  • it's like steve martin was irritated in the beginning

  • I love how they cut the laugh track in this one and just let the actors and techs laughter on instead.

  • @CelineK18 It's a silly little thing called "creative genius". At least the laugh track on THIS show was NATURAL! Shows these days using the same laugh track for every pun...

  • @6repsol9

Yes, Kermit's Intro and the Opening Sequence where the sign lowers down with Gonzo in it

  • "Ahhh, I love that one! It's so cute!"

Oh Rowlf. That's just how I feel about YOU! :)

  • "I'll make balloon animals, but I won't blow them up" lol Steve makes me laugh ^^

  • I loved the muppets since I was little

  • So that episode was taken from the 2011 movie The Muppets

  • Audition? Oh, this is gonna be fuuuuun

  • It's fun to think of a human entertaining puppets. Like, isn;t it supposed to be the other way around? LOL :)

  • I agree with the old Muppets on the balcony, I also liked the Season 1 opening better. :(

    Great show though! Funny! xD

  • This episode was in The Muppets.

  • 06:10 boom mic!

  • This is my favorite Muppet Show episode

  • Green smoke :D

  • Steve martin banged my mom no wonder I'm so unfunny

  • todo lo que hace este tío es genial !!! todavia no me queda claro lo del banjo...

  • If Rowlf and Floyd are in the audience, who's providing fanfare for the auditions?

  • I wonder how many auditioneers passed.

  • Well,excuuuuuuuuuuussssseeeee meeeeeee!

  • It's hard to believe that Steve Martin was a comedian and actually got laughs

  • @nogoodsnookeroo why's that? have you heard any of his comedy albums??

  • @bambino492 I have heard them and they are in fact hilarious. But due to his recent "comedies" not even getting a chuckle out of anyone, I made a joke about him

  • @nogoodsnookeroo touche...

  • My kids (9 and 5) love the Muppet Show! They can be raised up right.

  • @Gavgoyle its a great show, made for kids and was great back when the smuttiest thing on TV was Solid Gold Dancers.

  • @mrFalconlem

I would debate that it was made solely for kids - the Muppets had some pretty raunchy humor and references to pop culture that adults at the time would be more interested in than children. That's the great thing about the Muppets though, with them, family friendly doesn't mean "just for kids and adults can watch if they want to I guess".

  • @Vinya: plus, late head writer jerry juhl said it best that even kids enjoy quality just like anyone & the muppeteers themselves wanted a show everyone could enjoy (for that's how one could tell they loved their jobs) & they succeeded, with the muppet show's vaudeville style variety show acts, fraggle rock's collaboration between species & constant near-death brushes, & even sesame street using typical learning tools like letters & numbers in an engaging way

  • Can you imagine this show being broadcast in the X-Factor or Strictly time slot now as it was back then?! Such a shame.

  • It makes me sad that kids these days will never know the greatness of this show!

  • @MrJtr75 oh hell yeah dude kids these days just dont understand values like in these shows

  • 4 people aren't as cool as Statler and Waldorf.

  • See I always fill up the balloons with words and if they pop they go "Gosh darn it!"

  • If the tickets are free how does the show make money?

  • @NaiTaiDai Well, it was an audition. I imagine they charge during the show. :D

  • @meowbooks Well cheese this is what I get for commenting before the end of a video...Oh I know! The shows are free, but they ask people to donate to continue the show.

  • @NaiTaiDai i think Kermit gives the tickets to Statler and Waldorf for free every show

  • Oh dear, I shall have to do that from now on.

    WELL EXCUUUUUSE ME !

  • RIP jim henson!!!

  • to 4 people...WELL EXCUSE ME !!!

  • That giant white balloon attacking Steve Martin reminds me of an old British TV show called The Prisoner

  • @julitig I was thinking the same thing.

  • how can any1 not love the muppet show? takes me back in a second to bein alittle girl & watching this every week with my daddy =^)

  • Two of the all-time greatest things ever to happen to comedy.

(Sighs) They just don't make comedy like they used to...

  • Wow, a guest on the Muppet show that I actually know! (Don't get me wrong, all the guests are great, but sometimes I feel like I'm living under a rock for all the common knowledge I have)

  • steve martin is by far one of the best comedians in the world

  • i grew up watching this show. innocent times. they don't make them like this any more.

  • I actually laughed right out loud at the "Mary Louise and Friend" act. The Muppet Show was brilliant! Long live the Muppets! Bring back this wonderful program!

  • The only thing I don't like about the DVDs is that annoying Muppet Studios logo that shows up before every damn episode. It's very minute but kind of annoying because it so clearly doesn't belong.

  • I never got to se these becuase i was born in the early 90's.

I'm glad i'm getting to see these now.

  • @FoxHero123

    AMEN

  • OMG is he thin :O

  • @MsBlackdeath13 of course, the natural size of people ... america is too fat these days.

  • Absolutely Genius.

  • Wow! Steve Martin really looks different then again, it has been over 30 years.

  • woohoo!!!

  • I'm still quite shocked how entertained I was by this show

  • cool

  • @BjornAbbahot

If they don't come what's the point in making them characters?? And where else would that kind of humor come in??

  • wow....34 yrs ago

  • ich liebe das intro der show

  • 8:43 AAAAHHHH!!!! It's Rover! He escaped from the island!

  • gonzo sounds wierd

  • @LOZmaster85RB Dave was still developing Gonzo's character back then. Gonzo still retained his nasally voice from last season now and then.

  • gosh darn it

  • What makes this episode fantastic is that the Muppet people had little idea who Steve Martin was at the time.

  • i love the muppets

  • who doesn't?

  • EH! STEVE!

  • R: Hey maybe we got lucky at last.

L: Ya mybe tonights show got canceled.

Kermit: um tonights show has been canceled. L: Have I died and gone to heaven!?

The best line of the show!

  • i love kermits mouth twitch at 1:38 lol

  • It isn't canned laughter. The laughs you hear are the cast and crew laughing at steve's jokes. the whole thing was his idea. he just wanted to do a show for the muppet people, so they let him. this is why steve's so cool.

  • This one is sooo weird. weird that they had Steve Martin perform stand up to canned laughter aka - a smattering of the muppet cast. The grown up balloon part is great but the rest of it is really awkward and clunky for a guy who was so super famous at the time.

  • 1:13 Green Smoke

  • It's like the Bong of Destiny!

  • this is frighteningly similar to the show "America's Got Talent"

  • The frightening thing is that that show doesn't have puppets.

  • Last thing that dies ist HOPE

  • If Statlor and Waldorf hate the show so much, why do they always come?!?

  • To make us viewers laugh with their constant supply of awesome. :D

  • @BjornAbbahot They are old, the tickets are free and it`s within walking distance from their Old Folks Home! Pluss they HAVE TO! They are the Siskel & Ebert of The Muppet World so it`s their job!!!

  • You know, I wonder how it would've been if Peter Sellers knew that Steve Martin would end up being the next Clouseau.

  • omfg its Steve Martin!!!

I LOVED him in "The Pink Panther"

    One of my favorite movies.

  • i love dis show an those disrespectful ole men on a balconey :)

  • Why didn't they let Mary Louise perfrom her number?

  • Watch the entire episode and you'll know!

  • *lol* I did by now Fozziemax... - You are right though... My question was answered... :)

  • I can't believe I still remember the opening number my child hood flashed before my eyes.

  • me too

  • Man I love the Muppet show.

  • I love this show! haha nothing will ever replace Piiiiiigggss Innnn Spaaaaace

  • never seen the Muppet Show before! Love the Muppets, but I just haven't seen their original show. thanks for posting!!

  • i don't think that's a real frog, that chef isn't Swedish either.

  • wow i cant believe how young steve martin looks

  • Well, as young as Steve Martin -can- look. I think he must have been born with grey hair.

  • HAHAHHA..so true

  • @Trinnztubefun There's video out there, and on youtube before his hair went grey.

  • @Trinnztubefun watch little shop of horrors. He's got black hair then :O

  • @notdavidman Little Shop was in the 80's, Muppet Show the 70's. Martin's been grey forever lol, he dyed it for Little Shop.

  • @kendrian haha, nice

  • I love the balloon ranch joke!

  • Fun fact: there was no laugh track for this episode. The laughter you hear is that of the Muppeteers. I think the loudest laugh belongs to Richard Hunt according to Brian Henson.

  • It's cool because that just shows you how much fun they all had in doing this show. :)

  • @jasobres i'm pretty sure that was for every episode

  • what year was this? it looks like sometime between 1987-1980

  • i was around 7 in 1980, wow almost 29 years ago! :D

  • i meant to write 1978-1980

  • if those two old dudes in the audience hate the muppet show where are they there?

  • i meant why are they there if they hate the show?

  • They just enjoy heckling :D

Hard for them to heckle if they go see something they like :P

  • steve was one of the czech bros with dan akaryod on snl

  • lol wild and crazy guys

  • So that's where Link got that catchphrase.

  • Thank you for posting these!

  • You get them from the balloon ranch where you steal them from the nests...

    Hahahahaha!!!

  • Balloon animals...see Parenthood... :D

  • Steve Martin always seems to be in strange situations.

  • Too bad that this show usually had the ITC logo at the beginning, I remember the opening with the ITC logo on it I might put this intro up on RetroJunk one day with the ITC logo on it.

  • Somehow, that ITC logo brings some bad memories...probably because bits and pieces of the show freaked me out as a wee one...

  • Holy shit: "Way down upon the Sewanee 'RIBBIT'"...

  • did the swedish chef say "Gorbachop-chop-chop"?

  • Dunno, the world at large didn't know who Gorby was back then but the writers were famous for digging up obscure puns...

  • This is pretty much the only episode in season 2 where we see the rats, and here just females.

  • THis has a classic pwn by Steve. XD

Though his bad dancing in the SNL sketch where he played the contradicting author on "Oprah" was legend.

  • Wow.... This is really old. Steve have some shade of color in his hair.

  • I love that when most Muppet Show stars show up and Kermit says, "Hey everybody, it's [name]!" there is thunderous applause, but here, when Steve Martin shows, there's only a pattering of claps. Ha ha.

  • that's just because they're combining the applause for Steve Martin and Kermit the Frog

  • Sorry.. this episode was canceled.

  • Can he make balloon animals?

  • şimdide sırada sıradaki gösteri :)):):)

  • Thanks for posting these Doc! The classic Muppet shows are great!
