have any facts, but I remember hearing about an album that was rejected by her record company. This was shortly before her short-lived reunion with The Fugees. Its seems her blabel didn't think the material was commercial enough. That's the problem with being on a major label. Like I said I don't have any facts as to whether this is true or not. But word is MJ's first submission of Invincible in late 1999 was rejected by the same lable, so who knows.

@RampanT77 And I think she attempted to sell her music through her website. I remember her song and video 'Social Drugs' was offered on her website. I don't know what happened. Maybe it didn't get the response she had hoped for. It seems that she and her label were at odd with each other. 'Lose my self' was the last thing she officially released, on the Surf's Up soundtrack. My other concern is her voice. It sounds very strained and damaged in the footage of her live performances since 2006.
