Whenever I hear Marriott's electrifying vocals on this otherwise mediocre song, it brings a tear to my eye. I have tried to sing this song with his schtick, and it is extremely difficult. My dad used to play all the best of the 60's, he never regarded this but when I play guitar I try and hit my notes like this guy nowadays. Call it what you like, easily palletable too simplistic but this is a tune I want in my life, I say that with pride. I bellow this out when I'm driving now, especially the second verse.... There has been some amazing front men over the years, even to this date. But for me, Marriott was (is) the ultimate front man. Amazing voice. I think the small faces were better than the who and the rolling stones and in my opinion, were probably on a parr with the Beatles. R.I.P Steve.

Again Steve is so much better cooler and a much better singer and dancer than the obnoxious (at times) over- bloated throat-killer no subtleness ever (except on the whosellsout). Daltry has the worst voice in rock. Long live Neil Young, Graham Parker, John Lennon, Marshall Crenshaw, David Bowie, Phil Ochs, U O Nash Kato, Hell the ex-lead from Foreigner has a better voice. OK , overkill, but the who were so underrated in the 60s and now thye suck,. From Tommy on they suck squeezeboxes.

Sadly it was pop songs like this, brilliant though it was, that made Marriott particularly and the others, feel that their musical direction was being changed from their preference of playing blues and soul to the more commercial objectives of mass sales and screaming girls.

It was this that eventually persuaded Marriott to leave and join Blind Faith and the others to evolve into The Faces

Yep I agree with your comment. Marriott and the others hated that song.

The pop image and screaming girls contributed greatly to Marriott's departure but also their technical problems with reproducing the sound of their psychedelic stuff especially from Ogdens'. They had a long brake from touring after releasing Ogdens' and Steve lost his stage confidence. That's why he wanted Frampton in the band. But others didn't agree. So frustrated he left them and formed not Blind Faith but Humble Pie.

I dunno if the quote is accurate, could have been said in

spite years later. Steve Marriot QUIT the Small Faces, and thus was born Humble Pie. Rod Stewart was asked to join at the same time Ron Wood had been asked. Thus began the Faces. And when Rod looked like he was going to quit the Faces, Ronie Lane beat him to the punch, and went solo. Check out Ronnie Lane's Slim Chance "Done This One Before", and ode to Steve & Rod. It will kill ya.
