@CelineK18 It's a silly little thing called "creative genius". At least the laugh track on THIS show was NATURAL! Shows these days using the same laugh track for every pun...
@bambino492 I have heard them and they are in fact hilarious. But due to his recent "comedies" not even getting a chuckle out of anyone, I made a joke about him
I would debate that it was made solely for kids - the Muppets had some pretty raunchy humor and references to pop culture that adults at the time would be more interested in than children. That's the great thing about the Muppets though, with them, family friendly doesn't mean "just for kids and adults can watch if they want to I guess".
@Vinya: plus, late head writer jerry juhl said it best that even kids enjoy quality just like anyone & the muppeteers themselves wanted a show everyone could enjoy (for that's how one could tell they loved their jobs) & they succeeded, with the muppet show's vaudeville style variety show acts, fraggle rock's collaboration between species & constant near-death brushes, & even sesame street using typical learning tools like letters & numbers in an engaging way
@meowbooks Well cheese this is what I get for commenting before the end of a video...Oh I know! The shows are free, but they ask people to donate to continue the show.
Wow, a guest on the Muppet show that I actually know! (Don't get me wrong, all the guests are great, but sometimes I feel like I'm living under a rock for all the common knowledge I have)
I actually laughed right out loud at the "Mary Louise and Friend" act. The Muppet Show was brilliant! Long live the Muppets! Bring back this wonderful program!
The only thing I don't like about the DVDs is that annoying Muppet Studios logo that shows up before every damn episode. It's very minute but kind of annoying because it so clearly doesn't belong.
It isn't canned laughter. The laughs you hear are the cast and crew laughing at steve's jokes. the whole thing was his idea. he just wanted to do a show for the muppet people, so they let him. this is why steve's so cool.
This one is sooo weird. weird that they had Steve Martin perform stand up to canned laughter aka - a smattering of the muppet cast. The grown up balloon part is great but the rest of it is really awkward and clunky for a guy who was so super famous at the time.
@BjornAbbahot They are old, the tickets are free and it`s within walking distance from their Old Folks Home! Pluss they HAVE TO! They are the Siskel & Ebert of The Muppet World so it`s their job!!!
Fun fact: there was no laugh track for this episode. The laughter you hear is that of the Muppeteers. I think the loudest laugh belongs to Richard Hunt according to Brian Henson.
Too bad that this show usually had the ITC logo at the beginning, I remember the opening with the ITC logo on it I might put this intro up on RetroJunk one day with the ITC logo on it.
I love that when most Muppet Show stars show up and Kermit says, "Hey everybody, it's [name]!" there is thunderous applause, but here, when Steve Martin shows, there's only a pattering of claps. Ha ha.
it's like steve martin was irritated in the beginning
