Someone knows where this was filmed? Would love to go there! I can see why this song did not succeed in the charts- its a bit of a macabre subject, noone likes hearing the words "She died" in a song. Also it's very sophisticated, avant-garde sounding. I personally LOVE it! It's a brilliant song. BUT this album was so experimental it scared off the teens. They had to have a complete rethink, ripped off the Culture Club blue-eyed soul thing that was all the rage, VOILA! 'True' was a hit album!
this is one of the greatest bands of all time. very classy , romantic, almost regal. its a shame that they dont come to the U.S. to tour, I would see them at every stop! Long live SPANDAU BALLET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOGAN88
Beautiful gothy video, and sultry vocals, but are they romantisizing suiside? If so, I protest! I had a friend who killed herself after breaking up with her boyfriend, definately not glamourous or romantic.
I'm playing devil's advocate: what if they are elderly and in constant physical pain? If they aren't elderly and in constant physical pain? Just asking.
I love this track. It's such perfection like a golden dream, it floats so beautifully.
Diamond album is just a complete jewel in ever respect.
Such a stunning video as well, I love the Earl 80s videos. Alwas so lavish and full of promise. PURE BRILLIANCE +
Though I am not to fond on their new single or the new take on these old tracks. Wish they would leave them alone and just record a whole new album if they want their newer sound...
OH MAN this guys talkin about ultravox... hahaha im only 19... but i grew up off uvox.. i love there glam stuff when they were like a cross between Glam/New Wave/Punk but yeah.. spandau ballet.. i got hooked on this song off slc punk.. the scene where bob socks out the mirror.. there playing this song in the background up untill he socks the mirror.. then it goes to adolescents ameoba...
I think this song is about a woman who loved like a love addict and self destructed. Seriously. These gentlemen were in their early 20s when they recorded these earlier songs of theirs. They were good boys who got married young and avoided the drug scene.
This is probably my favourite Spandau song, along with the whole "Diamond" album ... the sound much earthier compared to the slick, immaculate sound of "True" and "Parade".
"She Loved Like Diamond" is for me one of the landmarks of the genre dubbed "New Romantic" ... and honestly, how much further could anyone go than "She loved like diamond/and cut so hard she died" ...
Although I have trudged wearily along the path of love - I still have my SB boxed set of the 12"s' the cover of which was shot in Billingsgate Market.
I always hope to love like diamond - because I never want to compromise my heart.
Gary's line "an acid taste that laced her soul again" is monumental poetry in my opinion.
Brillant video

A passion course that leads to pain
An acid taste that laced her soul again
She loved like diamond
She loved like diamond
And cut so hard
She died

I love their outfits! Esp. Tony's black coat, a bit gothic/vampirish but oh so cool even in today's standard!

I have to say that most of Gary's lyrics were very poetic but that line always gets me. I also have that boxed set, and I will never give that up.
